The instant Kro pressed the button, Gu Xi immediately felt a strong sense of unease.

He saw a massive surge of Evil Qi gushing up from underground, trying to pour into all this Gold.

The Gold before him was actually in a state of balance with the Evil Qi; as long as it wasn’t taken away, there wouldn’t be any problem.

But now that the Evil Qi had surfaced, this Gold began to mutate; Gu Xi even had the feeling that he would be devoured by this Gold.

”No, Kro, what are you doing?”

Gu Xi flew toward the small hole from just now while shouting loudly.

At the same time, with a wave of his hand, the White Bone Obelisk flew straight out of the Flame Light Six Paths Lamp this time and suppressed the cave.

Borrowing the Power of the White Bone Obelisk to press down the Evil Qi surging up from underground, Gu Xi then pushed his hand out again, and the horizontally opening and closing City Gate began to push forward.

Wherever this City Gate passed, all the Gold automatically rolled into Yalidu City.

This was exactly a little trick Blood God Son had taught Gu Xi for operating Death City; only, Blood God Son used the City Gate to release water outward, while Gu Xi was using the City Gate to scoop things inward.

This method was actually quite decent; by the time Gu Xi charged back to the small hole, one-tenth of the Gold had already been poured into the City Gate.

Gu Xi didn’t push any further; he was now more concerned about Kro’s safety.

With a flicker of his figure, he flew into the small hole.

As soon as he saw Kro, Gu Xi’s expression turned exceedingly grim.

At this moment Kro’s body was filled with Evil Qi condensed to the extreme; this Evil Qi had already materialized, and now Kro’s body was shrouded in dense black mist.

”Tell me what exactly you’ve done.”

”I didn’t do much, I just made a bit of trouble for those guys so they’d stop bothering me. I really didn’t expect something like this to happen.”

Kro still hadn’t noticed the changes on his own body; although he could vaguely tell something was off, he still answered quite earnestly.

”You call that ’a bit of trouble’? This is a huge problem.”

Gu Xi hurriedly twisted his hand, and the White Bone Obelisk settled above Kro’s head, temporarily suppressing the Evil Qi on his body.

Gu Xi then looked at the device Kro had been operating earlier and found that it was like it had gone mad, endlessly extracting Evil Qi from underground.

The Evil Qi was nearly condensed into liquid; it wouldn’t take long before this place filled to the brim with Evil Qi.

Gu Xi did not dare to stay here any longer; he grabbed Kro and flew upward.

Kro was also feeling uneasy now; he looked at Gu Xi. ”Say, Brother Gu, is something going to go wrong here?”

”Something has definitely gone wrong, but I still can’t see the full situation here. I’ll think of a way to draw the Evil Qi out of your body, but the road after that will probably be yours to walk alone.”

”Huh?”

”No ’huh’. Let’s get out of here first. The Evil Qi here is getting thicker by the moment; if we drag this out any longer, I’m afraid even the Evil Qi on you won’t be removable.”

As they spoke, Gu Xi had already dragged Kro out of the cave ahead.

As he burst out of the cave, Gu Xi couldn’t help being stunned.

Gu Xi had originally planned to rush out of the cave, retrieve the City Gate he had left inside, and leave this place quickly.

But once he came out and took a look, he was dumbfounded: thick Evil Qi was also rising from the ground outside this Golden Treasure Vault.

He really couldn’t figure out what exactly Kro had done.

In truth, Kro had gone rather hard this time.

The device he had discovered, just as he had previously told Gu Xi, was precisely the method for extracting the Earth Vein and converting it into Gold.

The Gold used to build the Golden Pillar back then was also obtained this way.

Only, the Golden Pillar was built for the stability of this world. Even though the Earth Vein had been extracted, once the world stabilized later, the Earth Vein regenerated. With this give and take, no Evil Qi clung to it; in some Immortal-type worlds, this might even have brought down world-opening merit.

After the Golden Pillar was completed, most of these devices were destroyed, with only a small portion sealed away.

This was to prevent the Earth Vein from being extracted again and converted to Gold.

However, in the Middle Ages, some Elf Race knew nothing about this.

They dug up this device and ended up using it to produce a large amount of Gold, which they used to decorate their forest; in the end, this Elf Race came to be known as the Golden Tree Elf.

Unfortunately, they paid no attention to what was happening inside this device.

Once Gold was tainted by Evil Qi, this Elf Race was destroyed because of the Gold. Afterward, the Gold spread to various places, and whoever came into contact with this Gold almost always met with total annihilation.

In the end, the forces who had come into contact with the Gold had no choice but to return all of it, and even pay back several times the original amount of Gold, only then was the Evil Qi pressed down.

This incident was recorded in Elf history as the Gold Curse.

However, Elf history was rarely read, and for Humans, Gold was far more important; no one took this Gold Curse as real.

Only a few neighboring countries had suffered from this firsthand and thus knew the truth. They found it hard to speak openly about the Gold Curse, so they could only say this was fake Gold and tell Kro not to touch this fake Gold anymore.

Yet when Kro was giving up on this excavation site, he discovered this device. At that time, he had already decided to abandon the site, so he hadn’t dug further into it.

He only used his own judgment to determine that this device originated from the era of the Ancient Hundred Races, perhaps even earlier.

This time, Kro had been attacked by the remnant clans of the Ancient Hundred Races, and he suspected the enemy came from around the Golden Pillar.

To ensure his future safety, Kro thought of this device, intending to use it to stir up something big.

At the very least, he wanted those Ancient Hundred Races people to pay more attention to other matters instead of focusing all their attention on him.

But Kro never expected that the switch he finally pressed was the restart switch for the sealed device.

Previously, even the Golden Tree Elf didn’t dare to fool around; they only used some of the device’s functions, slowly accumulating Gold.

Kro, however, pressed it purely with the mindset of ”let’s see what this switch does.”

As a result, the device fully activated at maximum power, which actually suited Kro’s intentions. For some time to come, the Earth Vein in this area would likely be drained, and the Evil Qi would become thick enough to destroy everything nearby.

It was even possible that Kro’s activation of this device would ultimately trigger other sealed devices. When that happened, that would be a true Celestial Calamity.

Facing such a situation, even if Gu Xi helped him clear away this bout of Evil Qi,

the Evil Qi would still come seeking Kro afterward, and no one knew what his final fate would be.

And all of this was something neither Gu Xi nor Kro knew at the moment.

Right now, Gu Xi only understood that Kro’s current condition was very dire, and he had to escape this place with him as soon as possible.
