Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 784: Chapter 588: Xie Yixiao’s Regret

The mentor evaluation has ended.

mentors, each accepting 15 apprentices, a total of 555 apprentices successfully found mentorship.

Each apprentice can bring a helper, totaling 1110 apprentices with mentors.

There were 1751 participants in the mentor evaluation, meaning 641 people were eliminated.

More than one-third were cut.

Those who succeeded in finding a mentor were visibly joyous, even if some didn’t find their ideal mentor, as long as they weren’t eliminated, they still had a chance to become a King.

Finding a mentor is just a learning process.

Success in mentorship doesn’t guarantee one will become a King; there will still be competition and elimination to face later on.

The expressions of those who failed the evaluation varied.

One kind failed the evaluation but is already someone’s helper, guaranteed to follow along for mentorship like Dong Yunan.

People like this looked relaxed and were similarly happy.

Another kind was like Xie Yixiao.

Failed the evaluation, unable to become someone’s helper, with an expression of dejection and sadness.

It was hard to earn a spot to participate in the King Becoming Plan, risking life and limb, going through hardships to reach this step, just one step away from becoming a King.

Even though they failed the evaluation, they weren’t in despair.

Because some have succeeded in finding a mentor but haven’t yet decided on a helper.

There should be dozens of such cases; those about to be eliminated are searching for them.

At this time, Xie Yixiao was making one last effort, but after asking over ten people, he was ruthlessly rejected each time.

Some even mocked him for overestimating himself.

Being repeatedly rejected, the despairing Xie Yixiao finally found Ye Xing.

At this time, the evaluation had ended, and Ye Xing was chatting with others.

Those who successfully found mentorship under Gustav were top experts from around the world, the cream of the crop among participants.

Among them was Aleksey, who had already become a King, Kitahara, a Half-Step King, and although Ye Xing’s strength was at the bottom, no one dared to underestimate him because he could enter Frenzy three times.

Mentorship was successful, and the mentors still had some arrangements to make later. While waiting, everyone gathered in small groups to chat.

Xie Yixiao saw Chen Junhao, and although Chen Junhao noticed him, he directly looked away, as if seeing a stranger.

”You bastard.”

Xie Yixiao’s eyes flashed with a trace of resentment.

Chen Junhao abandoned him, turned around to cooperate with others, and although Xie Yixiao was unwilling, he wasn’t angry.

To ensure a successful mentorship, other participants also formed strong alliances.

If he were in their place, he would do the same.

People act for their own interests; otherwise, they’re doomed.

He resented Chen Junhao’s heartlessness, just sending a text message to inform him, only five words, and not even willing to tell him face-to-face.

Afterwards, when they met, there wasn’t a shred of guilt.

He wasn’t even willing to pretend.

Faced with Chen Junhao’s heartlessness, he had no other means to vent except cursing inwardly.

Not as strong as others, and now that Chen Junhao had found mentorship with Gustav, he would probably become a King soon, making any chance of revenge impossible.

”Yi Xiao, how’s it going?”

Seeing Xie Yixiao, Ye Xing’s eyes flashed with surprise, and he stepped forward to ask.

Since joining the Avengers Alliance, he hadn’t kept in touch with Xie Yixiao.

Xie Yixiao seemed to be blaming him. Sometimes when he sent messages to Xie Yixiao, the replies were cold and distant.

Gradually, they lost contact.

He hadn’t paid attention to whether Xie Yixiao had succeeded in finding a mentor. Among thousands of participants, it was hard to keep track, but odds were Xie Yixiao had failed.

Many participants at the Peak of Ninth Grade also failed, let alone Xie Yixiao, who only had Eighth Grade strength.

Compared to competitors, Xie Yixiao was indeed too young.

Some participants were two or three times their age.

If he hadn’t joined the Avengers Alliance, he wouldn’t have succeeded in finding a mentor himself.

”Brother Ye!”

Xie Yixiao smiled at Ye Xing, a hint of bitterness in his smile: ”I failed, failed consecutively in seven evaluations.”

”You’re still young; it’s normal not to pass the evaluation.”

Ye Xing patted Xie Yixiao’s shoulder with his right hand, comforting him: ”This time, 641 people were to be eliminated; the elimination rate was too high. I was the fifteenth to succeed in finding a mentor, and I just barely made it.”

Seeing that Xie Yixiao’s mood was still low, Ye Xing continued to encourage him: ”With your strength and talent, you can still participate in the second King Becoming Plan; I’m sure you’ll succeed in finding a mentor then.”

