Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Alu shook all over, looked at the female agent in disbelief, the female agent said nothing, just wrapped the person up again and took them away.

”Didn’t expect to pay off the debt so quickly, this Nightless City really is a place for overnight riches,” Gao Gong marveled.

”Well, just in time to go to the Prosthetic Black Market. Having the blueprint alone isn’t enough to create a prosthetic body.”

Gao Gong looked at the time, rubbing his chin.

”Made some money, just in time to treat my newly found little sister to a big meal.”

...

The sky over Nightless City remained misty, neon lights glittering brightly. After wandering around the prosthetic market for a while, Gao Gong found that the variety of weapons here was surprisingly fewer than in the Iron Sand Desert, but the range of different prosthetic plug-ins was rich indeed.

Gao Gong focused on browsing a chip store, finding that the chip prices were indeed outrageously expensive—a regular implant chip would cost 200,000 Mechanic Points.

Gao Gong hesitated for a moment but ultimately gave up on buying chips, instead purchasing a set of Cyber Network equipment, including a set of Type 4 Flying Bird Network Access Chamber. He’d been in Nightless City for three days; it was about time to have some fun in the Cyber Network.

He remembered clearly that several hidden tasks were to be collected in the Cyber Network.

Including the ’Cyber Hacker’ career change task.

In theory, being a Cyber Hacker couldn’t be a Sub-Profession.

Because accessing the Network Access Chamber required special modifications.

After this kind of modification, you’d basically have to say goodbye to melee professions.

But it wasn’t completely impossible.

For example, with direct Electronic Enlightenment from a high-level Big Data Monster.

On the way back, Gao Gong passed through the Business District. The environment of this district was orderly, with drones and security personnel patrolling everywhere, visible safety ensured.

Even the unemployed people stranded on the streets had their tents arranged neatly.

One long queue was job seekers, while another was unemployed workers holding cardboard boxes. The scene was not lively at all, but extraordinarily quiet.

Every company has its own armed department, so do you know who those drone gun muzzles are prepared for?

Gao Gong wandered around several biotechnology companies, sensing that these companies didn’t have Genetic Fusion entities at level 30.

’Looks like I need to visit the branch of the Biological Mutation Association, there should be clues about Genetic Fusions there.’

Gao Gong rubbed his chin and was about to head back when a dirty arm suddenly grabbed him.

”Mechanic brother, what a coincidence!”

Gao Gong turned his head, looked at this grimy beggar, and after staring for a while, uncertainly asked: ”Manager brother?”

”It’s me, come, come, I’ll show you my mansion. Look, here’s the gate, here’s the garage, there are over twenty luxury cars inside, oh right, let me show you the swimming pool, the water here is so clean...”

As he watched the other seriously introduce him to a doghouse, Gao Gong stared into his eyes—muddy and empty.

These are the symptoms of personality confusion after Neural Transformation.

He hadn’t actually heard of ’Virtual Real Estate’ as a company.

But he indeed knew how to ’build a house’ in Cyber Space.

Simply put, the human brain is a house.

Neural signals are ’bricks’, neural circuits are the ’house structure’, brain components are the ’guest rooms’, ’bedrooms’, ’bathrooms’.

In the ’Manager brother’s’ mind, maybe there really was such a villa.

But the property of this villa wasn’t his; it was registered under the name of ’Virtual Real Estate’.

Virtual Real Estate doesn’t just sell houses, they also acquire second-hand houses for lease.

”I told you, I’d do well in Nightless City!” The manager brother was smug.

”Congratulations then.”

...

”Dean, I’m leaving.”

”Leaving so early today,” the Dean Auntie said with a smile.

”Yeah, going back today to have dinner with my brother.”

”Since when did you have a brother? Are you seeing someone?”

”No,” Gao Yuanyuan blushed and waved her hand, ”he’s my guardian.”

”You signed that agreement, didn’t I say I’d think of a way for your family’s debt?” The Dean said seriously, ”What if the guardian who adopts you is a bad person?”

”No, brother is a good person, not talking about it, I’m leaving first.”

Watching Gao Yuanyuan’s departing figure, the Dean’s face gradually turned serious, pondering as she walked into the Welfare Institute.

The Welfare Institute at night was deserted.

...

Gao Gong met Gao Yuanyuan at the entrance of Hanging Street and took her to have a synthetic meal outside.

During the meal, Gao Gong thought for a moment and told her he had performed surgery for a wealthy person and made a lot of money, so she wouldn’t have to worry about the family’s debt anymore.

”I’ll pay you back for this money,” Gao Yuanyuan seemed a bit uneasy.

”It’s nothing, what’s our relationship? We’re like siblings from different parents. If you really feel guilty, all the housework is yours in the future.”

”Mhm!!”

Gao Yuanyuan earnestly nodded her head.

Night

Gao Gong was fiddling with his ’network equipment,’ originally planning to go online tonight, but since it was Nightless City’s ’Garbage Disposal Day,’ he gave up on that idea.

He opened the window only to see tens of thousands of Mechanical Eyeliners flying about in chaos, with their scarlet Electronic Eyes flashing randomly.

One of them noticed Gao Gong standing at the window and floated over. Its electronic radiance scanned over Gao Gong, and after a few blinks of its fist-sized Electronic Eye, it quickly moved away.

On another street, however, came screams and footstep noises, with many Mechanical Eyeliners rushing over.

’Garbage Disposal Day,’ also known as ’Population Disposal Day.’

Any black-listed individuals without formal identities would be thoroughly cleared.

Entering Nightless City wasn’t that impressive.

Being able to stay here was the real accomplishment.

”Level 20 small Mechanical Life, though not elite, the amount is really quite large.”

Gao Gong ’tsk-tsk’ed twice, shut the window, and with a movement of his ear, heard sounds coming from the bedroom.

With a thought, his arm dropped, transforming into a mass of blood-colored liquid, and slid into the room through a gap.

On the bed, Gao Yuanyuan’s sleeping posture was very obedient, lying flat under the covers.

However, large eyes like Zhenzi’s opened in the dark, with a sinister laugh escaping from her mouth.

”Heh heh heh, that fool, using his kindness, I can use him to repay the debt.”

”Kill him, disguise it as a murder, then move away, so nobody would come after the debt.”

The large eyes quickly filled with tears again.

”Dad, Mom, why do you have to haunt me, I’ve been very good already.”

”Don’t find sister, she’s not here. Don’t bully her, she’s fierce.”

Gao Gong leaned back against the wall, chuckling to himself.

”I said, a girl surviving on Hanging Street couldn’t possibly be normal.”
