Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 93, I Challenge You

Translator: Silavin

Seeing that no one else had questions, Zhao Shengming continued, “Although you have points in hand, these points are only temporary. In a month, all you new students will face the freshmen exam. The rules of this assessment will not be disclosed for now.”

“After the assessment, your points will change, and the rankings will be completely reshuffled. At that time, the top 30 new students will be awarded the title of Noble Class Students.”

“Noble Class Students can enjoy many privileges that ordinary students can’t, such as being able to participate in Dungeon Instances that our academy doesn’t open to everyone, having priority in exchanging Skill Books, weapons and equipment. They also have the right to live in the luxurious villa area that many people envy, and so on.”

“Be warned that becoming a Noble Class Student doesn’t mean you are allowed to rest easy. In the future, every month, Noble Class Students must accept challenges from at least three people to keep their status. If someone challenges them and wins, the challenger automatically replaces the loser and becomes a member of the class.”

“For those ordinary students, you need to be wary of this. Don’t think you have all the time in the world to enter the Noble Class after the freshmen exam. Just because you are allowed to challenge the Noble Class Students does not mean you will be able to beat them as time trickles on. After all, the Noble Class Students are already the top 30 amongst you. After enjoying the privileges of the Noble Class, their strength will only leave you further behind. Basically, over time, there won’t be much change in the Noble Class Students. Therefore, for those who want to compete to enter the Noble Class, the freshmen exam a month later might be the best chance for those ranked below the top 30.”

Everyone secretly nodded, rubbing their hands in anticipation, planning to perform well in the major exam. They were all going to strive to become a Noble Class Student. After all, everyone was at least in the top 50 of their city’s major exam. Who would accept themselves as weaker than the others?

Seeing everyone getting fired up, Zhao Shengming was very satisfied. He nodded and continued, “During this month, you can use your granted points within the school to improve yourself.”

“Do note that the amount of points has a crucial impact on the results of the freshmen exam a month later. The final ranking is going to calculate the combined amount of granted points and exam points. So, whether to keep your granted points for the overall score or to sharpen your axe before cutting firewood… it is up to you. You can first spend points to run Dungeon Instances in the University, exchange them for equipment and Potions, and aim to earn more points in the freshmen exam. We leave this decision up to you. Additionally, during this month, you can also win points from others through sparring matches.”

“Our University encourages students to spar with each other, and for each sparring match, you can use the points in your identity card as a stake. How to do it is already written in your freshmen handbook. You can look at it later.”

Lu Fan understood the rules. He knew that in the coming month, the new students should be very active.

Everyone wanted to become a Noble Class Student, and the key thing was the points.

Probably, in order to get more points, there should be quite a few new students actively seeking others to spar.

However, Lu Fan did not need to do so, because he felt that even if he directly forfeited the freshmen exam, the points in his possession would be enough to make him one of the Noble Class Students by default.

At this time, Zhao Shengming seemed to intentionally add fuel to the fire among the new students, a faint smile appearing on his face.

“There’s one more thing you should know. The thirty villas that only Noble Class Students are qualified to live in have already been occupied. Those occupants are the top thirty students in the current freshmen ranking. They have extremely rich granted points in their hands. Naturally the University is proud of them and I would like to introduce these thirty students to everyone, one by one. If you are confident, you can challenge them.”

“First, let me introduce the student who ranked first among this year’s new students, Lu Fan! His Profession is Dragon Tamer, and he’s also the top scorer and is from South Province!”

Lu Fan had not expected that there would be such drama in the freshmen enrollment ceremony.

Zhao Shengming was clearly pushing out the top 30 students to be targeted by everyone.

However, when Lu Fan thought about it he understood Zhao Shengming’s intentions. He would have done the same in his shoes. The University wanted to continue putting pressure on the top 30 geniuses, so as to better squeeze out their full potential.

Lu Fan smiled and stood up from his seat, accepting everyone’s eager and challenging gazes.

After Lu Fan stood up, the auditorium immediately became a bit noisy, with everyone discussing.

“So he’s Lu Fan, the top scorer from South Province. So he is that Dragon Tamer!? He looks so fair and delicate. He doesn’t seem to be that impressive.”

“Don’t judge a book by its cover! Dragon Tamers are typically recognised as a useless Profession, yet he took the title of top scorer as a Dragon Tamer. It’s almost certain that he must have a Dragon!”

“Wait. You’re saying he has a Pet Dragon!? That’s too scary. No wonder he’s the top scorer. But, come to think of it, aren’t Dragons only supposed to appear in Forbidden Areas? How could one be captured as a Pet?”

“Who knows? There’s no major exam stream recording of him online. No one knows how he became the top scorer. This whole thing is really strange.”

