Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

The Desolate Desert is distinctly different from the other five deserts.

If the other deserts are merely names, then the Desolate Desert truly lives up to its name, with yellow sands stretching as far as the eye can see, often without a single oasis in sight for hundreds of miles.

More importantly, the radiation concentration here is the highest among all deserts.

Ordinary life forms simply cannot survive within it.

On the watchtower of a small desert town, the Sheriff, wearing a hat that covers his face and wrapped tightly all over, with only two eyes exposed, is staring into the distance.

A gigantic caravan is on the move.

A flash of greed passes through his eyes, but seeing the thick holsters around the waists of these people, he quickly regains his calm, and the thought of a certain legend makes him shudder. He hurries to open the gate.

This strange caravan walks in.

Many people are discussing and whispering.

This godforsaken place, why have so many people come recently?

How did those warlords from the Land of Flames let people go?

In a gasoline hotel that was rented out, a graceful figure finishes arranging the convoy, stands at the door, lifts a veil, revealing a captivating face. Three pairs of electronic eyes scan around, casting a charming smile at the fortune seekers outside the door, then walks inside.

”Who are these people, how are they so wealthy?”

”They rented out four hotels outright, could they be the exploration team from the Mechanical City?”

”Don’t mess with them, remember the troublemakers who came a few days ago? They were hung up on the wall and left to die.”

Upon entry, you see the Little Woman lying on the table like a dead dog, belly exposed, a short leg weakly swaying, sipping through a straw, the other end of which is in a metal bucket filled with cold water.

”Hot, so hot, going to die, Daisila come back,” the Little Woman weakly says.

”Hmm, you’ve been here almost half a month, why haven’t you adapted?”

”How could I adapt, this is a real desert, I feel like I’ll eventually die from the heat here.”

Daisila shakes her head, picks up the Little Woman, intending to find Boss Du.

However, the sound of sizzling barbecue suddenly arises.

Huang Yuanli’s eyes widen sharply, quickly crawls out from Daisila’s arms, teary-eyed, ”Daisila, are you trying to burn me alive!”

On the Little Woman’s waist is a circle of red marks, with some signs of scorching.

Daisila looks at her own transformed arm in shock, discovering that at some point, her mechanical body has been sunburned like a squid on an iron plate. She hastily apologizes.

”Sorry, sorry, my heatproof coating has probably been used up, I’ll go do a liquid cooling treatment first, then go find Boss Du later.”

Daisila hurriedly exits, finding a girl with a Mohican haircut in another rented gasoline tavern.

Several Mechanical Hunters surround the girl, and seeing Daisila approaching, they greet her with gritted teeth.

”Supervisor, you’re here to cool down too.”

”In this heat, my transformed arm exploded within ten minutes.”

”You lasted ten minutes, impressive, I jammed within five minutes.”

Daisila helplessly shakes her head, ”Alright, the toughest site selection work is over, you’ll be transferred to Base No. 2, which lies between the Desolate Desert and the Green Desert, the environment there is much better, hang in there a bit longer.”

”By the way, Captain Sunx Hong’s team was attacked by Ancient Robots at the Ancient Battlefield, do you know, Supervisor?”

Daisila hesitates, ”When did this happen?”

”Yesterday, apparently they were attacked while transporting radiation power panels, no casualties, just a few Mechanical Beasts dead.”

”Ancient Robots? How many, how big, how’s the firepower?”

”Uh, not sure, but they shouldn’t be too strong, after all, it’s just old relics from the Civilization Era, just being operable is good enough.”

”Hard to say, it might just be a treasure left by aliens, had I known, I might have gone and struck it rich.”

”Forget it, it’s been so many years, if they’re really alien robots, it wouldn’t be our turn, they’d have been dug up by those fortune seekers long ago.”

Fortune seekers are essentially upgraded ’Scavengers,’ who roam the Ancient Battlefield, living off excavating the relics there.

For items excavated from the Ancient Battlefield, both enterprises and factories offer a pretty penny, so they live much better than the average scavengers.

After some idle chatter, it’s quickly Daisila’s turn. In front of her, Helli Wild inspects carefully, surprised, ”Several biological parts have burned out, Supervisor, what have you been up to?”

”Just investigating a few things, had a fight with those gene group people, can it be repaired?”

”I’m afraid I can’t fix it, we’ll have to wait for the old man to come,” Helli says a bit awkwardly.

Helli Wild, daughter of Old Wilder, even at a young age, is already a skilled prosthetic repair technician.

Since witnessing a certain someone’s craftsmanship, awestruck, she persistently sought to learn, although Gao Gong did not accept her as a disciple, he openly shared his skills, now she is considered half a Prosthetic Doctor.

