I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 130: Chapter 113: Yi Chen is Poor, So She’s All Career-Minded (3)

Even with a raincoat and a hat, fishing on a rainy day was never a particularly pleasant experience.

...

The next day, Gu Nan woke up quite early, glancing at the time to see it was just past eight.

He pulled open the curtains to a gray, dreary world. It was still drizzling, feeling just like the plum rain season in April, though thankfully the room wasn’t as damp as it would be then.

Just as he was about to get up and wash, his phone suddenly rang. Gu Nan picked it up and his heart sank. It was his mom. ’Don’t tell me she’s going to bring up blind dates again.’

But in the next moment, he remembered. He was already planning to make a move on Yi Chen, so what was there to be afraid of!

He answered the call, and his mom’s voice immediately came through.

”Ah Nan, what happened last night? Why was your phone unreachable all evening?”

”Huh? Oh, my phone was acting up last night. It couldn’t get a signal. I was going to get it fixed today, but it started working again this morning.” Gu Nan’s mind worked fast, and he immediately came up with a suitable excuse.

He couldn’t let her know about buying the boat and going out to sea just yet. Otherwise, she might storm the shop this very afternoon.

After being her son for over twenty years, Gu Nan knew his mother’s personality like the back of his hand.

Opening a shop? She would absolutely support it. Going out to sea to fish?

He’d get his ear twisted and an earful of scolding, at the very least.

It wasn’t that he was afraid of his parents, but he was a grown man. Being lectured by his mom like that? He had a reputation to maintain!

Zhao Suying didn’t suspect a thing and got straight to the point. ”Last time, you said you wanted someone two or three years younger than you and pretty. Well, Mom asked around and finally managed to scout someone out for you. The young lady just graduated from college. I’ll send you her WeChat and photo in a bit. You get to know her properly.”

”If you dare to make excuses or postpone it again this time, hmph, hmph...”

She didn’t utter any specific threats, but those two cold snorts said it all.

Gu Nan, however, was stunned. ’Going on blind dates right after graduating from college? Does she have to be in such a rush!’

’No, wait. It’s a shame my mom isn’t a matchmaker. How did she manage to find someone of such high quality?’

Hoping to give his mom something else to do so she’d stop staring at him all the time, Gu Nan made a solemn suggestion. ”Mom, I think you have the potential to be a matchmaker! Why don’t you open a matchmaking agency? You might make more in a year than Dad and I combined.”

Zhao Suying was taken aback for a moment, then she actually started to consider it.

When she was young, she’d always been a social butterfly and maintained excellent relationships with everyone.

She had several different circles of close friends, and they all got together regularly.

The girl she was introducing to her son was the niece of a friend’s husband’s brother-in-law.

Many of her friends had unmarried children. If she opened a matchmaking agency, she could make a business just by introducing the children and nephews and nieces of her friends to each other. There was real potential there.

”No, wait. What matchmaking agency? If you don’t get married, I’d be a laughingstock for opening a place like that. Can’t even sort out my own son’s marriage but I’m setting other people up?”

Unexpectedly, the topic had circled back to him. Gu Nan had no choice but to bring up Yi Chen.

”Uh, Mom, actually, I’ve met a really nice girl. I’m getting to know her right now, but it hasn’t been long, so I didn’t tell you. Let’s just forget about the blind date. I promise, the moment I win her over, I’ll bring her home for you and Dad to meet.”

”Alright, alright. You’ve used that excuse before. If she’s real, send me a video of her first. Otherwise, you’re going on this blind date, and you’re going to behave.”

”Besides, I specifically asked my friend about this girl she’s introducing. Even if you really do have a girlfriend, you have to add her and at least go through the motions.”

Her friend had done her a favor by introducing her niece. If the two young people didn’t even meet before she turned them down on her end, wouldn’t that be making a fool of her friend?

If things went sour, it could damage their friendship!

”...” Gu Nan was helpless and had no choice but to agree.

His daily guaranteed catches already took up a lot of his time, and with the new daily quests, he was busy enough just with fishing.

He was still slowly trying to build something with Yi Chen, and now he had to deal with a blind date. What a headache.

A moment later, his WeChat notification dinged. Gu Nan opened the message, and when he saw the photo inside, he fell silent.

She was a girl whose looks were in no way inferior to Yi Chen’s, just with a different style. She had a gentle disposition and a classic kind of beauty.

She was quite tall. The photo only showed that she had good body proportions, but it was impossible to tell her exact height.

He couldn’t see any obvious signs of leg-stretching photo edits, so her long legs were incredibly eye-catching—something Yi Chen didn’t have.

Of course, Yi Chen had her own advantages. She was younger, and second, all her nutrition had clearly gone to her upper body.

It was hard to tell with the woman in the photo because of her loose clothes, but he guessed she was probably only slightly better than ’well-off’.

She was likely from the elite class, unlike Yi Chen, who was poor. Perhaps that explained why all of Yi Chen’s assets were tied up in her career.

’Mom is amazing!’

Gu Nan marveled. A woman this outstanding in looks alone, combined with her youth, was a rare find on the blind-dating scene.

After seeing the photo, he actually felt relieved.

She was young and beautiful. Never mind suitors, she must be surrounded by plenty of men with excellent prospects.

She was probably just going through the motions of a blind date with him because her family persuaded her to. When the time came, he wouldn’t even need to make an excuse; she would naturally reject him.

After adding her on WeChat and leaving a message to introduce himself, Gu Nan washed up and headed to the shop.

”This fish meat looks so white. Could it be cod?”

”The packaging looks similar. The cod I bought before came in a package just like this.”

”Is cod expensive? I heard it’s pricey, and there are a lot of fakes out there.”

”Well, we can just ask how much it is. Miss, how much is this fish?”

Yi Chen was a little troubled. Gu Nan had brought in some new products but hadn’t told her about them, so she had no idea what to charge!

She looked at the cost on the invoice. It wasn’t too expensive. Based on past experience, it should probably sell for fifty or sixty.

But with Gu Nan not there, she didn’t dare set a price herself.

Just as she was about to try and stall them, she saw him pulling up to the entrance on his little electric scooter.

”Boss, you’re here! We have a few customers who want to buy this cod.”

”This isn’t cod!”

Gu Nan also saw the five customers crowded around the box.

They were all middle-aged women, probably between forty and fifty.

One of them, who looked a bit younger, asked curiously, ”Then what kind of fish is it?”

He walked in and explained with a smile, ”This is Australian Hake, a type of deep-sea fish. Some people on the market call it white cod, but in reality, it’s better than true cod in both taste and nutritional value.”

”But the price isn’t actually that high. My price is just seventy a jin. If any of you have bought cod before, you should know that this isn’t expensive.”

Although the game’s suggested price was fifty, he had processed and filleted it, selling only the meat. He had to sell it for seventy just to not take a loss; in fact, he’d even earn a tiny bit extra.

”Is it really better than cod?” The woman who had just said she’d bought cod before looked doubtful as she picked up a package and examined it from top to bottom.

But the fish was already filleted. There was no way she could tell anything just by looking.
