Chapter 914, Feather Country’s Struggle

Andrei said helplessly. “And the Orel Family belongs to the faction opposing my Kodiak Family. Last time when we injured the Orel Family’s Young Master, it seems that also became a catalyst for this matter, giving the Orel Family the perfect excuse to move against my Kodiak Family.”

“They wanted to stir up trouble anyway, and this incident gave them something to hold over us. Together with several other Families, they began targeting our Kodiak Family. So, my father was targeted because of this. On his way to a meeting, he was attacked by mysterious figures.”

“Although we don’t know exactly who these mysterious figures are, you don’t need to think hard to know they were top experts selected from those opposing Families. If it were not for several Families working together, my Father couldn’t have been so easily targeted and injured, nearly losing his life.”

Lu Fan said in surprise. “So even Feather Country has such intense power struggles…”

Jin Zhan beside him said. “This is normal. Never mind Feather Country, even in our Dragon Country, aren’t the struggles between the moderate faction and upright faction still ongoing?”

“Although the Three Elders of Dragon Country lead, such vast power cannot all be concentrated in their hands. It must be delegated. Once power is delegated, issues of power struggles and factional conflicts inevitably arise. At least Dragon Country has the Three Elders steering the chariot, so the two horses don’t collide with each other. At critical moments, they can always resolve conflicts and crises.”

“But Feather Country is different. Feather Country’s system differs from Dragon Country. They’re managed jointly by multiple Families. Once disagreements arise, with no one above all the Families, who can make the final decision? This naturally leads to internal conflicts in Feather Country, and it is very difficult to unify. If handled improperly, the entire Feather Country might become a pile of scattered sand.”

Andrei nodded, deeply agreeing. “That’s right. After my Father was attacked this time, he also decided to let the matter rest and not pursue it further. Because if we really investigated which Family attacked him, how should the consequences be handled?”

“If we pretend not to know, people will just mock our weakness, thinking our Kodiak Family is easy to bully. Once that happens, our Kodiak Family’s status in Feather Country would plummet, with no prestige to speak of. But if we strike back forcefully, we’d be facing several Families whose influence isn’t smaller than ours. Never mind whether we can win or not. Once the fight starts, Feather Country might descend into a full-blown civil war. At that time, with the Ancient God threat not resolved and our Feather Country already in civil war, if any Ancient God really emerges, Feather Country might shatter at the first touch.”

Lu Fan thought for a moment, then said. “You’re right. But, not pursuing who injured your Father just because of this, in my view, is just burying your head in the sand. If you do nothing, the Kodiak Family’s prestige will definitely be affected.”

Andrei smiled bitterly. “We all understand this principle. However, this is already the best method we could think of to handle the problem.”

“Perhaps there’s a better method?” Lu Fan smiled, leaving Andrei puzzled.

He quickly asked. “Brothers, do you have a way?”

Lu Fan nodded. “En. You don’t know who attacked your Patriarch, so don’t worry about who did it. Whoever you think it is, that’s who it is. Pin this blame on them and attack directly. The more forceful you are, the more strength you showcase! Who cares who is the culprit in this case, there are already suspects and they are already throwing their hands at you.”

“Ah!?” These words left even Andrei greatly shocked.

He said. “You mean we should directly retaliate against those Families we suspect, without even investigating?”

Lu Fan nodded. “Exactly. What is there to investigate? I say you did it, so you did it! With that kind of spirit, I guarantee no one will dare provoke your Kodiak Family in future.”

“But… this would require sufficient strength to back it up…” Andrei smiled bitterly. “If our Kodiak Family had that kind of strength, we would have brought all the other Families under our banner long ago. Why would we jointly manage Feather Country with them?”

Lu Fan smiled and said. “Do you think, with Jin and me helping you, you’d lack strength?”

“Ah!? This… I never thought…” Suddenly, Andrei was confused.

According to Lu Fan’s suggestion, this behaviour would essentially be colluding with foreign forces to unify Feather Country.

Was this not essentially making Feather Country subordinate, turning it into a vassal state?

Feather Country was a major nation. It could not possibly allow itself to become that kind of country.

Seemingly reading Andrei’s thoughts, Lu Fan explained. “You don’t need to feel so pressured. The two of us aren’t acting in Dragon Country’s name to help you. We’re merely helping a friend and making a small move to give those other Families a sense of fear.”

Even if your Kodiak Family truly becomes Feather Country’s decision-maker one day, we won’t take even half a bit of power from you.”

At this point, Jin Zhan also spoke. “By the way, I do know that you Kodiak Family people cooperate closely with our Dragon Country. Especially regarding opinions on the Ancient Gods, Feather Country was even one of the first countries willing to cooperate with Dragon Country and let us hunt down the Ancient God. The Orel Family and its faction disagree with you. I wonder what exactly their opinions are on this matter? I want to know.”

Andrei did not hide anything. “I believe their overall idea is to become subordinates and slaves of the Ancient Gods. Because supposedly many Ancient Families in Star Strip Country have reached agreements with the Holy Mountain Ancient God. These Ancient Families work for the Holy Mountain Ancient God, and in future the Holy Mountain Ancient God will grant them power. Not only won’t it kill them, it will let them follow it forever.”

“The Orel Family and Families of their faction have the same idea. They also want to find Feather Country’s Ancient God and negotiate with it. In exchange for helping the Ancient God, they want a chance of survival, even the opportunity for Immortality.”

These words made Lu Fan laugh. “Cooperate with an Ancient God? These people are really naive. If they truly feel the Ancient God is invincible, thinking this way is understandable. Unfortunately, how could an Ancient God possibly value them? I estimate that in the end, these people will be the ones who contribute the most effort yet die in the most miserable way.”
