Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 669: Chapter 668: Killing Intent Soaring to the Heavens

The Grand Commander and his men spent the entire day clearing the battlefield. It was only at nightfall that they returned to the city of the Demon Palace.

The Monk had already informed Lin Yun of the great victory here via a Communication Token. Lin Yun had replied that he would be able to return to the city early the next morning.

That Lin Yun was safe was even better news. Upon hearing this, the people of the Demon Palace all thought, ’We must hold a grand welcoming ceremony for him tomorrow morning.’

After all, this great victory would have been impossible without Lin Yun and the strongest team. If they hadn’t intercepted the Second Commander’s forces, the Demon Palace would have likely been crushed.

Meanwhile, after several hours of recuperation, Lin Yun, Little Ape, Black-striped Tiger, and the thirty surviving Demon Palace Warriors had their injuries under control. Though they hadn’t fully recovered, they could move without a problem.

”Gather the bodies of our fallen brothers,” Lin Yun said, getting to his feet and looking at the thirty Demon Palace Warriors before him.

At Lin Yun’s command, they quickly unearthed the bodies of their seventy fallen comrades from the mountain of corpses. Seventy Demon Palace Warriors, all dead.

Looking at the seventy corpses, it was hard to imagine that just a day ago, these men had been so full of life. Now, after a single battle, they were nothing but cold bodies.

Lin Yun led the thirty surviving Demon Palace Warriors. Facing the dead, they bowed deeply three times in respect. At last, Lin Yun’s voice came out hoarse. ”Brothers, we’re going home.”

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, the eyes of the thirty Demon Palace Warriors behind him turned red. They had faced a bloody battle without fear or cowardice, yet now, looking upon the bodies of their brothers, the softest parts of their hearts were deeply pierced.

Each of the seventy corpses wore a smile. Even at the moment of death, they had shown no fear. Instead, they had offered the last, most brilliant smiles of their lives.

Perhaps fighting shoulder-to-shoulder with their brothers, following Lin Yun, was the greatest joy of their lives. That was why they had felt no fear, no matter how strong the enemy, no matter how great their numbers.

Lin Yun took the lead, hoisting the bodies of two Demon Palace Warriors onto his shoulders. The others followed his example, each carrying two corpses. The remaining eight were placed on the Black-striped Tiger’s broad back.

As these brothers had died, Lin Yun collected their Spirit Soldiers. He might form an even stronger ”strongest team” when he returned. And why would it be stronger? Because of the thirty men now following him.

Tempered by this bloody battle, these thirty men had been completely transformed. Their gazes were resolute and cold. A faint yet ever-present killing intent and an aura of blood clung to them, telling all who saw them that these thirty had truly crawled out from a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.

Battle is the greatest forge for a warrior. Having survived such a bloody conflict, these thirty men were now, without a doubt, the strongest warriors in the Demon Palace.

Under their leadership, the newly formed strongest team would surely be even more powerful than the last.

No one spoke on the journey. After a full night of travel, Lin Yun and his men finally arrived outside the city of the Demon Palace.

From a distance, Lin Yun could see a crowd gathered at the city gate to welcome them. There were many Demon Palace Warriors and other members from within the city, and the Grand Commander was among them.

When he first spotted Lin Yun and his men, a smile touched the Grand Commander’s lips. But as they drew closer, that smile gradually froze.

As Lin Yun’s group drew near, the bloody aura emanating from the thirty Demon Palace Warriors behind him was palpable and deeply unsettling.

By the time Lin Yun and his men reached the city gate and stood before the crowd, the people who had intended to give them a rapturous welcome were suddenly at a loss for words.

In the presence of these thirty Warriors, everyone felt an immense pressure, especially the common Demon Palace Warriors. It was as if these thirty men were wild beasts or devils, and an instinctual voice screamed in their hearts, ’Don’t provoke them.’

”Take the bodies to the main hall first,” Lin Yun said to the men behind him. Hearing his order, the thirty Warriors responded in unison. Without another word, they gave the Grand Commander a slight nod and carried the bodies of their brothers into the city.

No one dared to make a sound as they passed. The planned welcoming ceremony never happened. It was all because these thirty Demon Palace Warriors were simply too fearsome; ordinary Demon Palace Warriors felt their breath catch in their throats if they got too close.

Lin Yun, however, had his aura well-concealed and appeared unchanged. He smiled faintly at the Grand Commander. ”In the near future,” Lin Yun said, ”they will become a strongest team truly worthy of the name.”

Hearing this, the Grand Commander also smiled faintly. He could already sense it from their auras—these men had indeed been transformed, a change that went to their very core.

The planned welcoming ceremony had fallen through, but that was unimportant. The seventy bodies were carried into the main hall. Then, presided over by the Grand Commander and eight other Demon Palace Commanders, the fallen were transported with full honors to Demon City, to be interred in the Demon Palace’s ancestral tomb.

Only Demon Palace Warriors who had made immense contributions to the Demon Palace were granted the honor of being interred in the ancestral tomb after death.

Ninety percent of those buried in the ancestral tomb were Commanders. For an ordinary Demon Palace Warrior to earn that right, their contributions had to be truly outstanding.

The contribution made by these seventy men was undoubtedly enormous, so no one objected to them being laid to rest in the ancestral tomb together.

After all this was done, Lin Yun told the thirty remaining warriors of the strongest team to rest for a few days. He then returned to the courtyard the Grand Commander had arranged for him and took a long, relaxing bath.

Soaking in the comfortable wooden tub, Lin Yun reflected on their great victory. After this battle, while the Demon Palace’s overall strength might not have surpassed the Divine Palace, they were at least on equal footing now.

Next time, even in a head-on clash with the Divine Palace, Lin Yun felt he had a fighting chance.

’What secrets and treasures are hidden in these ruins?’ The closer he came to uncovering the truth, the stronger Lin Yun’s curiosity burned. Ever since he had entered these ruins, they had exuded an air of profound mystery.
