I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 128: Chapter 113: Yi Chen is Poor, So She’s All About Her Career

SWOOSH~

When he felt a tug on the line, Gu Nan yanked his fishing rod upward.

The pull was quite strong this time. Thanks to the bonus from the green fishing rod, a fish hooked using a guaranteed-catch opportunity was sure to be a big one.

’Catching five fish, or maybe some crabs and lobsters, within ten minutes isn’t going to be easy. I’ll probably only have a chance to complete that quest during a normal fishing session.’

The boat rod felt completely different to Gu Nan than the rock-fishing rod he was used to. Perhaps because this rod was shorter, the pull on the line felt much more direct.

Also, since the rod was stiffer, it was actually a bit easier to reel in a fish of the same size with sheer force.

To put it bluntly, a rock-fishing rod is designed for rock fishing. It was never very suitable for boat fishing in the first place.

Furthermore, compared to the Fengqi Fishing Rod set, the Seven-Star Fishing Rod set also included a rod holder that could be mounted on the boat’s gunwale, which would make fishing even more relaxing.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t found a matching electric reel. Besides, the fish caught with green-tier equipment wouldn’t be exceptionally large, and Gu Nan’s own physical condition had improved, so it was actually more convenient to just hold the rod.

The fish on his line struggled fiercely, but it was no match for his brute force.

After about three minutes, an Australian hake, over half a meter and estimated to be around seventy centimeters long, appeared on the surface of the water.

Compared to the Star Chicken Fish, Gu Nan was much happier to see this species.

Although hake isn’t a true cod, it’s known as ”white cod” in the market. Not only does it have a higher fat content, but its texture is also better than that of true cod.

This type of fish is perfect for being sold in portions. Customers can steam it, and it’s delicious with just a little bit of Steamed fish soy sauce. Of course, battering and deep-frying it works well too.

If it was so good, then why was this Australian hake so cheap?

That, of course, was an issue of species. There are several types of true cod, and one of them, the Pacific cod, is extremely cheap.

Live, they sell for twenty to thirty yuan a jin, and frozen for just over ten.

There were cheap and expensive types of cod, and the same was true for hake. Gu Nan figured this fish would sell very well in his shop.

As the fish was brought aboard with a landing net and sent into the Chilled Storage, the system immediately went to work.

The seventy-centimeter Australian hake was instantly bled, then its head, tail, and guts were removed.

It was then flash-frozen by the Chilled Storage’s high-tech system, cut into fillets, and vacuum-sealed for storage.

That’s right, the Chilled Storage was fully automated. When it encountered this kind of fish, it provided a complete, all-in-one processing service.

When he received the product, Gu Nan wouldn’t have to do any of the work himself—he could just sell it directly. Naturally, the price would be higher than selling the fish whole; the weight lost in processing had to be made up for by the customer.

Of course, the Chilled Storage could also be set to ship the fish whole, either deep-frozen or just chilled on ice.

For retail sales, selling it by the fillet was better, unless a customer placed a large order and specifically requested the fish whole.

He flicked his rod, cast the lure into the water, and used his second guaranteed-catch opportunity.

A moment later, he caught another Australian hake, also around seventy centimeters long.

He then caught three more in a row, making Gu Nan wonder if he had stumbled upon a whole school of them, just like that time before.

Hake was a good catch, but he wanted to unlock more entries in his index, so he moved to the other side of the fishing boat.

The lure fell into the water. After ten-odd seconds, the tip of the rod bent slightly downward.

Gu Nan frowned. The pull was lighter than before, but the way it was struggling and moving was very similar to the Australian hake.

Sighing inwardly, he quickly turned the handle and reeled the fish in.

However, as the fish neared the surface, the shadow it cast under the lights wasn’t nearly as long. Gu Nan’s eyes lit up. ’A new species!’

Instead, its body was rather short and round, looking a bit like a pomfret.

But when the fish fully emerged from the water, he immediately let out a choice curse. ”Holy shit, it’s so fucking ugly.”

Its body and color were very similar to a silver pomfret, but its mouth was slightly upturned, making it look a bit like a humpback grouper.

It had five exceptionally long spines on its dorsal fin, and its pelvic fins looked like tiny oars.

’Looks aside, just judging from its body, the meat should be pretty good.’

In reality, this fish wasn’t small; it was probably over thirty-five centimeters long. Combined with its oval-shaped body and thick back, Gu Nan found it had some real heft when he lifted it with the landing net—it must have been four or five jin.

This fish couldn’t be put into the aquarium, so he could only send it to the Chilled Storage.

Opening the game’s index, he found it was a two-star fish. After collecting the Gold Coins, he began to read the fish’s description.

Cloud-Pattern Rain-Print Bream. This fish was neither a pomfret nor a bream, but a species of the order Zeiformes.

It could reach a maximum length of seventy centimeters, and its flavor was rated a remarkable five and a half stars.

Its distribution was wide, but the ones from Seven-Star Rock hailed from the waters near Australia. The suggested sale price was one hundred and twenty.

Gu Nan was stunned. A price like that would be considered at least a three-star level back on the Fengqi Coast.

And yet, in the standard index for Seven-Star Rock, this fish was only ranked fifth, with an empty slot still between it and the tiger crab.

The order of the game’s index was significant: the further down an entry was, the higher its star rating. Such fish were incredibly rare, both in reality and in the game, and their prices were off the charts.

’I only have one of this new fish for now, so I’ll hold onto it. The hake, though, can be shipped out for sale. I’ve caught five tonight, and adding the one from before, that’s not a small number.’

He had used up his six daily guaranteed catches, but hadn’t completed a single one of his daily quests for the night. Gu Nan cast his line, letting the bait sink to the bottom.
