I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 150: Chapter 120: The Big Fish is Gone? Let’s Continue

He’d also sell some to fishmongers and seafood shops. The yields on certain rare catches were low, so major companies didn’t always bother with them.

But in the end, Gu Nan accepted a particularly challenging order.

Sheng Shuyun had placed an order for a wedding banquet in two weeks. They needed large Sri Lankan mud crabs and Rose Dragons, fifty of each, and all averaging over five jin.

This was no easy task. To catch crabs and lobsters that large, he’d have to use his guaranteed-catch chances.

Even with good luck, he’d only catch two or three at a time. If all else failed, he’d have to buy a batch at a premium to fill the order.

This order was Gu Nan’s personally, so he didn’t need to give Yi Chen a commission. That meant he could still turn a small profit even if he had to source the seafood from a supplier.

Still, it was best to catch them himself. His products were of guaranteed quality—far superior to the commercially imported ones.

Fortunately, his daily chances at the Fengqi Coast could now be saved up; otherwise, this mission would be even more difficult to complete.

After ordering the seafood, Sheng Shuyun left in a hurry, seeming to have urgent business.

”Boss, you’re rich!” Yi Chen exclaimed from the side, a hint of envy in her eyes. ’So much money!’

”Haha, you bet. After the typhoon passes, we’ll go pick up the car.” Gu Nan’s mood soared. In such a short time, his net worth had suddenly jumped by hundreds of thousands.

Putting everything else aside, the lobsters and crabs for the wedding banquet alone, even calculated at three hundred per jin, would be worth 150,000.

And his costs? Practically nothing. He was poised to make a heart-wrenching 140,000 in pure profit.

The order volumes for his other seafood weren’t small either, bringing in a hefty sum every day.

”Okay!” Yi Chen froze for a second when she heard Gu Nan was taking her with him to pick up the car, but then a sweet smile blossomed on her face.

Gu Nan didn’t stay idle that afternoon. The large fish that had been on display by the door was gone.

The grouper he’d planned to display was gone too, so he decided to put out the marlin instead.

The typhoon was due on a Wednesday, so Zhao Jie wasn’t supposed to pick up the fish until tomorrow.

But as luck would have it, just as Gu Nan was about to go buy a small crane, Zhao Jie sent him a message asking if the fish had arrived yet.

’What could he do? He’d just have to tell him it was here. Making money was more important than showing off a big fish, anyway.’

This marlin weighed 462 jin and was worth nearly 37,000. It was definitely better to sell it and get paid sooner rather than later.

Still, he had to buy the crane. He might as well take the boat to the shipyard and have it installed at the same time.

Leaving Yi Chen to watch the shop, Gu Nan set out on his tricycle.

He rode toward the docks. The plan was to take his boat to the shipyard first to get the small crane installed.

The shipyard either had these parts in stock or could get them from a crane factory at a moment’s notice, so he could just have them source a portable crane for him as well.

Just then, an elderly man walking down the road holding a fishing rod caught Gu Nan’s eye.

It wasn’t that the man was a fellow angler that interested him, but rather the fishing rod in his hand.

If he wasn’t mistaken, the rod in the man’s hand was made of purple bamboo.

The rod was simple and unadorned, looking like it was homemade. After all, the ones you buy online tend to be much flashier—they at least look a lot prettier.

The old man seemed to notice the stare. He turned his head to see a young man on a tricycle, eyes glued to his bamboo rod.

”Young man, you’ve taken a liking to my rod, have you?”

Gu Nan smiled. ”It’s just so rare to see. Nowadays, everyone buys their rods from a tackle shop. You don’t see many people making their own anymore.”

The old man puffed up with pride. ”You can say that again. This here is made from eight-year-old bamboo. It took me two whole months to make this rod alone.”

”That long? But the rod looks pretty thin. How big a fish can it handle?”

”Don’t let its thinness fool you. It can handle a twenty-jin catch, no problem.”

”Really?”

Gu Nan was genuinely surprised. He didn’t know anything about bamboo rods; he’d only started talking to the old man out of simple curiosity.

He never would have thought such a slender bamboo rod could haul in a twenty-jin fish.

”Why would I lie to you? Last year, I caught a big carp weighing twenty-three jin and six liang with this very rod. Come on, let’s go to the banks of the Yang River. I’ll show you what it can do right now.”

Speaking of fishing, Gu Nan’s interest was genuinely piqued.

He could buy the crane anytime. He wanted to see if that bamboo rod was really as good as the man claimed.

But just watching someone else fish sounded boring. So, Gu Nan said, ”Sir, why don’t you hop on? I’ll swing by my boat at the docks to grab my rod, and I’ll fish with you.”

”Alright!” The old man didn’t stand on ceremony, promptly sitting beside him. Why walk when you could hitch a free ride?

When they arrived at the docks, the old man wasn’t fazed to see that someone as young as Gu Nan owned a fishing boat. However, his expression changed to one of surprise when he saw the purple fishing rod Gu Nan brought out.

”That’s a beautiful rod you’ve got. What brand is it?”

”It’s a family heirloom,” Gu Nan began to spin a yarn. ”Sir, you know of Jiang Taigong?”

”What’s Jiang Taigong got to do with it... Is your last name Jiang?” the old man asked, confused.

”My last name isn’t Jiang. I’m just saying, if Jiang Taigong had a rod like mine, he wouldn’t have had to wait until he was seventy to meet Old Zhou. Forget all that ’let the willing get hooked’ nonsense. With this rod, he probably would’ve reeled in Old Zhou when he was still a baby.”

”You little smart-aleck!” The old man laughed.

The subject of the rod’s brand was dropped, and the two soon arrived at a spot on the bank of the Yang River that was perfect for fishing. There were quite a few other anglers around.

Gu Nan parked his tricycle and followed the old man to a relatively open spot.

He didn’t usually fish in freshwater, so the old man provided all the bait and chum.
