Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 655: Chapter 654: A Bloody Holding Action

The two forces stood facing each other. Compared to the Divine Palace’s imposing army of ten thousand warriors, the Demon Palace Warriors behind Lin Yun looked utterly pathetic—a mere one hundred men.

From appearances alone, Lin Yun and his men were like a praying mantis trying to stop a chariot—a hundred men hoping to halt an army of ten thousand.

Looking toward Lin Yun, the four Divine Palace Commanders had never seen his face before. They only knew that the men behind him were from the Demon Palace.

”Men of the Demon Palace? Did you come here with so few numbers just to commit suicide?” the Ninth Commander of the Divine Palace asked contemptuously, looking at the hundred warriors.

As soon as the Ninth Commander finished speaking, the Eighth Commander beside him laughed with scorn. ”Have these people lost their minds? Daring to block our path with such a small force.”

Compared to the scornful Eighth and Ninth Commanders, the Second Commander seemed far more meticulous. His eyes were fixed intently on Lin Yun.

Lin Yun wasn’t wearing the uniform of the Demon Palace, but a set of green robes. Since he wasn’t in their attire, yet the Demon Palace Warriors followed him, his identity wasn’t difficult to deduce—he was one of the Descended Ones.

”You’re one of the Descended Ones?” the Second Commander asked in a heavy tone, his gaze locked on Lin Yun.

Lin Yun remained silent in the face of the Eighth and Ninth Commanders’ taunts. However, upon hearing the Second Commander’s question, he smiled faintly. ”It seems you’re a bit smarter than the others.”

The Divine Palace knew a little about the Demon Palace’s Descended Ones. Aside from two Demon Beasts, there were three men and one woman; one was bald, and another was a thin Daoist.

Seeing that Lin Yun was neither the bald man nor the thin Daoist, the Second Commander quickly deduced his identity. His expression grew wary as he asked in a heavy voice, ”You’re Lin Yun?”

Lin Yun didn’t try to hide his identity. He smiled and nodded. ”Gentlemen, I’m afraid none of you will be passing through here today.”

Realizing the young man in green robes before them was Lin Yun, killing intent flared from all four Commanders. Every Divine Palace Commander knew that Lin Yun was the backbone of the entire Demon Palace.

If they could kill Lin Yun, the Demon Palace would already be half-defeated. Its complete destruction would be just a matter of time.

’What is Lin Yun thinking, blocking our path with a mere hundred men?’ In the Second Commander’s mind, Lin Yun was anything but reckless. On the contrary, his every move was calculated.

Refusing to let his guard down, the Second Commander carefully scanned the surroundings for any movement, fearing that Lin Yun had laid an ambush.

”No need to be so suspicious. There’s no one else around,” Lin Yun said with a faint smile, noticing the Second Commander’s caution.

’What does he mean? Does he really intend to fight my ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors with only a hundred men?’ The Second Commander didn’t immediately give the order to attack. The Eighth Commander beside him, however, had already drawn his weapon and was sneering at Lin Yun.

”You had a clear path to survival but chose to barge into the gates of Hell. Lin Yun, since you’re asking to die, don’t blame us.”

With that, the Eighth Commander roared, ”Kill them!”

Immediately, the ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors, led by the Eighth Commander, charged toward Lin Yun and his group.

The relationship between the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace was like that of fire and water. Thus, from time immemorial, the word ”surrender” did not exist in the hearts of their warriors. Any encounter was destined to be a bloody battle.

The Eighth and Ninth Commanders led the charge. The Second and Third Commanders, however, held back. They were more experienced, and Lin Yun’s actions were too bizarre, filling them with suspicion.

’It made sense to be suspicious. Who would try to stop ten thousand men with only a hundred? It was tantamount to suicide—an impossible task.’

The Second and Third Commanders remained where they were, watching as the Eighth and Ninth Commanders led the ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors in a charge against Lin Yun’s group.

’Even now, they both felt Lin Yun had to have another card to play. It couldn’t possibly be just these hundred men.’

But they were clearly mistaken. Facing the assault from the Eighth and Ninth Commanders, Lin Yun, the hundred elite Demon Palace Warriors behind him, Little Ape, and the Black-striped Tiger showed no change in their expressions. They drew their Spirit Soldiers and threw themselves into a bloody battle against the Divine Palace Warriors.

With a furious roar, Little Ape instantly swelled to a height of ten meters. Facing an encirclement of dozens of Divine Palace Warriors, he showed no fear, his massive fists swinging relentlessly through the air.

Like Little Ape, Lin Yun found himself besieged by both the Eighth and Ninth Commanders. At the same time, no fewer than a hundred other Divine Palace Warriors joined in the attack, focusing all their efforts on him.

As the backbone of the Demon Palace, Lin Yun naturally received their ”special attention.”

Wielding the Demon Bone Heaven-Dominating Spear, every thrust from Lin Yun’s weapon injured or killed a Divine Palace Warrior. His Combat Power was astonishing, but the sheer number of Divine Palace forces was overwhelming. For a time, even Lin Yun found himself locked in a bitter struggle.

”Lin Yun, I have to admit, you really did come here just to die! Did you honestly think your hundred men could slaughter all ten thousand of our Divine Palace Warriors?” the Eighth Commander roared, slashing down at Lin Yun with his blade.

”How will we know if we don’t try?” Lin Yun replied calmly, facing the Eighth Commander’s taunt.

The battle raged on, yet the reinforcements the Second and Third Commanders had been expecting from Lin Yun never appeared. By now, they were almost certain there were no other Demon Palace forces nearby—only the hundred men before them.

However, despite having their suspicions confirmed, the expressions on the faces of the Second and Third Commanders were grim. The Combat Power of the hundred men Lin Yun led was simply too formidable.

Each Demon Palace Warrior was facing an assault from dozens of Divine Palace Warriors simultaneously. Yet, despite being so heavily outnumbered, not only were the hundred Demon Palace Warriors not instantly annihilated, but they were managing to cut down Divine Palace Warriors even while surrounded.

”These men... Since when did the Demon Palace have such a formidable squad?” the Third Commander murmured, his tone heavy.

Hearing this, the Second Commander’s expression also grew exceptionally grim. Lin Yun had only brought these hundred men, and though they were few, the Combat Power of each one was immense.

After a moment of contemplation, the Second Commander decided not to dwell on it. ”No matter,” he said to the Third Commander beside him. ”Let’s finish them off first. If we can kill Lin Yun here as well, it will be a monumental achievement. Let’s make our move.”

At the Second Commander’s words, the Third Commander nodded. The two of them immediately joined the fray. Now all four Commanders were besieging Lin Yun, while a hundred more Divine Palace Warriors relentlessly assaulted him.

The bloody battle in the sky raged, locked in a stalemate. The hundred black-clad Demon Palace Warriors each faced an onslaught from dozens, or even hundreds, of Divine Palace Warriors.

Surprisingly, however, this small band of a hundred Demon Palace Warriors showed not a hint of fear in the face of the overwhelming siege. On the contrary, they fought with ever-increasing ferocity, and Divine Palace Warriors fell one after another.
