Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 62, First, Watch the Major Exam

Qin Shanhai had the strong desire to nurture the talent called Lu Fan. At the same time, he could not abandon his own moral compass. He wanted to stick by this even if he was to be stripped of his position as City Lord.

In short, he was determined to protect Lu Fan!

Seeing that Qin Shanhai remained silent for a long time, Qian Xiong assumed he had taken his words to heart and advised, “If you’ve come to your senses, go and bring him here. Since matters have escalated to international relations, things have gotten a lot more complicated. Although you’re the City Lord, it’s best not to inquire too much.”

As he spoke, Qian Xiong was about to find the person in charge of this major exam to terminate Lu Fan’s exam.

“Wait!” Qin Shanhai stopped Qian Xiong.

“Old Qian, the affairs between Dragon Country and Extremistis Country are indeed complex, but once the secrets Lu Fan carries are revealed, even Extremistis Country will seem insignificant. Today, no one can stop Lu Fan from taking the major exam. If you want to take him away, you’ll have to wait until the major exam is over!”

Seeing Qin Shanhai’s unyielding attitude, Qian Xiong felt anger rising within him. Pressure emanated from his body as he warned, “Are you going to defy the orders of a Special Envoy!? I am a Special Envoy from Dragon Capital, three ranks above you. This counts as insubordination!”

Qian Xiong revealed his Level and Attributes, showing that he was a Level 57 Sword God, a Second Profession Change Swordsman, at a Level on par with Qin Shanhai.

Qin Shanhai also revealed his Level and Attributes, maintaining his firm stance. “Even if you call it insubordination, I’ll wholeheartedly accept it. As long as I’m here, no one can terminate Lu Fan’s exam. Old Qian, if you don’t want to lose face, you’d better obediently come with me to sit at the table. After you see what Lu Fan does in this exam, you’ll understand why I won’t let you terminate it.”

“…” Qian Xiong stared intently at Qin Shanhai, his gaze gradually turning cold. It was evident that Qin Shanhai was willing to risk his entire career to protect Lu Fan.

Qian Xiong and Qin Shanhai were at the same Level. If they fight, it would be difficult to determine a victor in a short time.

Qian Xiong saw no need to come to blows with Qin Shanhai. However, he still could not understand why Qin Shanhai insisted on letting Lu Fan continue to take the major exam, saying that after the exam, he would understand why it could not be terminated.

After much deliberation, Qian Xiong reigned in his aura. He no longer held onto his aggressive stance.

He stood with his hands behind his back and coldly declared, “Qin Shanhai, you sure are something! Fine! I won’t take you on right now. We’ll wait until after the major exam has ended.  Once it’s done, I’ll immediately take that student away. Naturally, when I return to Dragon Capital, I will definitely write a detailed report about your actions!”

Qin Shanhai let out a sigh of relief and also withdrew his aura. He waved off as he said, “Do as you please then. Since we’re going to watch the major exam, let’s not stand here. I’ll have someone bring a seat for you at the table.”

Qian Xiong snorted, which was taken as consent.

Afterwards, the two of them returned to the table together, and Qin Shanhai arranged a seat for Qian Xiong.

“I want to see what’s so special about this Lu Fan. What makes you value him so highly!” Qian Xiong sat down firmly.

He noticed that all the principals present had opened the live feed of Lu Fan’s major exam and were watching it with great intent.

At this moment, Lu Fan was on the first floor of the Sky Scaling Tower, surrounded by carcasses of Monsters. He seemed to have already passed the first level of the Sky Scaling Tower.

However, Lu Fan had not entered the next floor. He was walking towards a corner of the first floor, lost in thought.

Seeing this scene, Qian Xiong snorted in disdain. [What? After only clearing the first floor, and you already need to rest? If it’s like this, with his abilities, you’d only be able to clear up to the tenth floor. Such meagre strength, wouldn’t he be at the bottom of the major exam?]

However, as Qian Xiong looked more closely, he realised something was amiss… [Wait.. how can there be ten Monsters on the first floor of the Sky Scaling Tower? Logically, the first level of the major exam should always be an easy pass. Even on the Terror difficulty, there shouldn’t be more than three Monsters.]

Qian Xiong suddenly thought of a possibility and observed Lu Fan’s Sky Scaling Tower more carefully. [I see now!]

The surroundings of the Sky Scaling Tower were shrouded in purple-black mist, which was one of the hallmarks of Nightmare difficulty!

[This boy had chosen the Nightmare difficulty!?] Qian Xiong’s eyes widened. [To think someone had actually dared to choose Nightmare difficulty. Could it be that Jianghai City has produced a monstrous genius!?]

At this point, Qin Shanhai had also taken his seat. He was not surprised to see that Lu Fan had cleared the first floor, but he was puzzled as to why Lu Fan had not continued to the second floor.

“Everyone, how is Lu Fan’s major exam going? Why hasn’t he moved on to the next floor?” Qin Shanhai asked proactively.

The old principals around him all wore expressions as if they had seen a ghost, seemingly shocked by Lu Fan’s performance just now.

Hearing Qin Shanhai’s question, the principal of First Academy took the initiative to answer, “This child named Lu Fan… is incredibly strong to an absurd degree! He just entered the first floor of the Sky Scaling Tower and immediately killed ten Level 5 Mini Bosses in one-shot. However, after clearing the Monsters in this area, he went to a corner of this floor. We’re not quite sure why.”