She calls Gao Gong ”the old man” because, in their hometown, ”the old man” is another term for a master.

”Forget it, just give me a cooling treatment first.”

Helli shyly sticks out her tongue, connects a ’Mechanical Body Condensing Tube,’ turns it on, Daisila puts her arm inside, and a burst of freezing white mist ’hisses’ forth.

It’s not that prosthetics have no sensation at all. In fact, as long as they’re adjusted, whether mechanical or biological, they don’t differ much from a normal person’s limbs.

However, humans have a threshold for pain, and to make combat easier, Mechanical Hunters often choose to set tactile sensations to their lowest.

So, after freezing, the biggest sensation Daisila felt was that her arm was more ’smooth’.

After injecting the coolant into the mechanical body, Helli opened up the skin and applied a high-temperature sunblock treatment to the mechanical parts, simply put, she applied a layer of sunblock.

Looking at the dense network of mechanical pipes, Helli said enviously, ”When will I be able to create this level of mechanical body.”

”That would take a long time,” Daisila chuckled.

In her opinion, the hunting transformation that could surpass the limits of a Mechanical Hunter was practically miraculous, absolutely not something an average person could master.

After cooling down her arms and thighs, Daisila refused further cooling from Helli.

After all, she wasn’t very confident in this young girl’s craftsmanship.

”Let’s have a drink sometime, my Spider Hunter template isn’t just for combat functions, you know.”

After saying goodbye to Helli, Daisila finally found Du Zhaodi, whose skin had tanned to a wheat color under the sun, looking even healthier.

”You’re back,” Director Du said without lifting her head.

”Yes.”

Daisila walked to the desk and picked up an industrial design blueprint for a ’processing plant’, with a thick stack of designs like it on the desk.

Many times, Daisila admired this person’s energy and capability. If she became a Mechanical Hunter, perhaps she could become the strongest female hunter in history.

However, becoming a Mechanical Hunter would be wasting her talents.

The Oasis has no so-called area limits.

But logistical supplies, population, and infrastructure dictate that the Oasis usually isn’t very large. If the main part reaches the size of a small town, and the radiation area covers a county, that’s already quite good.

But in Director Du’s plans, their Oasis would cover nearly one-third of the Desolate Desert.

Base No. 1 near the Ancient Battlefield, Base No. 2 near the Blue Desert, and the soon-to-be designated Base No. 3.

These three bases form three corners, and everything within this triangle can be considered the domain of the ’Cable Oasis.’

The Radiation Power Plant under construction, the Water Plant, the Nutrition Paste Processing Plant, the Mechanical Repair Factory, the Prosthetic Factory, along with crisscrossing oil channels, pure water channels, and the planned reactivation of the ancient subway.

This lady is aiming to turn this Desolate Desert into another ’Factory System.’

A real iron lady.

Daisila licked her lips and picked up a photo frame, showing Director Du and a certain man with his arm around her shoulder, and Director Du smiling shyly.

Quite different from the decisive persona she displayed at work.

Being maintained by a Rich Lady sure is nice.

Daisila mused to herself as the photo frame slipped from her hands.

”How’s the investigation going?” Director Du asked. Apart from business, the only thing that could concern her so much was a certain young admirer.

”Well, I found out, and even got into a fight with them,” Daisila smiled. ”They were stronger than I imagined.”

The radiation in the Desolate Desert far exceeds other Radiation Zones, which also makes the natives here stronger than elsewhere.

If the upper limit for other desert natives is level 10,

Then here, the native limit is level 20.

Renowned warlord factions in the desert are all distributed in this area.

Especially the Land of Flames, which could be considered the headquarters of native warlords.

And the mastermind who nearly killed Gao Gong at the Great Rift Valley was one of these native warlords.

The God of Radiation and Gunpowder!

You can tell it’s not ordinary arrogance just from the name.

But Director Du just nodded expressionlessly and said, ”Just as well, our cash flow is running low. These people can be used as free labor.”

Just as Gao Gong planned to use players as free labor, Director Du also planned to use the warlords’ subordinates as free labor.

The resources consumed in constructing a Machine System are astronomical.

Director Du not only staked all the Beast Tide’s profits but also staked the next three years’ Energy Annihilation Agent profits.

Of course, all of this was worth it because by leveraging her connections, Director Du secured three combat robot production lines from the ’factory.’

If all goes well, in less than a year, Gao Gong will have three continuously producing mechanical legions.

This is what prosperous business means!

”I’ve already sent people to monitor them, we can act when the boss returns,” Daisila hesitated for a moment, then said, ”But when I came back, I heard a news, the boss, it seems, suddenly became a live-in son-in-law of the Public Security Corps.”
