I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 131: Chapter 114: Watch Me Mow Them Down with a Big Gun

”I’m not sure if any of you have bought fish from me before, but if you have, you know my fish is top-quality. The prices are fair, and I don’t rip anyone off.”

”If you haven’t, feel free to walk around the market and check out the other stalls to compare.”

Gu Nan was very confident in his products. The quality was solid, and besides, they probably wouldn’t find hake at any other stall in the entire market.

His daily revenue was so stable for a couple of key reasons. The first was unimpeachable quality. The second, and this was crucial, was that he was the only one selling it.

So Gu Nan wasn’t just interested in casual shoppers; he was more focused on cultivating a group of seafood content creators as regulars.

These customers were generous spenders and had a particular fondness for rare seafood. It was a perfect, mutually beneficial arrangement.

”Oh, come on, I’m a regular here. I trust that the quality of your fish is guaranteed. But can’t you give me a little discount? Seventy a jin is a bit steep.”

”Yeah, boss, give us a better price! If the fish is really that good, I’ll tell all my neighbors about it and bring you more business.”

Two of the five women were regulars. They knew this shop was honest, unlike some places that were always trying to pull a fast one. At other stalls, whether you got good, cheap seafood often came down to luck.

So the two of them genuinely wanted to buy it and didn’t actually think the price was that high. Haggling was just a force of habit.

Gu Nan shook his head without a second thought. ”Can’t do it. This fish only comes from Australia. The cost and shipping are so high that my profit margin is already slim. If I sell it to you at a loss, you might not be able to buy it from me next time.”

One of the customers asked curiously, ”Why not?”

Gu Nan spread his hands. ”I’m running a business. Why would I sell something if I’m not making a profit on it?”

At that, all the customers laughed.

Everyone understood the logic. What was the point of running a business if you weren’t making money? In the end, each of them bought a piece.

The fish was cut into fillets of various sizes. Since they had arrived early, they all chose a piece from just below the belly.

It was a good size—each bag was about 300 grams, perfect for a single steamed dish.

So even though the price was seventy yuan a jin, they were only buying a single piece of fish, which came out to around forty yuan. That was still an acceptable price.

Business was pretty good that morning. Gu Nan was busy for a while and didn’t even notice his phone vibrating in his pocket.

Around ten o’clock, as the morning rush at the seafood market died down and the shop emptied out, Yi Chen grumbled, ”Boss, next time you get a new shipment, can you please tell me the price beforehand? If you hadn’t shown up today, I wouldn’t have known whether to call you or not.”

She was worried a call might wake Gu Nan, or that he might still be out at sea and hard to reach.

”My bad, my bad. I’ll definitely tell you in advance next time.” It was indeed his oversight, so Gu Nan could only offer an apologetic smile and admit his fault.

Yi Chen knew to quit while she was ahead. Seeing it was getting late, she asked, ”What do you want for lunch? I’m going to the market.”

”Let’s steam a piece of that hake for ourselves for lunch. And maybe buy some pork ribs to make sweet and sour ribs. For vegetables... how about some stir-fried cauliflower?”

”Okay...” Yi Chen nodded. ’That’s one thing I like about Gu Nan,’ she thought. ’He always says exactly what he wants to eat and never just says ’whatever.’ And even when I just throw something together for lunch, he’s never a picky eater.’

’Picky eater?’

’A pretty girl is cooking for you, and the food is actually good. In a situation like this, if you weren’t treating her like a queen to make sure she keeps cooking for you every day, and instead got picky about it? You’d have to be an absolute idiot.’

Just as Yi Chen grabbed the keys to her electric scooter to head to the market, Gu Nan suddenly had an idea. He quickly called out to her, pulling out his phone as he walked over.

”Here, give me a smile!”

Yi Chen looked completely baffled, but seeing that Gu Nan already had his phone up, she instinctively broke into a sweet smile.

The phone’s screen flashed, freezing the image.

Gu Nan looked at the photo. The angle was great; it was a flattering shot, and very natural.

Yi Chen didn’t need a beauty filter in the slightest. Like some exceptionally beautiful celebrities, filters would only detract from her looks.

”What was that for?”

Yi Chen was confused. She had no idea why Gu Nan had suddenly taken her picture.

Gu Nan had no intention of telling her the real reason. Sometimes it’s better not to say anything, but other times, honesty is better than hiding things.

”You know all those fishing buddies I have? If they come by to buy fish when I’m not here, I’ll just have them look at your picture. That way, they won’t go to the wrong shop.”

It was a ridiculous excuse. Yi Chen pressed him a few times, but Gu Nan wouldn’t tell her the truth, so she had to drop it for now. She’d figure it out later when she got the chance.

After she left for the market, Gu Nan breathed a sigh of relief.

He then sent the photo to Zhao Suying. He didn’t have a video, but a picture would have to do.

Just then, he noticed that the WeChat friend request he’d sent that morning had been accepted. He sent a sticker as a greeting.

The girl from the blind date didn’t reply right away, but Zhao Suying, who was apparently free, responded instantly.

”You didn’t just find this picture online, did you?”

Gu Nan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Mom, look at the background! It’s my seafood shop!”

Zhao Suying took a closer look and saw that it was, indeed, his shop in the background. The girl was pretty, no doubt, but she looked quite young. So she asked, ”This girl looks a little young. Is she even an adult?”

”...She’s an adult. She’s already past her twentieth birthday, well over the legal age for marriage.” Gu Nan was a bit speechless. ’What does Mom take me for? The kind of guy who’d go after a minor?’

”Still, she’s a bit young... She’s still in college. Once she graduates...” Zhao Suying was very pleased with Yi Chen’s looks, but she still had some reservations about her age.
