Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 792: Chapter 595: Light

After the Easter egg event, the scene was in chaos, and the banquet could no longer continue.

The injured students who fell to the ground were carried away by staff on stretchers, with the severely injured receiving immediate treatment from a Therapist.

”A bunch of failures.”

The instructors also gradually left, and Gustav cursed loudly, laughing as he descended the stairs.

Although the Easter egg event was a spur-of-the-moment idea, he never anticipated that his students would be so unlucky, failing to obtain even a single Easter egg.

He wasn’t really distressed; the items were meant for the students, and luck played a crucial role in receiving them. His students possessed strength but lacked speed, so coming away empty-handed wasn’t surprising; it was just embarrassing.

”Haha.”

Gustav’s complaints drew laughter from the other instructors.

Among them, Alice was the happiest.

Because her student, Lin Feng, acquired two Easter eggs, emerging as the biggest winner of the evening.

These two Easter eggs would increase Lin Feng’s chances of becoming a King by at least thirty percent.

Perhaps soon, even she wouldn’t be able to compete with Lin Feng.

”No need to be so delighted.”

Just as Alice was feeling joyful, a cold voice came from behind, causing her body to stiffen slightly.

In the next moment, a foul odor wafted in; Alfonso appeared beside Alice.

”So what if he becomes a King? He’s just another King. Do you innocently believe that a King dares to challenge me? Can compete with me?”

As he spoke, his steps did not pause, as if he were simply passing by.

Gradually, Alice stopped walking, watching Alfonso’s figure recede, a smile appearing on her face.

She was certain that Alfonso was beginning to worry.

If he truly didn’t care, he wouldn’t have needed to say those things to her.

Lin Feng alone might not concern Alfonso, but what if it’s the Avengers Alliance?

As for whether Lin Feng would stand up for her, Alice hadn’t considered it, because it wasn’t something she could decide.

All she could do was her best; the rest was up to fate.

The Easter egg event was a sudden impulse from Gustav, happening unexpectedly. There were no photographers present; fortunately, the cameras scattered throughout the banquet hall captured the whole process.

To not turn such an exciting competition into a special episode would be lamentable.

The production team is working overtime to prepare a delightful ”Easter egg” for the audiences worldwide the next day.

...

The roar of demon beasts echoed in the ears, and the sky was filled with the sound of whistling.

Fifteen-year-old Su Xiao looked up, and through the thick smoke, vaguely saw three or four missiles flying overhead. Twenty-odd seconds later, the deafening sound of explosions reached his ears, the smell of gunpowder in the air was even more intense and choking, making it hard to breathe.

”Speed up, speed up.”

The soldier’s voice urged everyone to quicken their pace, causing the elderly and weak to start jogging. All around were the sounds of urgent panting; no one dared to stop, even if their feet were blistered, even if they were exhausted.

In the wild, surrounded by demon beasts, stopping meant falling behind.

Falling behind meant death.

”Do you want some water?”

His mother’s voice came from beside him, and Su Xiao promptly said, ”No, Mom, don’t speak.”

His throat was obviously hoarse, and speaking only made it hurt.

He really wanted to drink water, feeling like he could drink several bottles, but there wasn’t much water left.

”Mm.”

His mother agreed softly, saying no more.

Su Xiao stretched his body, moved his sore shoulders a bit.

His shoulders bore a large backpack containing some daily necessities and two blankets; as for clothing, to lighten the load, he had already discarded it along the way.

He tightly held his mother’s hand, not daring to let go.

Around him were countless people, and if he let go, a careless move could mean he’d never find her again.

On the road, his father died.

Now, he only had his mother left.

While on the move, faint sounds of sobbing reached him, and the atmosphere was suffocatingly oppressive.

The team heading to Jiang City originally numbered forty thousand, but now only more than ten thousand remained. The soldiers protecting them had also suffered heavy casualties.

”Boom!”

Artillery fire occasionally erupted, clearing obstacles for them. The proximity was just a few kilometers away, making the ground’s violent tremors and shock waves distinctly felt.

Such sounds of artillery were initially terrifying to them, but now they had grown accustomed.

Su Xiao and his mother didn’t know how long they had been walking, nor how far they had come, merely plodding on numbly; fortunately, the air wasn’t as choking as before.

”How much longer do we need to walk?”

”Damn it, why are so many space gates closing? Are the people of the base city humans while those in the satellite city meant to die?”

”Rather than being eaten by demon beasts, I’d rather be killed by Abnormal People; at least one might survive a few more years.”

”Can we even make it to Jiang City?”

The death of family, the fear of death, and physical exhaustion led to poor mental states, pushing people to the brink of collapse.

Complaints, curses, and roaring were unending.

They were angry, they were unwilling, but could only accept this unfair treatment.

They could curse, but lacked the power to fight back.

Su Xiao didn’t shout in anger, but his face was gloomy, his eyes slightly reddened, filled with rage and reluctance.

Because of a decision by the World Alliance, thirty thousand people from Tiannan City were displaced, and along the way, his father died, their home was lost, and the future direction was unknown.

Live or die!

How could one not be angry?

How could one not despair?

”Don’t complain, the same is true nationwide, even worldwide, it’s not just us from Tiannan.”

”Hold on a bit longer, we’re almost there.”

”Jiang City is less than thirty kilometers away.”

”Those soldiers and Guardians are still protecting us, suffering heavy casualties too, but they haven’t abandoned us.”

”Tiannan is close to Jiang City, so there’s hope. Satellite cities farther away must be suffering worse.”

Just when the atmosphere was oppressive and emotions were nearing the breaking point, some began to comfort everyone, mostly among the older folks.

Their physical strength wasn’t as good as the younger ones, but their mentality was more stable, understanding that complaints were pointless and would only exacerbate the oppressive and desperate atmosphere.

