Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 761: Chapter 570: Rules of the Mentor Showdown

As the participants walked out of their rooms and gathered together, silhouettes rose into the sky. A total of 37 people floated mid-air, looking down at the crowd below.

The thirty-seven gathered in groups of three or four, but it was clear they were divided into two camps.

One side was the Emperors, the other the Kings.

”Hanselton, Zuo Ziyu, Matsukita Yuki, Reimer, Hequan Chebai, Jin Qizhen, Leng Feng, Curtis, Tang Rong, Ludy, Byron, Gustav....”

Lin Feng and the others looked up, silently reciting the familiar names from left to right in their hearts.

These were top experts from various countries. The Kings were still approachable, but the Emperors were unattainable figures for them.

It was difficult to even catch a glimpse of them usually, let alone have any interaction.

Such a multitude of experts could easily destroy any small or medium-sized country.

Their names alone might represent an entire nation.

”They’re all experts!”

”Such a grand spectacle, to see so many Emperors makes this trip worthwhile.”

”Good thing I didn’t give up back then, otherwise I’d be regretting it now.”

”Even if I’m eliminated in the end and don’t become a King, as long as I successfully apprentice, the ticket price is worth it.”

The crowd whispered among themselves.

To partake in the King Becoming plan, one had to be undeniably talented; without talent, it was impossible to reach this stage.

Everyone here was ambitious and proud, reluctant to yield easily, but under the gazes of so many powerhouses, their hearts trembled slightly, not daring to make eye contact.

Many people raised their heads briefly before quickly lowering them, their eyes filled with excitement and thrill.

”I counted, there are 37 tutors, but fifteen or sixteen are unfamiliar faces, probably all King Level,” Yu Qiao whispered.

Notoriously arrogant, he restrained himself significantly now.

Strength is the capital for arrogance.

In front of these powerhouses, Yu Qiao was no better than an ant.

”I saw Clara, she’s also a Water Series Mage, both of us are women. If I choose her as my tutor, my chances of success might be higher.”

Dong Yunan said with some surprise.

”Why not choose Hanselton, he’s also a Water Series Mage, and an Extraordinary at that.”

Yu Qiao’s voice rang out.

In his view, the stronger the tutor, the better.

Among the 37 tutors, the 15 Emperors were, of course, priorities; if not chosen, then he would consider others.

Not to speak of their teaching abilities, just having the status of an Emperor’s student was highly valuable.

Many participants knew they couldn’t become Kings, but still took part in the King Becoming plan just to expand their network.

The connections of an Emperor were naturally far more valuable than those of a King.

With an Emperor as a backer, few forces would dare provoke you easily.

”Even if I want to apprentice under him, he has to want me.”

Dong Yunan gave Yu Qiao a big eye roll.

She knew her own limits, aware that within the participants, her strength and talent weren’t outstanding. Trying to apprentice under Hanselton was extremely difficult; her chance was slim. Choosing a less famous, weaker King as a tutor had a higher success rate.

”Kid, don’t think too highly of yourself, you really think you’re a Demon Fiend? 1,751 participants, only 15 Emperor tutors; be glad if you’re not eliminated. To become a tutor, for sure, they’ve been officially selected after thorough evaluation, more than adequate to teach us.”

Yun Tianqi glanced at Yu Qiao, unsure of what to make of his inexplicable confidence.

This guy wasn’t just bluffing; he was genuinely very confident.

”Mm.”

Ye Xing nodded and said, ”Tianqi makes a good point. In my view, choosing a King as a tutor isn’t a bad thing. An Emperor’s Secret Skill and teaching level might be higher, but they’re accustomed to being high and mighty. It’s best if they’re easy to deal with. If not, better to choose a King as a tutor. We’re mainly here to improve our strength, not to find a backer.”

”There’s a big difference between such students and disciples; they might only study for a few months, definitely not more than half a year.”

Ye Qiu also said.

The World Alliance has already done a great deal inviting such a myriad of powerhouses. There’s no way they’d be held here too long, as every powerhouse has their own affairs.

Some powerhouses are the foundation for a nation’s stable development, they can’t be away for too long.

”At any rate, mine is Leng Feng. He suits me too. I’m so outstanding, it’s bound to be a win-win situation.” Yu Qiao couldn’t care less.

He had set his sights on a tutor and was confident they’d be chosen, so he wasn’t worried or considering others.

Others also had their targets, just not as confident as Yu Qiao.

Some were still considering which tutor to choose.

Lin Feng raised his head slightly, scanning each tutor. Those with illustrious reputations and established fame he quickly glanced over; his focus was mainly on those unfamiliar faces.

But without information, appearance alone couldn’t reveal much.

While the students observed the tutors, the tutors were also observing the students.

The tutors came for various reasons: some driven by the alluring terms offered by officials, some for unrefusable favors, others merely for a trade.

Of course, there were those purely driven by the desire to teach and contribute their prowess.

Just as students sought powerful tutors, tutors equally sought high-quality students.

These participants have the potential to become Kings, and some have already broken through to become Kings.

