I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 138: Chapter 116: Super Yellowtail Amberjack, a Storefront Display (Part 2)

”Damn it...” Wang Junhe was about to curse back, but the fish’s explosive power made him wisely shut his mouth.

After just a short while, he was panting, his breathing heavy.

But no matter what, he refused to let anyone else reel it in. This was his trophy.

Gu Nan had wanted to join in on the fun, but just as he was about to go take a look, his Fengqi Fishing Rod got a bite, too.

It pulled with the force of an ox. From the familiar tug, he knew it was a yellowtail.

But it wasn’t as powerful as the Meter Level one from the afternoon, so he knew it wasn’t as big.

Instead of cranking the handle, Gu Nan locked the drag and simply held on, letting the fish run. The force was manageable for him, so locking the drag wasn’t an issue.

Over the course of the afternoon, he had gotten a feel for how the purple fishing line and bait wore down a fish’s stamina.

The blue line had an extra stamina-draining effect on fish under twenty-two pounds, so the purple one should work on those up to fifty-five pounds.

So for fish under fifty-five pounds, he just needed to hold his ground, and the line and bait would rapidly drain their stamina.

Sure enough, after just four or five minutes, Gu Nan could no longer feel the fish’s resistance.

He rapidly cranked the handle, quickly reeling the yellowtail in.

The fish’s stamina was still being drained even while it rested, so Gu Nan reeled it in smoothly. It took him less than two minutes to bring the fish in from dozens of meters away, right up to the side of the boat.

It looked close to Meter Level, maybe around thirty-three pounds. He picked up the nearby gaff and sank it into the fish’s side.

Blood immediately poured from the wound. The yellowtail, its stamina already exhausted, thrashed its tail again, burning the last of its life force in a final struggle.

Gu Nan let go of the fishing rod, resting it on the gunwale. With both hands on the gaff, he heaved the fish aboard.

”Whoa, nice one! Ah Nan, you quietly landed another big one.” Guo Xiao shook his head in amazement when he saw what was happening, then started teasing Wang Junhe.

”Look at you! The fish isn’t even that big, and you’re sweating buckets and panting like an ox. Your stamina is terrible!”

Wang Junhe gritted his teeth, not just because the fish was too strong, but also because of Guo Xiao’s incessant taunts.

However, the next moment, with a sharp SWISH, the rod that was bent into an arch suddenly straightened, making a whipping sound through the air. The taut line went slack. The fish had escaped.

Wang Junhe stared blankly at the rod in his hands, and Guo Xiao was stunned too. Neither of them had expected this outcome.

”Damn it! That was at least a fifty-five pounder! This is all your fault. If you hadn’t been running your mouth, the fish wouldn’t have escaped.”

Snapping back to his senses, Wang Junhe threw down his rod, immediately grabbed Guo Xiao by the neck, and started shaking him.

”COUGH, COUGH, COUGH... What the hell does it have to do with me? I’m not the one who let the fish go.”

Gu Nan, who was in the middle of bleeding his fish, was startled. He thought they were really fighting and hurried over to break it up, but when he got closer, he realized they were just messing around.

”Ah Nan, quick, help me! Get this scrawny mutt off me!” Guo Xiao yelled when he saw him approaching.

”You two carry on. I’ve got more fish to catch!” Gu Nan said with a shake of his head, promptly backing away.

Wang Junhe didn’t have much stamina to begin with. After roughhousing for a bit, he plopped down on the deck to rest, panting nonstop.

Guo Xiao helped reel in the broken line, but when he saw the leader line, he realized what had happened. ”Your leader line got frayed and snapped. Looks like for big fish, you’ve got to use a thicker line, or a wire leader.”

Wang Junhe was speechless when he saw it, filled with regret. If he had switched to a wire leader, that fish would have never gotten away.

Meanwhile, after Gu Nan finished bleeding his fish, the boat rod landed a yellowtail of around thirty-three pounds.

The two fish weighed about sixty-six pounds combined, worth six thousand. Even sold in bulk at a discount, they would fetch four or five thousand. This was an incredible haul.

He put a fresh small squid on the hook and cast it into the water. After tossing the bled yellowtail into a cooler of ice water, Gu Nan continued with his ”stocking up” for the night.

With a light flick of the rod, the metal jig sank quickly, all the way to the bottom.

Gu Nan closed the bail, adjusted the drag to leave a little give, and then slowly began to jig the bottom.

The large metal jig bounced up and down in the water, striking the rocks on the seabed and emitting a constant CLACK, CLACK, CLACK sound that attracted nearby fish.

The slowly swimming yellowtails heard the sound and turned as one to find its source.

Just then, a gigantic yellowtail appeared, dwarfing the others in its school. It had been the first to hear the strange sound and was now approaching out of curiosity to investigate.

It normally lived a solitary life in the clear waters of the open sea.

But it had sensed a change in the wind and waves—a sign of approaching danger. It happened to encounter a school of its own kind and followed along, eventually becoming their leader.

It decided to lead the school to the waters where it had lived as a juvenile. After a two-day journey, they were close to their destination.

But little did it know that because of a moment’s curiosity, it would never return to its home waters.

’Holy shit... It’s *this* big?’

Gu Nan hadn’t expected a fish with so much power to be in this school. Caught off guard, he was yanked so hard he slammed right into the gunwale.

Luckily, his rod leash was attached, so he was able to snatch the rod back after it was ripped from his grasp. He then gave it a powerful yank to set the hook.

For Gu Nan, who had once caught a marlin weighing over three hundred and thirty pounds, this fish was powerful, but not unmanageable.