”Don’t talk about those discouraging things. Did you watch the mentor competition yesterday?”

Someone began to change the topic, and it worked well, easing the oppressive atmosphere.

”I watched it. I watched it twice on my phone.”

”Me too, my phone was out of battery after watching.”

”I watched it three times. If I didn’t have to travel, I could watch it all night.”

”Ye Xing’s Third Frenzy was absolutely stunning!”

”Dong, didn’t you say that this time during the mentor assessment, half of the Avengers Alliance would be eliminated? You got slapped in the face, didn’t you?”

”Haha, indeed slapped in the face, my face is all swollen!”

Whenever there’s a discussion about the King Becoming project or the Avengers Alliance, it always resonates with people, regardless of age, gender, profession, or status; there’s always enthusiastic conversation.

The anger in Su Xiao’s eyes slowly faded, replaced by a certain radiance.

That was the radiance of admiration.

He was a fan of Lin Feng, and a dedicated supporter of the Avengers Alliance.

Any information about the Avengers Alliance, he could recite it backwards.

Initially, it was just fan admiration for an idol, but gradually, admiration became a kind of faith, a belief.

In his view, the Avengers Alliance was the savior of the future. Even if in many people’s eyes, it’s just self-hypnosis, self-consolation, he deeply believed it.

It was this glimmer of hope and spiritual support that prevented a painful life from becoming despairing.

”Rest here.”

It wasn’t until evening that the group stopped moving forward.

”Mom, rest a bit.”

Su Xiao spoke to his mother and sat directly on the ground, not caring about whether it was dirty.

His face was pitch black from the smoke of artillery, and his body was not much cleaner than the ground.

Traveling all day had left him exhausted and starving. If he could, he would lie down immediately.

”Mm, have some water first, then eat something later.”

Mom Su said with some heartache, twisting open the cap of a bottle of mineral water and handing it to Su Xiao.

”You drink first.”

Su Xiao said to his mother.

They didn’t have much water left, only about three bottles of mineral water. For the past few days, his mother hadn’t drunk much, and her lips were cracked.

”Alright.”

Mom Su took a small sip and then gave the mineral water to Su Xiao.

”If you don’t drink, I won’t either.”

Su Xiao forced his mother to drink a few more sips before taking the bottle, which was now less than half full. Resisting the urge to gulp it down, he drank slowly, sip by sip.

The water wasn’t much, nor was the food. They didn’t know how many days they would have to walk, so they had to conserve it.

After drinking some water and having a simple bread, Su Xiao felt a bit sleepy.

Nighttime was for resting; it was too dark to see the road, and they didn’t have the energy to keep traveling.

”Look, there’s an Easter egg!”

Just as Su Xiao was about to take out his quilt and prepare to sleep, someone suddenly exclaimed.

Easter egg?

Su Xiao was bewildered.

He complained inwardly about how the person was making a fuss and disturbing others’ sleep at night.

Initially, he didn’t care, but as more and more people exclaimed, and the words ”King Becoming project” were vaguely heard, he realized it immediately, hurriedly taking out his phone and pressing the power button.

His phone had 30% battery left, and although he had a power bank, it was dead from travel.

According to his plan, he wouldn’t turn it back on until the third phase of the King Becoming project.

”There really is an Easter egg!”

On the official website of the ”King Becoming project,” there was a notification about the ’Easter egg,’ but it wasn’t the third phase; rather, it was a special program, an Easter egg specifically for the audience.

It would start precisely at eight, one hour later.

The exhausted people quietly waited, no matter how sleepy they were, fighting off the urge to sleep.

An hour later, the special program called the ”Easter egg” began to air.

The duration was very short, only half an hour, but under the production team’s brilliant editing, it was constantly intense and thrilling, filled with suspense.

”No wonder he’s the Child of Light!”

From the very beginning, Alex, the ”Child of Light,” was the center of attention. His terrifying speed and the body technique transforming him into a comet elicited exclamations.

Other students who received the Easter egg were also very strong, not much inferior to Alex. There were also two incredibly lucky ones for whom the Easter egg practically ”delivered to their doorstep.” And some caught the Easter egg but got ambushed and ended up empty-handed and injured.

Ultimately, until the last moment, it was impossible to tell who would win the Easter egg.

”Why is Lin Feng blowing bubbles the whole time?”

”Why doesn’t he contest for the Easter egg? What’s he up to?”

”Feels like he’s planning something big...”

In the 30-minute duration, the atmosphere began to stir after 15 minutes, because Lin Feng appeared.

Among them, just the footage of Lin Feng alone lasted five minutes.

Out of 555 students, Lin Feng alone took up a sixth of the time, almost turning it into his solo showcase.

And the showcase was extraordinarily dazzling.

After blowing bubbles for three to four minutes, Lin Feng began his performance, looking as if he were freely wandering and walking in the void, which was astonishingly cool.

If it weren’t for fear of attracting the attention of demon beasts, the oppressed people would’ve screamed to release their stress and fatigue.

”Lin Feng’s Combined Soul Skills are amazing.”

”People on the bullet screen are saying this is an unprecedented Body Series.”

”Lin Feng possesses two Origin Powers, perhaps it won’t be long before he becomes a King.”

”A 22-year-old King, truly unimaginable!”

Su Xiao fixated on his phone, his eyes filled with light.

Mom Su sat beside her son, accompanying him in watching the program, feeling her son’s admiration and excitement.

She was just a housewife, not understanding what Demon Spirits were or how impressive Lin Feng’s soul skill combination was.

She only knew that her son greatly admired that young man named Lin Feng.

She was rather thankful to Lin Feng, grateful that during her son’s darkest days, he provided a sliver of precious light.