“No stream recording? That shouldn’t be right. In theory, not just for top students of each Province, high scoring students in the major exam would have their stream recordings being used as teaching materials, analysed in every High School. How could there be no stream recording of him? Could it be that he got his position by cheating?”

“Who knows? Anyway, this has been discussed a lot online. Some people speculate that maybe his major exam stream recording was too confidential, that is why it was withheld by some big shot in Dragon Capital. In short, you can’t find it anywhere and it’s still a mystery why that is the case.”

“Hmm, you’re right. It’s because we can’t find Lu Fan’s major exam stream recording online that he is less well-known compared to the other top students of their Province. What’s more it is widely known that South Province’s exam this time is the most difficult.”

“Although there’s no major exam stream recording of Lu Fan, the video of the one who took second place in South Province, Chen Tianzhi, has been released. I’ve watched it several times. Chen Tianzhi is also a Dragon Tamer, who single-handedly cleared the Terror difficulty exam. I wouldn’t say it was very easy, but he went through it in one go from start to finish. It was very satisfying to watch.”

“Chen Tianzhi has an Earth Dragon, which makes him so powerful. I guess this Lu Fan must have gotten an Earth Dragon from somewhere too, that’s how he became the top scorer.”

“Hmm, what you say makes sense. Having a Giant Dragon as a Pet does seem a bit unbelievable, but for something like an Earth Dragon, it might be possible to get one through methods like running some High Level Secret Realms.”

“Even if it’s an Earth Dragon, it’s still a Monster with Dragon Bloodline. Who knows how powerful it is… Ah, with Lu Fan being a Dragon Tamer, he’s basically definitely going to continue being one of the Noble Class Students…”

Everyone was discussing Lu Fan enthusiastically, but no one really knew much about him. They only guessed that Lu Fan had a Dragon, but they did not know what kind of Dragon it was.

Lu Fan was not surprised. He knew that all information about his major exam had been ordered to be kept confidential by Tu Jing. Except for teachers in the Universities and people like Qin Shanhai, who watched the live stream that day, no one else could have seen it.

Lu Fan quickly sat down. At this point, the discussion among everyone quieted down a bit.

Zhao Shengming then continued to introduce the student ranked second in granted points.

“Next is the student ranked second in granted points among this year’s new students, Jian Ying. Her Profession is Sword Tamer, the top student from North Cloud Province!”

Jian Ying merely stood up politely, then sat down.

However, the revelation of her identity caused an even bigger discussion.

“This is the top scorer from our North Cloud Province. Impressive! She chose the Nightmare difficulty for the major exam and went through it alone. She had directly reached the 69th floor without any difficulty and cleared the major exam with an extremely high score. She surpassed the second top student of the Province by far more than 100,000 points!”

“Wow, a difference of 100,000 points? Is she even Human?”

“Do all the experts nowadays look so low-key? She’s clearly an ice beauty, how can she be so ridiculously strong…”

“I’ve heard about her. Not only is she powerful, but her voice is said to be very pleasant, quite a contrast to her demeanour. But it was maybe for this reason that she doesn’t talk much.”

“Really? Then I’ll try to strike up a conversation later, to see if her voice is really that nice.”

“I advise you not to. The last person who tried, the grass on their grave is already taller than you.”

“Right… forget it then…”

It was clear that Jian Ying’s fame was above Lu Fan’s.

Next, Zhao Shengming introduced the top 30 students one by one. Most of these students had Hidden Professions, showing that Hidden Professions were generally more powerful than Ordinary Professions.

After introducing everyone, Zhao Shengming mentioned a few rules and bottom lines that should never be crossed at Dragon Capital University. He soon officially announced the end of the freshmen enrollment ceremony.

From the day after tomorrow, everyone could attend classes according to the course schedule, and in the remaining time, they could use educational resources to get stronger.

Zhao Shengming indeed did not care much about formalities, and this freshmen enrollment ceremony was done faster than everyone had expected.

Lu Fan planned to go to the Dungeon Hall after leaving the auditorium to find a Dungeon Instance to run and raise Xiao Cui’s Level.

Just as he and Qin Qiu were about to stand up, they saw a tower-like figure walking towards them.

Hong Wu’s tall figure was particularly eye-catching in the crowd. He came in front of Lu Fan, took out his identity card, and said to Lu Fan from above, “Lu Fan, I challenge you!”

Hong Wu’s voice was very loud, and many students who were about to leave stopped in their tracks and looked over.

The freshmen enrollment ceremony had just ended, and someone was already challenging Lu Fan, who was ranked first in granted points!?

Now, there was a good show to watch!

Even Zhao Shengming stopped and looked back at this scene.

Silavin: Changed the number of points Jian Ying has to not be stated (It’s stated to be 380,000 here). Future Chapters changed the number. She also did not stop at the 69th floor. Guess the author wanted to make her sorta be more closely equal to Lu Fan later.
