Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 78, Title of City’s Top Student Is Still Uncertain

Lu Fan gently stroked the Crimson Cloak of Flame and Frost twice, then equipped it.

This cloak was of superior quality, with one half embroidered with flame patterns and the other half with ice crystal patterns. The two patterns merged perfectly in the middle, not seeming out of place at all.

After all, it was a Platinum Grade equipment, so its appearance was naturally not lacking.

Now that the world had merged games with reality, all kinds of equipment had appeared. Many people even wore armour on the streets, so even if Lu Fan wore a cloak, it would seem normal in their eyes.

As soon as he put on the cloak, Lu Fan immediately felt comfortable, as if he was impervious to heat and cold.

“This is truly an amazing item!” Lu Fan was very satisfied.

In this major exam, he would surely win the title of South Province’s top student. He had also soared from Level 15 all the way to Level 22, obtaining one Gold Grade equipment, one Platinum Grade equipment, and a Skill Book! It could be said that he had reaped a bountiful harvest.

The major exam was over, and Lu Fan had no reason to stay here any longer. Therefore, he took out the major exam Transfer Stone and crushed it, directly teleporting out of the Sky Scaling Tower.

In the blink of an eye, Lu Fan was teleported back to the waiting area.

At this time, many other examinees were also being teleported back one after another.

Among these examinees, some were beaming with joy, while others were sighing and lamenting, their emotions were all different.

Normally, after the major exam, examinees could go home and rest. After all, they just had to wait for the results to be announced.

However, as soon as Lu Fan was teleported back to the waiting area, he immediately noticed that from the distant platform, Qin Shanhai, Bai Hengjian, and a large group of people came running over, surrounding him in an instant.

“Lu Fan, you little rascal, you’re really amazing. You’re going to be our top student!” Bai Hengjian’s face was glowing red as he grabbed Lu Fan’s hand and would not let go. “You are the pride of our Third Academy. From now on, your photo will always be hung in our school’s hall of fame!”

The principal of First Academy was incredibly sour and took this opportunity to sow discord. “You’re really something. The photos hanging on your Third Academy’s hall of fame are mostly heroes who died fighting Monster invasions. Although glorious, isn’t this akin to cursing him?”

“Get out of here! Stop slandering me. I wouldn’t curse Lu Fan even if I cursed you!” Bai Hengjian was so angry his beard was shaking, almost getting into a fight with the principal of First Academy.

Seeing a group of principals fawning over him, including his own principal Bai Hengjian, Lu Fan felt overwhelmed for a moment and quickly tried to find a way to escape.

Fortunately, at this moment, Qin Shanhai stepped forward, leading him a few steps to the side, and said with a smile. “Lu Fan, you did well in this major exam… No, you did too well! Although I was mentally prepared, I was still taken aback by what you’ve accomplished.”

Lu Fan smiled and asked, “With my results, will someone help me deal with the pressure from the Extremistis Country?”

Qin Shanhai laughed heartily. “Not just that, now the pressure is on the Little Princess from the Extremistis Country. I guess if someone doesn’t force her to come and apologise to you, they would be throwing away Extremistis Country’s face!”

Lu Fan had not expected Qin Shanhai, as the dignified City Lord, to use such an internet slang. He could not help but chuckle.

A moment later, Qin Shanhai’s smile faded as he seriously stated: “I will send your brilliant performance to my teacher, letting him handle the matter between you and Extremistis Country’s Little Princess. So, you can rest assured about this matter. No one will dare to touch you now. What you need to consider now is which University you would like to enroll in after the results are announced. With your score, the top ten Universities should be scrambling to recruit you.”

“When their admissions office staff come, they will negotiate terms with you. I will help gather them together. That way, they’ll be bidding for your enrollment. You can let them compete with each other on the benefits and treatments offered by their Universities. Carefully consider which University you want to attend after hearing everything they have to offer. At the same time, some big companies in Jianghai City will also be rushing to give you money. In regards to this, I suggest you’d better not accept anything first. Although they’re free, as the saying goes, ‘when you take from others, you owe them’. These businessmen will never conduct business at a loss.”

Lu Fan nodded repeatedly, taking Qin Shanhai’s words to heart.

After thinking for a while, Qin Shanhai resumed smiling and said. “There’s nothing else for now. In any case, congratulations, Lu Fan. You can go back and rest in a while. When those from the top ten Universities arrive, I’ll have Xiao Qiu notify you.”

“Alright, thank you very much, Uncle Qin,” Lu Fan nodded with a smile.

Originally, Lu Fan wanted to go home, but just as he was about to leave, the old principals and a group of High Ranking Officials from the Education Board were unwilling to let him go. They immediately surrounded Lu Fan again, insisting on seeing Lu Fan’s Pet Dragon with their own eyes.

Lu Fan also knew that his participation in the major exam with a Pet Dragon was definitely something that could not be hidden. In the first place, he was not really trying to hide it.

Since everyone wanted to see Xiao Ye, he might as well let them look.

Lu Fan patted his chest, and Xiao Ye in her Infant Form poked her head out.

A burst of exclamations erupted from the group of principals and Education Board Officials. They were like a bunch of inexperienced country bumpkins seeing electricity for the first time.

Even Qian Xiong, who was mixed among the High Ranking Officials, was the same. When had he, as a Special Envoy from the Dragon Capital, ever lost his composure like this?

But when he saw the Dragon with his own eyes, he still could not help but exclaim like everyone else.

