Divine Emperor Demon Emperor

Chapter 676: Chapter 675: Division of the Divine Palace

No one knew what Qing Zhu had been talking about, and Lin Yun certainly didn’t. At that moment, the five commanders who had left the main hall seemingly returned to their respective quarters. However, inside the Fourth Commander’s room, he and the Fifth Commander were secretly discussing something.

”Fifth Commander, what do you think?” The two of them were alone in the room. The Fourth Commander looked at the Fifth Commander and spoke.

Hearing the Fourth Commander’s words, the Fifth Commander pondered for a long moment before finally saying hesitantly, ”Isn’t this a bit... We are Commanders of the Divine Palace, after all.”

”Forget about being Commanders! Qing Zhu Commander has already abandoned the Divine Palace. Are we supposed to wait until the Demon Palace breaches the city and comes to slaughter us before we finally make a decision?” the Fourth Commander snapped in response.

The Fourth and Fifth Commander were discussing the matter of their surrender to the Demon Palace. With the Demon Palace yet to attack Divine Celestial City, the Fourth Commander felt this was the perfect opportunity.

When the time came, the two of them could coordinate with the Demon Palace from inside Divine Celestial City. By rendering such a meritorious service, even if they weren’t fully accepted by the Demon Palace, they could at least save their own lives.

The Fourth Commander could see that Qing Zhu had completely abandoned the Divine Palace. Although he didn’t know what her plans were, from his perspective, he couldn’t just wait to die.

Furthermore, judging from the current situation, there was no way the Divine Palace could withstand a major offensive from the Demon Palace. Whether in terms of overall strength or the morale of its warriors, the Divine Palace was no match for the Demon Palace right now.

The morale of the Divine Palace Warriors, in particular, was at rock bottom. Not a single Divine Palace Warrior believed this battle could be won.

They were already thinking about losing before the fight had even started. That was why, after leaving the main hall, the Fourth Commander had secretly summoned the Fifth Commander to discuss their surrender to the Demon Palace.

The Fourth Commander believed surrendering to the Demon Palace was their only path to survival, but the Fifth Commander was still hesitating, feeling that it would be a betrayal of his duty as a Commander of the Divine Palace.

Seeing the Fifth Commander’s indecisiveness, the Fourth Commander’s voice turned cold as he snapped, ”Have you made up your mind? This isn’t loyalty to the Divine Palace. Once you’re dead, it’s all over.”

At these words, the Fifth Commander looked up and stared at the Fourth Commander. After a long silence, he finally said with a dejected air, ”Alright, we’ll do it your way. We’ll contact the Demon Palace in secret, but I have one condition that they must agree to.”

The Fifth Commander’s condition was that after Divine Celestial City fell, the Demon Palace’s forces were not to indiscriminately slaughter the Divine Palace Warriors or the city’s elderly, weak, women, and children.

The two reached an agreement. Soon after, the Fourth Commander personally penned a secret letter, which clearly laid out their offer to surrender and the Fifth Commander’s condition.

As long as the Demon Palace agreed to their terms, then during the main assault on the city, the two of them would coordinate from the inside to help the Demon Palace’s forces kill the other three commanders.

Once the secret letter was written, the Fourth Commander summoned a trusted subordinate and ordered him to secretly deliver it to the Demon Palace’s main camp outside the city.

A night passed. The next morning, Lin Yun finished his nightly cultivation and stood up to stretch. Just as he was thinking of going outside to practice his Martial Skills, Zhang Qing came rushing into his tent.

”Lin Yun, quick, come with me to the main tent! There’s something important to discuss.” Zhang Qing said urgently the moment he entered. Without waiting for a reply, he grabbed Lin Yun and started pulling him outside.

Seeing how anxious Zhang Qing was, Lin Yun didn’t object. ’There must be something truly important for us to discuss,’ he thought.

Under Zhang Qing’s lead, the two of them quickly arrived at the main tent. Upon entering, Lin Yun saw a Divine Palace Warrior standing inside.

Without a word, Lin Yun impassively walked to the head seat and sat down. After he was seated, the Grand Commander, who stood to the side, handed him a secret letter.

This letter was, of course, the one personally penned by the Fourth Commander the previous night. That morning, this Divine Palace Warrior had secretly delivered it to the Demon Palace. When the Demon Palace’s various commanders saw it, they were shocked; they’d never expected a Divine Palace Commander to surrender.

After all, the Divine Palace and Demon Palace had been fighting for so many years that surrender was almost unheard of. The hatred between the two factions ran so deep that most would rather die in battle than choose to surrender.

After finishing the Fourth Commander’s letter, Lin Yun looked at the Divine Palace Warrior who had delivered it. He didn’t speak immediately. ’Something about this is strange,’ Lin Yun thought.

’Qing Zhu is holding down the fort in the Divine Palace. With her methods, would a commander under her really surrender?’

Moreover, the secret letter clearly stated that as long as the Demon Palace agreed to the conditions, the Fourth and Fifth Commander would surrender together. They would then coordinate from the inside to help the Demon Palace conquer Divine Celestial City in a single blow.

’I don’t know what Qing Zhu is doing, but judging from the letter, the Fourth and Fifth Commander of the Divine Palace seem to genuinely want to surrender. It doesn’t look like there’s any conspiracy or trickery involved.’

After mulling it over for a long time, Lin Yun still couldn’t figure out what game Qing Zhu was playing. Of course, it never occurred to him to think that Qing Zhu might have simply given up.

”Did the Fourth Commander give this to you himself?” Lin Yun asked the Divine Palace Warrior, his voice calm.

”That’s right,” the man replied with a nod.

”So, the Fourth and Fifth Commander have both shown their willingness to surrender to the Demon Palace, and you’re saying your Qing Zhu Commander knows nothing about it?” Lin Yun asked again. This was his primary concern.

”She probably doesn’t know. Ever since the last major defeat, it’s like Qing Zhu Commander has given up on the Divine Palace. Faced with the Demon Palace’s relentless attacks, she hasn’t come up with any strategy...” the man replied.

Hearing this, Lin Yun grew even more suspicious. ’Qing Zhu has given up on the Divine Palace? Does she no longer want the inheritance and treasures from these ruins?’

Though he didn’t understand what was going on in Qing Zhu’s mind, after a long period of contemplation, Lin Yun decided to accept the Fourth and Fifth Commander’s offer.

After all, with their help, the Demon Palace’s assault would be significantly easier, and it would prevent many casualties among the Demon Palace Warriors.

Even though the Divine Palace seemed weak now, Divine Celestial City, like Demon City, was easy to defend and hard to attack. If the Divine Palace Warriors truly dug in and fought to the death, taking the city would still require considerable effort.

He nodded to the Grand Commander. Seeing Lin Yun’s approval, the Grand Commander turned to the Divine Palace Warrior and said, ”I will write a secret reply for you now. Take it back to the Fourth Commander. When the time comes, I hope he and the Fifth Commander will show the Demon Palace their sincerity.”

With that, the Grand Commander immediately wrote a reply and handed it to the Divine Palace Warrior. The letter specified the time of the Demon Palace’s attack, expressing the hope that the Fourth and Fifth Commander would follow through on their promise. Of course, the Grand Commander also agreed to their conditions, which was clearly stated in the reply.
