Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 678: Chapter 677: The Final Battle

The Divine Palace Warriors had already soared into the sky outside Divine Celestial City. Before long, fifteen thousand Demon Palace Warriors also arrived, filling the heavens above.

The two armies faced each other from a distance. The Divine Palace Warriors and their five Commanders gazed at the menacing Demon Palace Warriors, a heavy look on each of their faces.

In less than half a year, the Divine Palace, which once far surpassed the Demon Palace in strength, had been reduced to this state. They could only make a last stand to defend Divine Celestial City, their power long since eclipsed by the Demon Palace.

In stark contrast to the Divine Palace Warriors, the Demon Palace Warriors were brimming with Battle Intent. The war of their forefathers was finally going to come to an end today.

Looking toward the Divine Palace’s side, Lin Yun didn’t see any sign of Qing Zhu or her companions. He found it strange. ’This is the final battle. Why wouldn’t Qing Zhu and the others be here?’

The five Commanders of the Divine Palace shared Lin Yun’s thoughts. The Grand Commander turned to the Fifth Commander beside him and asked, ”Where is Qing Zhu Commander?”

Hearing the Grand Commander’s question, the Fifth Commander replied with a grim expression, ”I don’t know. I’m afraid Qing Zhu Commander has already abandoned the Divine Palace.”

At these words, the Grand Commander’s expression turned grim. With Qing Zhu and her companions absent, the Divine Palace’s chances of victory grew even slimmer. He looked over at the Demon Palace’s side—at Lin Yun and the others, at their ten Commanders—and wondered how they could possibly fight a battle like this.

With no more words to waste, the Demon Palace’s Grand Commander looked toward the enemy and bellowed, ”Demon Palace Warriors! This is the final battle! End these hundreds of years of war! Kill!”

Hearing their Grand Commander’s roar, the Demon Palace Warriors charged toward the Divine Palace. Seeing this, the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace shouted back, ”Divine Palace Warriors, kill! Defend Divine Celestial City to the death!”

At the orders of the two Grand Commanders, the armies clashed. In terms of morale and momentum, it was clear that the Demon Palace’s side was far superior.

Qing Zhu and her companions hadn’t appeared. Lin Yun didn’t make a move, nor did the Monk, the Daoist, or Xi Zijin. Besides, in a situation like this, the Divine Palace was doomed to fail even without their intervention.

’Has Qing Zhu really given up?’ Even now, she still hadn’t shown herself. Lin Yun couldn’t help but wonder if she had truly abandoned them.

Watching the battle unfold, Lin Yun saw the Demon Palace’s ten Commanders surround the Divine Palace’s five. Of course, the four Demon Palace Commanders surrounding the Fourth and Fifth Commanders were merely putting on an act.

The two armies were locked in a bloody battle. The ”strongest battle team” was particularly dazzling. Though they numbered only eighty, each member had already slain several Divine Palace Warriors.

Just as they had boasted yesterday, today the ”strongest battle team” was a sharp dagger, plunging deep into the heart of the Divine Palace.

The great battle raged on. Lin Yun knew that if Qing Zhu didn’t appear, the outcome of this war was already sealed.

The battle had only just begun, but the Divine Palace Warriors were already in disarray. A fight like this was meaningless; the morale of the two armies was completely mismatched. The Divine Palace Warriors didn’t have a shred of Battle Intent left.

Just then, the Divine Palace’s Fourth and Fifth Commanders exchanged a look. The time was right. The Divine Palace Warriors had completely lost their will to fight. It was the perfect moment for the two of them to speak up.

Seeing them nod, the four Demon Palace Commanders who had been ”surrounding” them also ceased their attack. They flew up above the battlefield, and the Fourth Commander shouted to the assembled Divine Palace Warriors.

”Warriors of the Divine Palace, surrender! The outcome is already decided. Don’t make a needless sacrifice.”

The Grand Commander of the Divine Palace, who was in the thick of the fighting, heard this and bellowed in rage, ”Fourth Commander, what are you saying?!”

At this, both the Divine Palace Warriors and the Demon Palace Warriors paused. After the recent brutal clash, fewer than five thousand Divine Palace Warriors remained, while the Demon Palace still had more than thirteen thousand.

The Demon Palace’s Grand Commander and Second Commander, who had been attacking the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace, also stopped. The Grand Commander of the Divine Palace looked at the Fourth and Fifth Commanders, his face livid with rage as he yelled.

”What is the meaning of this? You two traitors! Have you defected to the Demon Palace?”

It wasn’t just the Grand Commander; the other two remaining Commanders of the Divine Palace also glared furiously at the Fourth and Fifth Commanders. After all the years the Divine Palace and Demon Palace had been at war, they couldn’t believe two of their own would defect.

Hearing the Grand Commander’s furious shout, the Fifth Commander replied with a forlorn expression, ”Grand Commander, we haven’t defected to the Demon Palace. We just don’t want to see so many of our brothers die for nothing.”

”Bullshit! The Warriors of my Divine Palace die in battle; they never surrender! You two are a disgrace to the Divine Palace!” The Grand Commander roared, completely ignoring the Fifth Commander’s words.

In his heart, the Grand Commander knew the Divine Palace was doomed to lose today, but he had never once considered surrender. The Divine Palace and the Demon Palace had been fighting for ages beyond counting. In his mind, a Warrior of the Divine Palace should rather die in battle than live on in groveling submission—let alone a Commander.

”Grand Commander, there is no chance of victory in this battle! Can’t you see that? Or do you just want to stand by and watch our brothers die, one by one, right in front of you?” the Fourth Commander called out.

Hearing the Fourth Commander’s words, the Grand Commander swept his gaze across the Divine Palace Warriors who were looking to him. What was once an army of tens of thousands had been whittled down to less than five thousand in just half a year.

In their eyes, the Grand Commander saw loss, dejection, fear, and despair.

Meeting the gazes of these Divine Palace Warriors, the Grand Commander’s heart ached. Of course he knew there was no hope of victory. To keep fighting would only lead to all of them being slaughtered.

In the Grand Commander’s heart, along with the sense of loss, there was also a deep-seated regret. Qing Zhu’s failure to appear for the final battle had already shown that she had abandoned the Divine Palace.

Before this battle began, if there was one thing that had given the Grand Commander hope, it was Qing Zhu.

The Grand Commander had come to deeply appreciate Qing Zhu’s methods and strength over the past six months. He believed that as long as she was present, the Divine Palace might still have a glimmer of hope for survival.

But when the great battle arrived, Qing Zhu didn’t appear. In that instant, the Grand Commander knew that all hope for the Divine Palace was lost. Its destruction was now a foregone conclusion.

He remained silent for a long time, his expression complex. As the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace, he had once been the most powerful person in this world, even stronger than the Grand Commander of the Demon Palace, because in those days, the Divine Palace was vastly more powerful.

Now, however, the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace looked upon his Warriors, who had completely lost their will to fight, and the desolation in his heart was beyond words.

Taking a deep breath, the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace finally addressed the surviving Divine Palace Warriors. ”I won’t force you. Anyone who wishes to surrender, throw down your Weapon. I trust that the Fourth and Fifth Commanders will be able to protect your lives.”
