Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 654: Chapter 653: Interception Location

Lin Yun and his group disappeared into the night. After a long moment, Xi Zijin was the first to speak. ”We need to start preparing as well. We can’t betray the trust Lin Yun has placed in us.”

With Lin Yun gone, Xi Zijin seemed to revert to her usual icy demeanor. Even the tone of her voice grew cold.

Hearing Xi Zijin’s words, everyone nodded. The Demon Palace Warriors had already gathered within the city. Now, only a thousand men were left to defend the Demon City and the other city, while eight of the Demon Palace’s Commanders had assembled here.

Using the cover of darkness, Lin Yun led the Demon Palace’s strongest team, racing eastward. At the same time, in the Divine Palace’s main camp a hundred miles outside the city, Qing Zhu stood in the central tent. She looked down at Wei Yunhang, Song Tianyang, and three Divine Palace Commanders and asked,

”Will it still take two days for them to arrive?”

Hearing Qing Zhu’s question, the Grand Commander of the Divine Palace stepped forward and replied respectfully, ”Qing Zhu Commander, with the Divine Palace’s massive offensive this time, we will surely be able to take down the Demon Palace in one fell swoop.”

Qing Zhu did not respond to the Grand Commander’s flattery. Just as Lin Yun had predicted, the reason Qing Zhu had yet to launch an attack was that she was waiting for another main force from the Divine Palace to arrive and rendezvous.

Once they arrived, Qing Zhu would have a combined force of twenty thousand Divine Palace Warriors. The Demon Palace’s force of just over ten thousand would stand no chance of stopping them.

”Keep a close eye on any and all movements within the Demon Palace. Report anything to me immediately,” she ordered the Grand Commander.

Hearing Qing Zhu’s command, the Grand Commander respectfully acknowledged it and withdrew from the main tent.

The three Divine Palace Commanders withdrew, as did Wei Yunhang and Song Tianyang. Now alone in the main tent, Qing Zhu walked to the head seat and sat down. A faint smile touched her lips as she muttered to herself,

’Lin Yun, it’s time we settled this. I’d like to see how you’ll face my twenty thousand Divine Palace Warriors.’

Qing Zhu still didn’t know—or perhaps, even if she did, she wouldn’t believe—that Lin Yun would actually dare to intercept a Divine Palace army of ten thousand with only one hundred Demon Palace Warriors.

On Qing Zhu’s side, Song Tianyang’s hatred for Lin Yun had reached its absolute peak. Having survived the ordeal and fully recovered from his injuries, Song Tianyang had carefully thought through the course of events.

Once he calmed down and considered it, it wasn’t hard to figure out that Lin Yun had arranged everything. He had been completely ensnared in Lin Yun’s scheme, and one could only imagine the depth of the hatred in his heart.

After leaving the main tent, Song Tianyang gazed in the direction of the Demon Palace’s cities. He knew Lin Yun was there right now. His killing intent was undisguised as he spoke in a cold, dark voice.

”Lin Yun, if I don’t kill you in this lifetime, I, Song Tianyang, swear I am not a man.”

Qing Zhu and her forces were still waiting for the two Divine Palace armies to rendezvous. However, they couldn’t possibly imagine that at this very moment, Lin Yun was already leading the Demon Palace’s strongest team on the road to intercept the Divine Palace army.

Under the cover of night, Lin Yun’s group quickly distanced themselves from the Demon Palace’s cities. They ran without rest, and just as the sky began to lighten, they reached the pre-selected ambush point.

The location was a hillside, which also happened to be a path the Divine Palace army had to take. Furthermore, the area was wide open, with nowhere for anyone to hide.

Honestly, such an open, spacious area was not an ideal place for an ambush. But one must not forget that upon reaching the Celestial Spirit Realm, a Martial Artist could already use Sky Control to fly and fight. Therefore, for Martial Artists at this level of Cultivation, the choice of ambush location was not crucial, as they could all fly.

Having arrived, Lin Yun hovered in the air, looking down at the open grassland below. He knew a bloody battle was about to break out here—a battle of one hundred against ten thousand.

”We need to hold back the Divine Palace army here for at least three days. They have ten thousand men, and we only have one hundred. Are you confident?” Looking at the open hillside below, Lin Yun asked calmly.

Upon hearing this, the Demon Palace Warriors replied in unison, ”Yes!”

Lin Yun and his men had reached the designated location in a single night. He estimated that the Divine Palace army would not arrive until sometime during the day.

Lin Yun had only brought one hundred Demon Palace Warriors, and their opponents were ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors. This numerical disparity meant that every single Demon Palace Warrior would have to face the combined assault of one hundred Divine Palace Warriors.

They waited quietly on the hillside. Meanwhile, the Divine Palace army that was rushing to rendezvous with Qing Zhu and her forces was already flying rapidly toward Lin Yun’s position.

This Divine Palace army was led by four Divine Palace Commanders: the Second Commander, the Third Commander, the Eighth Commander, and the Ninth Commander.

They had no idea that Lin Yun’s group was already prepared and waiting on their mandatory route. As they traveled, the four Divine Palace Commanders chatted leisurely.

”Second Commander, with Qing Zhu Commander gathering twenty thousand Divine Palace Warriors this time, I don’t think the Demon Palace stands a chance,” the Third Commander said with a laugh.

”That’s right. This time, our numbers are double the Demon Palace’s. Even if they throw everything they have at us, they won’t be able to stop us. Once we rendezvous with Qing Zhu Commander tomorrow, we can take down the Demon Palace in one go. When we break through the Demon City, I’m going to completely destroy their great hall,” the Ninth Commander chimed in.

Hearing their laughter, the Second Commander—the strongest of the four and their de facto leader—remained calm. He showed no signs of complacency despite their massive apparent advantage. He simply said coolly,

”We cannot let our guard down. That Descended One from the Demon Palace, Lin Yun, not only has high Combat Power but is also a meticulous schemer. Even if victory seems certain, we must not be careless. Remember, even a lion uses its full strength to hunt a rabbit.”

At the mention of Lin Yun’s name, the other three Commanders’ expressions turned serious. They had all heard of Lin Yun’s deeds and knew that even when he was captured by Qing Zhu, he had still managed to escape completely unscathed under those circumstances.

He had not only used a scheme to kill Lin Jianhong and destroy the great hall of Divine Celestial City, but had also successfully helped the Demon Palace capture another city.

Thinking of Lin Yun, the short-tempered Eighth Commander said, full of killing intent, ”Hmph. He destroyed the great hall of my Divine Celestial City. If I ever get my hands on Lin Yun, I’ll tear him to pieces and hang his head on the gates of Divine Celestial City.”

As they chatted idly, half a day passed, and the Divine Palace army arrived at the hillside where Lin Yun and his men were. From a distance, the four Divine Palace Commanders saw a hundred figures dressed in the black attire of the Demon Palace standing in the sky ahead. At this sight, the four Divine Palace Commanders simultaneously halted. The ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors behind them stopped as well.
