Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 760: Chapter 569: Mentor Competition

The first phase of the King Becoming Plan concludes.

Number of participants: 2499 people (Students: 833, Assistants: 1666)

Number of deaths: 343 people (Students: 142, Assistants: 201)

Number of injured and withdrawn: 27 people (Students: 13, Assistants: 14)

Number of abstentions: 47 people (Students: 17, Assistants: 30)

First phase elimination number: 331 people (Students: 63, Assistants: 268)

Remaining participants: 1751 people (Students: 598, Assistants: 1153)

The lists of the dead, the withdrawn, and the eliminated were announced.

Nothing was hidden.

The specific numbers of deaths and withdrawals were clear, each eye-catching number indicating this is not a simple elimination game.

But a life-and-death battle.

A slight mistake could result in death.

Just the end of the first phase brought nearly a 30% elimination rate, astonishingly beyond estimation.

The casualties reached 370 people.

And this does not include the soldiers who protected the participants and the volunteers who were Kings.

During this visit to the Land of Fallen Gods, 29 Kings blew themselves up, 27 of whom were volunteers.

Among the 27, 17 were over eighty, and 5 were physically disabled.

These volunteers came from all around the world.

Each familiar or unfamiliar name evoked admiration and sadness.

Without these volunteers, the first phase could not have proceeded smoothly.

The sacrifices of the volunteers were heart-wrenching and regrettable, but fortunately, the collapse of the Holy Hall eased some of the sorrow.

Netizens speculated wildly on the reason for the collapse of the Holy Hall. But no one would guess it was related to Lin Feng.

As for the Avengers Alliance’s promise, no one mentioned it anymore.

With the Holy Hall gone, what ”sacrifices” could be offered?

Due to the collapse of the Holy Hall, the Alien Race went completely mad, causing riots in all major Space Gates, leading to frequent terrorist activities worldwide, prompting countries to raise their alert levels.

More than 70% of the Space Gates globally were forcibly sealed by governments, temporarily barring adventurer access.

...

Kufeng Great Desert.

In a military encampment.

Lin Feng and others stepped out of the room, looking up to see a bright blue sky above, and beneath it, an endless sea of sand rippled continuously.

”Hong Yi might like the environment here,”

Lin Feng said softly.

He hadn’t seen her in over half a month and genuinely missed the unfortunate yet brightly smiling, considerate girl.

The others chuckled, not daring to say much more.

”Are we still resting today?” Ye Xing asked.

They been here for seven days already.

Seven days and no assignments, only rest.

They needed rest, but too much rest brought boredom.

No phone signals or entertainment in this desert, aside from cultivation or sleep.

The only amusement was watching fights.

This week, eleven people were injured from altercations, with nine seriously injured and likely to be eliminated.

”In the morning, someone saw Byron and Gustav, so it should be starting soon,” Yu Qiao said.

The two mentioned were famous Emperors internationally.

They came here to be their future mentors.

The second phase of the King Becoming Plan was the mentor selection battle.

Yet, the specific rules hadn’t been announced.

They have been idly waiting for the mentors’ arrival for days, and now 29 mentor identities had been confirmed—14 Emperors and 15 Kings.

”Have you all decided? Which mentor do you plan to choose?”

Dong Yunan asked with some curiosity.

”If it were yesterday, I’d choose Ludy, but since Gustav is here, definitely him. As fellow Frenzy Warriors, his Refinement of the Sea Dragon Whale matches the style of my Frenzied Giant Beast; I’ll surely learn a lot,”

Ye Xing said excitedly, unabashedly admiring Gustav.

Gustav was hailed as the world’s top Frenzy Warrior, a near-unattainable existence; seeing him was hard enough, let alone apprenticeship.

This was an opportunity money couldn’t buy, and he wouldn’t miss it.

Only the World Alliance could invite such top figures at a high cost.

Those who voluntarily gave up their spots would deeply regret knowing this mentor lineup.

”I’ll choose Tang Rong; his signature Thunder Blade suits me,” Yun Tianqi said directly.

They had already settled on their target, choosing mentors whose expertise matches their combat style.

”Looks like I can only choose Curtis, though I’ve heard he has a bad temper,”

Yue Mingming said.

Curtis ranked as an Upper Rank Spirit King and was the only known Summoner among the mentors.

As a Summoner, Yue Mingming could only choose him.

Despite Curtis’s lack of Emperor Realm strength, he was more than qualified to teach Yue Mingming.

Moreover, Curtis was recognized as one of the world’s top ten Summoners, relatively young at 57, among other Extraordinary Summoners.

Strength doesn’t entirely determine teaching ability.

Choosing someone suitable is better than choosing someone strong.

To be a mentor for the King Becoming Plan, they all excelled in their fields, each with unique expertise.

”Naturally, I’ll choose Leng Feng; his Assassination Technique resonates with me. I believe he’ll be very satisfied with me as a student,”

Yu Qiao said, with his usual flamboyant arrogance.

”I pick Reimer, though not sure if she’d pick me!”

Yang Ningbing said with a touch of helplessness.

Despite confidence in her talent, it seemed irrelevant before these Emperors, as every participant in the King Becoming Plan was a prodigy.

Only those like Ye Qiu, with a Divine Level Demon Spirit, or Cloud Tianqi, with Ancestral Demonization, could truly discuss talent.

”Yes, the key is not who we choose, but whether the mentors will choose us,”

Huang Tianze agreed.

The second phase is the mentor selection battle; while the rules are unclear, the name suggests a competitive contest.

With 29 identified mentors and 1751 contestants, on average, a mentor would have to take on 60 people—impossible to manage?

This isn’t a classroom where a teacher instructs a class.

Every student’s talent and combat profession differ, needing specialized guidance.

This second phase is likely to grant apprenticeship only to winners or outstanding performers.

Amongst the students and helpers, neither his talent nor strength stood out; becoming a student to an Emperor mentor was difficult.

Miyama held his sister in his arms, hearing the discussions, undisturbed.

This mentor selection battle was irrelevant to them; he was ready for possible elimination at any time.

Though it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, losing it means no second chances, leaving him deeply regretful yet powerless.

The Avengers Alliance—other participants might have a low likelihood of succeeding in apprenticeship, but they were entirely without entry eligibility.

”Brother Feng, which mentor do you plan to choose?”

Seeing Lin Feng silent, He Jun curiously asked.

Among the alliance, she and Dong Yunan were weaker, so they became Lin Feng’s helpers.

She felt lost in her profession and didn’t know which mentor to choose, nor which mentor would want her.

Ideally, a student choosing a mentor would allow their helpers to follow, solving her dilemma.

Others also looked at Lin Feng.

”I don’t know either,”

Lin Feng shook his head. His career direction was unlike any others; despite much consideration, none of the mentors seemed suitable for him.

Afternoon.

After lunch, the loudspeaker for an emergency assembly blared.

Everyone exited their rooms, their eyes shimmering with excitement.

It was the first gathering in seven days—no doubt, the mentor selection battle was about to begin.