”Is there a second one?” Xie Yixiao asked, with a self-deprecating tone.

”How could there not be? If there’s a first one, there’ll be a second one,” Ye Xing said.

Xie Yixiao didn’t refute.

Even if there really was a second King Becoming Plan, it would be years later, and the resources and benefits couldn’t compare to this one.

He was unwilling.

If he hadn’t participated in the first one, he might look forward to the second.

But he had participated; how could he patiently wait?

”Brother Ye, I want to become your helper.”

Xie Yixiao’s expression changed, hesitating for a moment before speaking.

Ye Xing was slightly stunned and then shook his head, saying: ”Yi Xiao, that’s not something I can decide.”

”Brother Ye, help me, I’ll follow you for five years.”

Xie Yixiao stared intently at Ye Xing, his eyes slightly red. If he weren’t at his wit’s end, if he weren’t unwilling, his pride wouldn’t have allowed him to come and ask Ye Xing for help.

He was dissatisfied with Ye Xing not informing him about his decision to retire and the distancing after joining the Avengers Alliance. As the Avengers Alliance became world-renowned, he became envious.

This was why he didn’t keep in touch with Ye Xing afterwards.

”I joined the Avengers Alliance; this really isn’t something I can decide,” Ye Xing said.

”I know you still have vacant helper spots.”

Hearing this, Ye Xing smiled wryly.

As Xie Yixiao said, they indeed had vacant spots.

The Avengers Alliance had seventeen people participating in the King Becoming Plan; ten successfully found mentorship, leaving three helper spots. Originally, they planned for only nine to find mentorship, leaving one spot; the Gongshan Siblings finding mentorship with Gui Ling was unexpected.

”I can pay; I still have nine billion New Coins, just treat it as selling it to me.”

Seeing Ye Xing’s troubled expression, Xie Yixiao resisted the feeling of humiliation and continued.

”Sigh.”

Ye Xing sighed lightly.

Faced with Xie Yixiao’s pleading and hopeful eyes, he couldn’t bear it. After all, they were brothers who spent five years together daily.

He always considered Xie Yixiao a younger brother, but their different philosophies had caused them to drift apart.

”The leader of the Avengers Alliance is Lin Feng; he makes all the decisions,” Ye Xing said.

The extra three spots wouldn’t be left empty for nothing; they’d be sold to someone, but definitely not to Xie Yixiao.

”In the Rookie Challenge, you were too harsh on Yun Kai.”

Ye Xing straightforwardly revealed this, not wanting to give Xie Yixiao false hope.

As the darling of the Avengers Alliance, Yun Kai being bullied so badly back then, there were plenty who wanted to deal with Xie Yixiao.

In the Alliance, you could bully anyone, even Lin Feng, but not Yun Kai.

It was already fortunate that no one had retaliated against Xie Yixiao until now.

Having Lin Feng’s group agree to let Xie Yixiao become a helper was nearly impossible.

Ye Xing didn’t want to make that request either.

Xie Yixiao remained silent.

He regretted his immature actions back then.

If he hadn’t done that, given his relationship with Ye Xing, he might have joined the Avengers Alliance and wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.

As for Lin Feng injuring his hand, he no longer harbored resentment.

Faced with someone so ruthless, he didn’t dare to resent them.

”Brother Ye, I wish you success in becoming a King.”

Xie Yixiao stopped pleading, put away his despondency, forced a smile at Ye Xing, and then turned and left.

Ye Xing watched his figure gradually fade away, his expression complex.

If in the Rookie Challenge, Xie Yixiao hadn’t bullied Yun Kai, he would have definitely asked Lin Feng for a helper spot.

”Heh heh.”

Chen Junhao was also observing Ye Xing and Xie Yixiao; having overheard their conversation, seeing Xie Yixiao leave in despair, he couldn’t help but smirk mockingly.

He actually hoped Xie Yixiao would become Ye Xing’s helper.

After all, Xie Yixiao was so weak that he could drag Ye Xing down.

Faced with the powerful Ye Xing, who could enter Frenzy three times, Chen Junhao had silently regarded him as a formidable competitor.

The evaluation concluded, and the apprentices who found mentorship left with their respective mentors.

Meanwhile, photographers packed up their equipment and hurried back to the studio, working overtime to produce the program.

At this moment, billions of people worldwide were eagerly awaiting their broadcast....