Even to an Emperor, Kings are not entities one can easily underestimate.

In any organization, Kings are the backbone, and the number of Kings is also a symbol of strength.

It’s actually not uncommon for multiple Kings to besiege an Emperor.

Some mentors from small countries also hope to gain something through teaching.

The students they teach soon have a great chance of becoming Kings, and their future strength might even surpass theirs.

Some mentors hope to gain the support of the forces behind their students.

Some students come from powerful backgrounds, even with the presence of an Emperor, like Huang Tianze, whose grandfather is a Martial Emperor powerhouse.

Taking him as a student will inevitably lead to some connection with the Martial Emperor powerhouse.

With this relationship and friendship, if there’s a favor to ask in the future, as long as it’s not too excessive, the other party would find it hard to refuse.

This is also the reason some mentors are here.

”Alice, do you have any students you want?”

Among the mentors, two women were drawing much attention.

The speaker was a slender, otherwise ordinary-looking black woman. She appeared to be thirty-four years old, had short hair, and held a golden staff embedded with colorful gems. She asked the person beside her while overlooking the ground.

The woman beside her was of similar age but was white, extremely beautiful, with long eyelashes, big eyes, and very rare fiery red pupils. Her fair face had faint freckles, which only added a bit of charm without affecting her beauty. Her brown long hair casually draped down her back like a small waterfall, with waves. Even dressed in a black long robe, she appeared curvaceous.

One black, one white—this was also why they were so eye-catching.

”I’m just a middle rank Spirit King, at the bottom in terms of strength among mentors, and not famous at all. Good students definitely wouldn’t choose me.”

Alice smiled somewhat self-deprecatingly.

It was unexpected for her to be chosen as one of the tutors in this King Becoming Plan. As for those universally recognized excellent students, there aren’t even enough Emperors to go around, so how could it be her turn?

Among all the mentors, except for her appearance, she didn’t have any advantage.

But who selects a mentor based on appearance?

This isn’t a beauty contest.

Those who do this will be eliminated quickly, which wouldn’t mean much.

And it wouldn’t help her either.

”Yes, indeed.”

The black woman sighed.

Although she was an upper rank Spirit King, she was also at the bottom in terms of strength among mentors.

Not to mention compared to Emperors, she was not stronger than a King’s Tutor either.

Having similar strength and situational similarity, which was one of the reasons the two could be together, the other Emperors stood high above, not ignoring them, but not including them in their activities either.

They didn’t hold any grievances about this.

Kings and Emperors are entirely different levels of people.

Lin Feng noticed there were about twenty or thirty people around, holding various filming equipment, continuously shooting at them.

The first phase of the Heaven-Ascending Ladder only had photos, but this Mentor Battle should be broadcast as a program.

”I wonder if it’s a live broadcast?”

Ye Qiu wondered aloud.

”It can’t be live. What if something unexpected happens?”

Lin Feng replied.

Just then, the atmosphere suddenly quieted down as a figure stepped out and appeared before the students.

It was Igor.

”The second phase of the King Becoming Plan: Mentor Battle, let me explain the rules.”

Igor, as always, didn’t like unnecessary talk and went straight to the point.

”The Mentor Battle consists of 37 mentors, each with different strengths and characteristics. It’s okay if you’re not familiar with them; soon, the mentors will introduce themselves one by one, showcasing their advantages and abilities. Students should choose based on their career plans and features. I have a piece of advice for you: choosing a mentor is not about the strongest; it’s about the most suitable so you can go farther.”

”Each mentor can have fifteen students, and every student can bring one assistant. There’s no limitation on the previous combinations, meaning a mentor can bring a total of thirty people.”

”This time, including helpers, there are 1751 participants. 37 mentors can take a maximum of 1110 students, which means concerning this Mentor Battle, at least 641 people must be eliminated.”

”According to the rules, if a mentor likes you, you become their student; the choice is in the mentor’s hands. However, to avoid cheating or any risk, the number of students plus assistants from the same nationality as the mentor cannot exceed six.”

”Mentors can freely choose students, but once the game rules are set, they must be followed. If a student passes, the mentorship is successful; the student can refuse, but the mentor cannot find a reason to reject. There’s no time limit for the competition; participants can attempt to challenge the mentor’s game rules anytime. Once all mentors have filled their quota, the second phase concludes.”

Although the competition rules were simple, they weighed on the minds of many participants.

Originally, they thought that hardship had ended, but who would have thought this Mentor Battle would have such a high elimination rate!

Out of 1751 participants, 641 must be eliminated—a ratio exceeding one-third.

”This is okay, this is okay!”

He Jun was relieved compared to others who felt heavy-hearted; she felt a bit more relaxed.

A student can bring along an assistant. She just needs to follow Lin Feng’s steps.

With Lin Feng’s strength and potential, he doesn’t need to participate in games to be selected right away.

Maybe not all mentors will choose Lin Feng, but at least half of them would agree.

”That was scary.”

Dong Yunan patted his chest and let out a sigh of relief.

Even if she doesn’t succeed in the mentorship, with teammates backing her up, she probably won’t be eliminated.