Finally, Lu Fan was allowed to go back and wait for the results to be announced.

Qin Shanhai looked at the group of old principals, finally fixing his gaze on Bai Hengjian, and then smiled. “Principal Bai, your Third Academy has produced a provincial top student. Shouldn’t you show some appreciation?”

Bai Hengjian stroked his beard, looking as if he was ready to go all out. “Of course!”

“Third Academy producing a provincial top student is something worth celebrating with gongs and drums. I certainly need to brag about it. This old man has been stingy all his life, but I certainly can’t be stingy about this! I’ve decided, on behalf of Third Academy, to give Lu Fan a reward of 10 million Dragon Coins, and additionally, a Silver… no, a Gold Grade item!”

Upon hearing this, everyone around was shocked. They all showed shocked expressions at how Bai Hengjian, this ‘Iron Cock’, had truly plucked all his feathers, only having his chicken skin left!

(Silavin: I just gotta translate it as that :D)

As far as everyone knew, Bai Hengjian indeed had a Gold Grade item, which was his prized possession. He was even reluctant to equip himself.

No one had expected that he would be willing to give it away as a reward for Lu Fan!

But then again, if one’s own school really produced a provincial top student, what was wrong with giving away a Gold Grade item?

If it could make this prodigy remember the kindness of his alma mater, and he lends a hand in the future, what the school could gain would be far more than just one Gold Grade item!

Logically, once a provincial top student emerges, besides the school showing appreciation, the local education sector would also provide extremely generous rewards.

Since even Bai Hengjian had brought out a Gold Grade item as a reward, naturally, Qin Shanhai could not be stingy either. He needed to give Lu Fan an even bigger reward on behalf of Jianghai City.

So, Qin Shanhai began to discuss with the group of Education Board Officers how Jianghai City should reward Lu Fan after the results are announced in the coming days.

Just as Qin Shanhai was discussing this matter with the Officers at the waiting area, a flash of white light appeared, and another person was teleported out.

This person was Hong Wu.

Hong Wu was seriously injured and would conservatively need to rest for a while. However, he was in an excellent mental state, because he believed he had performed exceptionally well in this major exam.

Hong Wu had charged all the way to the seventy-second floor. He ultimately was unable to defeat the Boss guarding that floor, and had to crush the Transfer Stone to exit, ending his major exam.

Originally, Hong Wu had estimated that he could conservatively reach the eightieth floor, or even make a push for the ninetieth floor. However, this year’s exam was just too difficult, and he had already done his best.

Before leaving, Hong Wu had noticed his score, which after the time bonus, reached 89,000. It was not much lower than his estimated score.

With such difficult exam questions and such a high score, Hong Wu was very confident about his chances of becoming Jianghai City’s top student.

After coming out, he looked at the scoreboard of the examinees still in the exam floating in the sky.

For those who had finished the major exam, their names and scores would automatically disappear from the scoreboard, so the ones at the top were naturally not Lu Fan or Hong Wu, but Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman.

Currently, the two of them have reached the sixty-sixth floor, with scores very close to each other, both around 75,000 points.

Hong Wu estimated that even working together, they absolutely could not pass the seventy-second floor, as the Boss on that floor was very difficult to kill. Not to mention that when two people teamed up, the difficulty of the exam would increase.

Even with the time bonus, Qin Qiu and Tao Xiaoman could not possibly exceed Hong Wu’s score.

With this, Hong Wu was completely at ease. At least, his position as Jianghai City’s top student seemed secure.

Hong Wu had never thought that examinees who had already finished the exam would have higher scores because he believed that he had rushed through without wasting a moment.

With such a fast clearing speed, it was absolutely impossible for anyone to surpass him. So, those who had exited earlier than him either chose lower difficulty or did not clear as many levels as he did. Either case, he believes it to be impossible for anyone to have a higher score than him.

Think about it, even Qin Qiu, the only one who could rival him, did not perform as well as him in this major exam. Who else would have a chance to compete with him for the title of Jianghai City’s top student?

Hong Wu was feeling smug.

He had intended to rush to the hospital to receive treatment from a Priest despite his injuries, but just as he was about to leave, he noticed that a group of old principals and Education Board Officers had unprecedentedly come down from the platform and were saying something at the waiting area. All of them were very excited.

Hong Wu also saw his own principal among them.

Hong Wu thought for a moment and felt that this was an opportunity to make an appearance. He endured the pain, straightened his chest, raised his head, and walked forward. He came before the principal of First Academy, bowed, and politely greeted: “Greetings, Principal!”

“Oh? It’s Hong Wu.” The principal of First Academy saw Hong Wu and also noticed that he was covered in injuries, apparently having given his all in the major exam.

“Your injuries are not light. Why don’t you quickly go to the hospital and find a Priest to treat your injuries?”

Hong Wu grinned and said, “It’s alright, Principal, they’re all minor injuries. For the time bonus on the score, I rushed through everything. If I had taken it slow and steady, I wouldn’t have been injured this badly.”

The principal of First Academy nodded and said, “The major exam results are indeed important, but safety is the real issue to consider. By the way, how did you do in this major exam?”

Hong Wu thought, [Finally, the principal is asking about my results!]

He pretended to be modest, sighed, and said, “Ah, I didn’t perform very well, my score is only 89,000, not even reaching 90,000. Perhaps, the title of Jianghai City’s top student is uncertain for me.”
