Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 672: Chapter 671: Going on the Offensive

A quarter of an hour finally passed. Of the seventy Demon Palace Warriors, fewer than ten were still standing. The rest had been beaten to the ground by the thirty warriors of the strongest battle team and were wailing in agony.

Many of them didn’t even fight back. They were knocked down with a single punch from one of the warriors and didn’t get back up.

When it was over, Lin Yun glanced at the seventy men lying on the ground and shouted. At the sound of his voice, the men on the ground all struggled to their feet.

In the end, Lin Yun only selected thirty out of the seventy men. He didn’t want the other forty. Just as Lin Yun had said, the warriors needed for the strongest battle team had to be the absolute strongest in the Demon Palace.

In Lin Yun’s view, those forty men simply weren’t qualified to join the strongest battle team.

With the thirty men selected, Lin Yun didn’t need to worry about the rest. The Grand Commander would naturally give them their Spirit Soldiers.

He exchanged a few words with the Grand Commander, telling him not to be too hasty. The warriors for the strongest battle team had to be chosen patiently; not only did their Combat Power have to meet the standard, but their temperament was equally important.

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, the Grand Commander nodded in agreement. Lin Yun then greeted the Second Commander before being the first to leave the Martial Arts Training Ground.

After a great victory and several days of rest, Lin Yun was now thinking it was about time to settle things for good. Previously, the Demon Palace’s strength was inferior to the Divine Palace’s. But now, after this major defeat, the Divine Palace’s overall strength was likely even slightly weaker than the Demon Palace’s. ’This is when the Demon Palace should take the initiative,’ Lin Yun thought.

Two more days passed. During that time, the Grand Commander had indeed followed Lin Yun’s advice, making the selection for the strongest battle team extremely strict. After two days, the team had only been replenished to seventy members, leaving a shortage of thirty.

On this day, Lin Yun and the others all gathered in the main hall, including the Monk and the Daoist. After several days of cultivation, the two of them had also successfully broken through to Celestial Spirit Realm Perfection.

Looking at the Second Commander, a hint of embarrassment appeared in the eyes of the Monk and the Daoist. However, the Second Commander didn’t bring up the incident with the two of them, saving them some face.

This time, the Demon Palace’s Commanders, along with Lin Yun and the others, had gathered in the main hall primarily to discuss their next course of action.

After this great victory, Lin Yun’s position in the Demon Palace was even more secure. Even the Grand Commander now followed his every word. Therefore, everyone naturally deferred to Lin Yun’s opinion.

Looking at the crowd, Lin Yun said slowly, ”After this major defeat, the Divine Palace’s overall strength has been greatly reduced. Since they are currently making no moves, we should press our advantage and attack.”

None of the Demon Palace Commanders disagreed with Lin Yun’s words. Indeed, the Demon Palace’s strength had now caught up to the Divine Palace’s. They finally had the capital to face the Divine Palace in a decisive, head-on battle.

Having decided to take the initiative, Lin Yun immediately made arrangements. The Monk and the Daoist would lead five thousand Demon Palace Warriors to attack one of the Divine Palace’s cities. As for Lin Yun, he would lead the strongest battle team to attack another.

After taking these two cities, they would gather the main forces of the Demon Palace and conquer Divine Celestial City in one fell swoop, thereby unifying this world.

The Demon Palace Commanders had no objections to Lin Yun’s arrangements, except for one small point: wouldn’t it be a bit difficult for Lin Yun to attack a city with only the strongest battle team?

Facing the Commander’s doubt, Lin Yun chuckled and said, ”The strongest battle team, since it is composed of the Demon Palace’s most powerful warriors, must naturally be tempered through hardship. These newly joined warriors have not been through a bloody battle. They are not yet qualified to be called the strongest warriors. This is a perfect opportunity to train them.”

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, the Commanders said no more. This time, Lin Yun didn’t assign any of the Demon Palace Commanders to go; instead, he assigned the Monk and the Daoist. As Lin Yun saw it, this was a chance for the Monk and the Daoist to prove themselves.

Although no one was blaming the two now, including the Second Commander, Lin Yun knew that in everyone’s hearts, they still had their opinions about the Monk and the Daoist. After all, the two of them were truly......

Understanding Lin Yun’s intention, the Monk and the Daoist did not refuse and agreed without hesitation.

With the matter settled, Lin Yun decided to set out early the next morning. Once they captured the Divine Palace’s last two cities, only Divine Celestial City would remain. As long as they took Divine Celestial City, the Divine Palace would be considered utterly defeated.

Leaving the main hall, Lin Yun walked with the Monk and the Daoist toward the small courtyard where they lived. On the way, Lin Yun looked at the two of them and said, ”This time, you two had better come back with a decisive victory.”

Hearing this, the Monk and the Daoist immediately promised they would not let Lin Yun down.

Back at the courtyard, Xi Zijin’s injuries hadn’t fully healed, so Lin Yun hadn’t called for her when he went to the main hall for the meeting. Instead, he had let her rest.

Upon learning that Lin Yun had returned, Xi Zijin sought him out. Someone must have told her that Lin Yun was going to lead the strongest battle team to attack a Divine Palace city.

After hearing this news, Xi Zijin insisted on going with Lin Yun, no matter what. Faced with the stubborn Xi Zijin, Lin Yun had no choice but to finally agree.

”This time isn’t like the last; it’s not as perilous. The defending Divine Palace Warriors number only two thousand. There won’t be much danger.” Lin Yun looked at Xi Zijin. Because her injuries hadn’t fully healed, he felt he shouldn’t be taking her with him.

But hearing his words, Xi Zijin replied, ”If it’s not that dangerous, then why can’t I go? You’ll protect me then, right?”

Lin Yun smiled helplessly. The world they were in had reached the brink of its final, decisive battle. However, in the other two worlds—the ones where Luo Feng and Qingfeng Saint were—the struggle between the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace was still just as fierce.

Just like with Lin Yun and the others, the world Luo Feng and his group had entered also had a Divine Palace and a Demon Palace. The two factions were also natural-born enemies, locked in endless war.

Since Luo Feng and the others arrived in this world, the Wuxia Connection, the Spiritual Light Pavilion, and the Death Row Shelter had chosen the Demon Palace, while the Taiqing Academy, the Wuji Sect, and Celestial Eagle Valley had chosen the Divine Palace.

With the addition of these ”people who descended from the heavens,” the struggle between the Demon Palace and the Divine Palace grew even more intense. The only difference was that, unlike in Lin Yun’s world, the conflict in Luo Feng’s world was still a long way from its final great war.

After several major battles, both sides had their victories and defeats. Moreover, in the world Luo Feng and his group were in, the Demon Palace’s overall strength was originally on par with the Divine Palace’s, making their struggle all the more deadlocked.

It was the same in Qingfeng Saint’s world.

Lin Yun knew nothing about the affairs of these two other worlds. Right now, he was only thinking about what the secret of this mysterious ruin truly was.
