Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 658: Chapter 657: The Impossible

The Divine Palace army retreated. Lin Yun ordered his men to clean up the battlefield, tally the casualties, and recover the Spirit Soldiers from the fallen warriors.

At Lin Yun’s command, the Demon Palace Warriors sprang into action. The final count showed that fifteen Demon Palace Warriors had died in this battle, and almost everyone was injured.

Lin Yun led his men to a nearby hillside to rest and distributed his Healing Medicine among them.

The Divine Palace may have retreated for now, but Lin Yun knew they would surely charge again. His group had to hold this position for at least three days. This first battle was merely a warm-up.

”Heal as quickly as you can. The Divine Palace will likely attack again soon,” he told them. Hearing his words, everyone swallowed the Healing Elixirs Lin Yun had given them, sat down cross-legged, and began to heal.

Lin Yun swallowed a Healing Elixir as well, but he didn’t sit down to meditate. Thanks to his Flawless Flesh Body Third Layer, his self-healing abilities were monstrously powerful. Such minor injuries were of little concern to him.

The Black-striped Tiger and Little Ape were in the same state. Little Ape, in particular, had sustained numerous injuries during the battle, but he now seemed largely unaffected.

Lin Yun tossed two Top-grade Spirit Essence Pills to Little Ape and the Black-striped Tiger. His gaze swept over the hillside, which was densely covered with corpses. The bodies of the fallen Demon Palace Warriors had already been separated from the rest.

These were the Demon Palace’s strongest warriors, and Lin Yun refused to let their bodies be left exposed in the wilderness. Once the battle was over, he would bring them all home.

With fifteen dead, Lin Yun’s elite team was now down to eighty-five men. He had collected the Spirit Soldiers of the fallen, intending to let the Grand Commander select suitable replacements to join the elite force upon their return.

Gazing in the direction of the Divine Palace’s retreat, Lin Yun wasn’t worried they would try to detour around him. The surrounding hundred li was nothing but vast, open grassland with nowhere to hide. Therefore, if this Divine Palace contingent wanted to rendezvous with Qing Zhu, they had no choice but to break through his line of defense.

’The Grand Commander and the others should have started by now,’ Lin Yun muttered to himself, sitting alone on the grass. He had informed the Monk via a Communication Token long before the fighting began. ’The Grand Commander’s forces must be ready.’

Lin Yun was right. Upon receiving Lin Yun’s transmission, the Monk immediately sought out the Grand Commander. Lin Yun had successfully intercepted the approaching Divine Palace unit; it was now time for the Demon Palace’s main army to make its move.

With over ten thousand Demon Palace Warriors assembled, the Grand Commander and the other leaders decided to strike at nightfall. Their goal was to crush the Divine Palace contingent led by Qing Zhu outside the city as quickly as possible.

Having repelled the Divine Palace, Lin Yun’s group remained on the hillside, holding their ground. Meanwhile, the Second Commander’s retreating forces hadn’t gone far—they stopped a mere ten li away.

When the casualty report came in, the Second Commander was stunned by the numbers.

Against just one hundred Demon Palace Warriors, the Divine Palace had lost nearly a thousand lives, with over a thousand more wounded. Hearing these figures, the Second Commander fell silent for a long time, his expression turning exceedingly grim.

”Lin Yun is leading the Demon Palace’s elites to intercept us here. Are they trying to annihilate the Qing Zhu Commander’s forces?” the Second Commander asked gravely, looking at the Third and Eighth Commanders.

Hearing this, the Third and Eighth Commanders exchanged a look. It was indeed a real possibility. If Lin Yun only brought a hundred men, it meant the entire main force of the Demon Palace was free to gather elsewhere.

And with their full strength, it wasn’t impossible for them to annihilate the Divine Palace forces led by Qing Zhu.

At this thought, the expressions of all three Commanders turned grim. The hot-headed Eighth Commander shot to his feet and roared, ”To hell with it! Lin Yun only has a hundred men! We have over ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors! Are you telling me we can’t break through?”

Indeed, had it not been for the last battle, the Second Commander might have agreed. But after witnessing what had just happened, his own confidence had been shaken.

In the recent fight, the Second Commander had witnessed firsthand the immense Combat Power of those hundred Demon Palace Warriors.

The Second Commander didn’t reply. He glanced dispassionately at the demoralized Divine Palace Warriors, knowing that another charge right now would lead to catastrophic losses.

But now that he understood Lin Yun’s objective, he had to break through, no matter how devastating the cost. Otherwise, Qing Zhu would be in grave danger. Faced with the full might of the Demon Palace’s main army, the forces under Qing Zhu’s command would find it nearly impossible to hold out.

The location Lin Yun had chosen for his blockade offered no cover, making a detour impossible. This left the Second Commander with only one option: a frontal assault.

”Lin Yun, even if half of my ten thousand Divine Palace Warriors fall here, I will break through,” the Second Commander said coldly, his eyes turning sharp and merciless.

There was no other way. If they couldn’t break through, Qing Zhu would be in peril. With no room for hesitation, the Second Commander rose to his feet and roared to his Divine Palace Warriors.

”You are the bravest warriors of the Divine Palace! The enemy is a paltry hundred men! Can they truly stand in your way? Charge with me! We will raze the entire Demon Palace to the ground!”

Less than an hour later, Lin Yun saw the Divine Palace army charging again. He looked toward the horizon and saw a dense swarm of black dots—the Divine Palace Warriors.

Lin Yun rose and said calmly, ”Our guests have arrived. Let’s give them a proper welcome.”

At his words, the eighty-five surviving Demon Palace Warriors fell in behind Lin Yun, soaring into the sky to await the Divine Palace army’s approach.

Soon, the Second Commander led the Divine Palace army back to the hillside. Below them, nearly a thousand corpses lay silent on the ground.

”Lin Yun, you intend to hold us here so you can annihilate the Qing Zhu Commander’s forces, don’t you?” the Second Commander asked coldly, his eyes fixed on Lin Yun.

Hearing this, Lin Yun just chuckled. ”If you want a fight, you’ll get one. If you want to pass, you’ll have to get our permission first.”

Lin Yun’s attitude remained as defiant as ever. Hearing his response, the Second Commander’s face darkened. ”Kill them!” he roared.

At the Second Commander’s order, the Divine Palace Warriors surged toward Lin Yun and his men. From their expressions, however, it was clear their morale was low.

In contrast, the Demon Palace Warriors behind Lin Yun met the charge with arrogant smirks. In unison, they roared, ”Kill!”
