Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 671: Chapter 670: This is the Strongest Squad

Lin Yun paid no mind to the matter of the Monk and Daoist. It wasn’t that he was cold-blooded, but after what those two had done, he had no idea how he was supposed to face the Second Commander.

His own injuries had fully healed, and Xi Zijin had woken up as well. Aside from some lingering weakness, she was otherwise fine.

He checked on Xi Zijin in her room almost every day. After a few days of recuperation, she was able to get out of bed and walk.

He accompanied Xi Zijin to a stone bench in the courtyard. As they sat, Lin Yun said faintly, ”It’s been almost half a year since we came here. It’s time to bring things to a close.”

Hearing this, Xi Zijin replied softly and gave a slight nod.

He sat with Xi Zijin for a while longer, but he had other matters to attend to. After seeing her back to her room to rest, Lin Yun left the courtyard alone and headed for the Martial Arts Training Ground behind the Central Square.

Several days had passed. The Monk and Daoist had actually kept a low profile this time, no longer going out to womanize. They spent all day in their rooms focused on their Cultivation.

It was hard to say whether they were truly remorseful or just afraid of running into the Second Commander. Regardless, their change in behavior was a good thing.

When Lin Yun arrived at the Martial Arts Training Ground behind the Central Square, the Grand Commander and Second Commander were already present. Seeing that the Second Commander’s expression was normal, Lin Yun smiled and greeted him.

He was here today because the Grand Commander had selected seventy elite Demon Palace Warriors to replenish the ranks of the Strongest Squad.

Lin Yun had no objections. After leading the Strongest Squad through such a bloody battle against the Divine Palace, he had truly formed a bond with them.

At that moment, seventy elite Demon Palace Warriors stood in neat formation in the center of the Martial Arts Training Ground. Their Cultivation was also at the Limit of the Celestial Spirit Realm.

However, compared to the thirty members of the Strongest Squad who had survived the slaughter, these new recruits lacked a certain killing aura.

But that couldn’t be helped. That kind of presence could only be acquired by truly experiencing a bloody battle, by crawling out from a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood. It couldn’t be taught.

Nearby, the thirty members of the Strongest Squad were sitting lazily at the edge of the training ground, watching the seventy recruits and muttering amongst themselves.

He glanced at the seventy men the Grand Commander had chosen. ’Their Cultivation is sufficient,’ he thought, ’but I wonder about their Combat Power and temperament. Since this is the Strongest Squad, it naturally requires the strongest Warriors.’

”You want to join the Strongest Squad?” Lin Yun asked, looking at the recruits coolly.

Hearing this, the seventy men replied in unison, ”We do.”

After the last battle, even though only thirty of its members had survived, the Strongest Squad had become something of a legend among the Demon Palace Warriors.

In just a few short days, it had become the highest honor for any Warrior in the Demon Palace to be able to join the Strongest Squad.

”Very good. But since this is the Strongest Squad, only the strongest Warriors may join. I will now give you a trial,” Lin Yun said, his gaze sweeping over the seventy men.

With that, Lin Yun turned to the thirty men lounging at the side and barked an order. Hearing his command, the thirty members of the Strongest Squad, who had been lazing about just a moment ago, instantly assembled before him.

One squad of seventy, one of thirty. Yet, as they stood on the Martial Arts Training Ground, the difference between them was stark.

The thirty Warriors who had been through the bloody battle exuded a daunting pressure. Each one of them carried the subtle reek of slaughter and blood.

”If you want to join the Strongest Squad, you must prove your strength. Now, the seventy of you will face the thirty members of the Strongest Squad. Last for a quarter of an hour, and you pass,” Lin Yun stated calmly.

Hearing this, the seventy Demon Palace Warriors glanced at the thirty members of the Strongest Squad, a flicker of fear in their eyes. In contrast, the thirty veterans looked back at them with a hint of contempt.

After addressing the recruits, Lin Yun turned to the thirty members of the Strongest Squad. ”Don’t even think about going easy on them. Fight with your full strength. If I find anyone holding back, you can see yourself out of the Strongest Squad.”

These thirty members of the Strongest Squad treated Lin Yun with even more respect than they did the Grand Commander. In fact, Lin Yun was now the only person in the entire Demon Palace who could command them.

”Commander Lin Yun, if we fight with our full strength... what if we accidentally kill them...?” one of them asked. ℯℯ𝑙.

”Is ’fight with your full strength’ that hard to understand?” Lin Yun replied sternly.

With Lin Yun’s order, the air around the thirty members of the Strongest Squad changed in an instant. It was as if a slumbering tiger was slowly awakening. The killing intent and bloody stench emanating from each of them became utterly horrifying.

Before the trial even began, the seventy recruits were already losing their nerve in the face of the thirty veterans. A look of terror filled their eyes as they stared at them.

”Begin!” At Lin Yun’s bellow, the thirty members of the Strongest Squad instantly charged the seventy recruits, feral grins plastered on their faces.

The seventy Demon Palace Warriors facing them, however, had grim expressions.

But Lin Yun had said they only needed to last a quarter of an hour to pass. Some had their courage broken from the start, but more than half still chose to fight back.

The seventy men the Grand Commander had chosen were undoubtedly the finest Warriors in the Demon Palace. If not for the bloody battle, the gap between them and the thirty veterans wouldn’t have been so great.

The two groups clashed. In an instant, the seventy Demon Palace Warriors chosen by the Grand Commander were thrown into complete disarray in the very first exchange.

Of course, the thirty members of the Strongest Squad weren’t aiming to kill and deliberately avoided their opponents’ vitals. It was still excruciatingly painful, just not life-threatening.

Faced with the thirty veterans’ overwhelming killing intent, half of the seventy recruits simply lost their will to fight. A handful—about ten of them—didn’t even have the courage to raise a hand in defense.

Watching them, Lin Yun shook his head slightly. ’And they want to become members of the Strongest Squad.’

However, apart from those who had lost their nerve, there were still between ten and twenty men who were resisting with all their might. Even after being knocked down several times, this group would get back up and charge forward again.

A slight smile touched Lin Yun’s lips as he watched them. He didn’t require the Strongest Squad to have exactly one hundred members. Quality over quantity—that was his only rule.
