Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

’As a good citizen of Nightless City, which type of people do you worry about the most: roaming colonial exiles turned killers, vagabond motorcycle gangs wreaking havoc, or cult worshippers? And now, the answer is revealed…’

’The Evil Gang announces control over Dalong Street, Counterfeit Street, and Electronic Street. Their spokesperson claims that the Evil Gang is an idealistic organization, aiming to break the illusionary utopian society and save the whole world from the Cyber Network.’

’Beautiful Interconnection Company announces that the new ’Moral Module’ has proven its function. If the council passes this bill, they will provide all citizens with this type of Personality Chip for free, effectively reducing the crime rate in Nightless City.’

’Regarding the effect of the Moral Module, what do the two guests think?’

”Doctor, what do you think of me?”

Gao Gong turned his head to look at his patient, a woman in her thirties.

The reason he preferred watching TV over looking at the woman was mostly because she was indeed unremarkable.

”Ms. Zhao, I am the Prosthetic Doctor, not an emotional counseling expert. You ask me how to win back your husband’s heart; I’m really at a loss here.”

”Doctor, please help me,” Ms. Zhao looked desperate.

Gao Gong sighed, glanced at the clock, noticing there were only ten minutes left until his next appointment, deciding to settle this quickly.

”Alright, long story short, your husband stays away from home for years; are you sure he’s having an affair?”

”Yes, he often goes to that flesh rental club. They’ve even sent the bills home.”

As far as Gao Gong knows, flesh rental clubs mainly offer two types of services: one is customized bionic men, specially modified bodies that provide clients with experiences beyond limits.

The other is body leasing, where some people sign agreements to turn off their bodies and implant a ’temporary virtual personality,’ renting themselves to the club. This kind of short-term lease is a way to earn extra, especially popular among married people.

The main advantage of this lease is that when you wake up, you remember nothing.

”None of those; my husband has recently been obsessed with the body-sensation sharing machine.”

”Oh? These clubs even have that now; that’s a mental affair.”

As far as Gao Gong knows, such sharing machines allow people to share experiences at certain moments. You can choose the boyfriend’s perspective, husband’s perspective, girlfriend’s perspective, or even dual experiences.

”He said we’ve lost our initial charm, and only in others’ love can he recall our past.”

”So, you want to win back your husband’s heart?”

”Yes.”

Gao Gong stroked his chin, studying the other.

”Then I have two personal suggestions you can consider.”

”Hmm!”

”First, you can bring your husband here; I can perform a ’loyalty to love’ type of neural transformation on him, making his body secrete phenylethylamine and dopamine as soon as he sees you. You know, the effect of these two substances combined is akin to love.”

”Hmm hmm.”

”Second.”

Gao Gong looked at her bottomless chest.

”This has been modified, hasn’t it? A small modification is still a modification, and a major one is too. You can choose the most popular first-love-style skin on the market, and I’ll adjust it to look like you did in your youth.”

”Think it over.”

”Alright, thank you, Doctor.”

Gao Gong sighed with relief, having gotten rid of the clingy woman, and pressed the alarm.

”Next.”

A few seconds later, a short figure wrapped up tightly walked in, sat down without saying a word.

Gao Gong looked at the other’s large sunglasses, paused for a moment, then said:

”What’s wrong with you?”

The other said nothing, handing over a confidentiality agreement instead.

”A confidentiality agreement? And it’s an official agreement from the Mechanical Main Brain.”

If this was signed, it would be like registering with the Mechanical Main Brain.

”Remember to close the door on your way out, thank you.”

Gao Gong resolutely refused.

The business for Prosthetic Doctors was still thriving; just two days after opening, clients poured in, not worth giving up the forest for a tree that might cause trouble.

The other person hesitated, then spoke.

”Not signing the confidentiality agreement is fine, but you must swear to keep it confidential.”

The voice was soft, sounded like a cute girl.

”Alright, but it’ll cost extra,” Gao Gong said without lifting his head.

This time, Gao Gong finally raised his head, seriously examining the other person for a while before saying: ”You’re so wealthy, why not look for corporate Prosthetic Transformers? They’re more professional and willing to sign confidentiality agreements with you.”

”Confidentiality agreements aren’t everything; I’ve asked around, and you’re the only one nearby who can do biological transformation.”

Gao Gong thought about it; he had indeed mentioned before that besides prosthetic transformations, he excelled in biological transformations.

But that was merely a casual comment, not expected to be used.

This is Nightless City, no Radiation Beasts here.

”Alright, first take off your coat.”

The other nodded, took off her sunglasses, then untied her hat and scarf, revealing an unbelievably exquisite face and signature pink hair.

”Virtual Idol Aidoru!”

It wasn’t that Gao Gong was chasing celebrities, mainly that he had a vivid impression of that thick mosaic.

”You’re a real person?” Gao Gong looked her up and down, expressing significant surprise.
