I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 132: Chapter 114: Watch Me Mow Them Down with a Big Gun 2

”Mom, nothing’s even started between us yet. If something actually happens, I’ll give you all the details, okay?” Gu Nan sighed.

’The fact that Yi Chen only graduated high school was a point against her. Without spending time with her, her qualifications on paper were definitely worse than the girl Zhao Suying had introduced. Not just her education, but her family background too.

After all, she lived with her grandmother in an old house, and her parents weren’t in the picture. It would be one thing if they were off running a business somewhere, but any other situation would be another mark against her.

Fortunately, after spending some time with her, he hadn’t found any signs of parasitic parents, which allowed him to relax and continue getting to know her at his own pace.’

After hearing her son’s words, Zhao Suying mulled it over for a moment and didn’t press the issue.

’As long as her son had someone in mind, the timing wasn’t a big deal. Her real fear was that he’d stubbornly refuse to get married at all.’

She then sent a text telling her son to handle the blind date politely and not to offend the girl, before getting busy with lunch herself.

Gu Nan read the message but wasn’t too concerned about the blind date. ’The girl hasn’t even replied yet. Hopefully, she’ll just say she was forced into this and has no intention of getting married. That’d save me the headache.’

He got up and dragged the box of hake further into the shop. The freezer was in the back, against the wall, and he needed to store the frozen fish inside.

As he was busy, a man who looked to be in his early thirties walked in.

What really caught his eye, however, was the cameraman beside him, filming.

Hearing the commotion, Gu Nan turned around. His eyes lit up at the sight, and he immediately went over to greet them. ”Feel free to look around. Most of the fish I have here can’t be found at Yangjiang Port—you probably can’t find them in all of Bazhou City.”

Ji Zhaolin laughed at his words. ”For real?”

Gu Nan made an inviting gesture. ”If you don’t believe me, see how many you can identify.”

’This shop owner sure talks big.’ Having already filmed videos on over two hundred types of seafood, Ji Zhaolin had his pride. He might not be at the level of a ”Sea King,” but he was at least a general in his own right.

However, when he saw the fish in the first tank, he froze.

The fish looked quite ordinary, not some bizarrely shaped, obscure type of seafood. It was obviously an edible fish, yet he honestly couldn’t identify it.

The second... was probably some kind of barracuda; its features were quite distinct.

The third... ’I bet skinning that one would be incredibly satisfying.’

The fourth...

The fifth...

”Hey, I know this one! It’s a Blue Star Nine-spine Sea Perch. And with that color, if I’m not mistaken, that must be a Tai Star Garoupa! This one’s a rosy grouper. You’ve got some pretty big ones here, too.”

Gu Nan’s shop already had twenty-three different kinds of seafood from the Fengqi Coast out for sale.

A few elite-grade species were still too low in number, so he hadn’t put them out yet, keeping them preserved in his aquarium and cold storage.

Gu Nan chuckled from the side. ”See? You don’t recognize most of them.”

Ji Zhaolin nodded, conceding defeat. ”Your seafood really is on the obscure side. Boss, as you can see, I’m a content creator who mostly posts videos about seafood.”

”Why don’t you start by introducing me to the seafood in your shop? That’ll help me pick something out.”

But Gu Nan just chuckled. ”Where’s the fun in an introduction? It’s more exciting to treat it like a blind box. Wouldn’t it be more authentic to just pick the one that catches your eye and film it, without knowing its origin or flavor beforehand?”

Ji Zhaolin paused, then burst out laughing. ”Haha, you’re right! Filming it that way *would* be more interesting. I’d feel the anticipation and get to be part of the discovery myself.”

He then took another lap around the shop. In the end, he decided to play it safe and pointed to the Large-spot Grouper, asking, ”Boss, what kind of grouper is this, and how much is it?”

”That’s a Large-spot Grouper. It’s from southern Kenya, a pretty decent type of grouper. As for the price, that depends on how big a fish you want.”

’The Large-spot Groupers he’d caught before were at most three or four pounds, but since getting the purple fishing rod, in the last two days he’d caught three king-sized ones. They were almost half a meter long and weighed around seven or eight pounds.

A fish this big obviously couldn’t be priced the same as the smaller ones. It was only natural to mark it up.’

”How much for a small one, and what about this biggest one?” Big was the selling point. For videos, you needed visual impact; a bigger fish naturally made a better impression than a small one.

”One-sixty a pound for the small ones, two hundred for the large one.”

Ji Zhaolin’s eyebrows shot up at the price. It wasn’t that it was too expensive—on the contrary, it was much cheaper than he’d imagined. He’d been expecting it to be over three hundred.

’Aside from a few particularly cheap varieties, most groupers cost over two hundred, sometimes even three hundred a pound.’

”Can you go a little cheaper, Boss? How about one-eighty?”

”Can’t do it. Southern Kenya is far away, and the shipping cost to get them here live is sky-high. Two hundred is already a discount since you’re a content creator. I’d normally ask for two-thirty or two-forty for this fish.”

”Ah... alright, fine. I’ll take this biggest one. Bag it up with oxygen!”

Ji Zhaolin knew the business, so after hearing Gu Nan’s explanation, he was too embarrassed to haggle any further and decisively took the largest fish.

”You got it!” Gu Nan immediately scooped out the largest one and put it on the scale. ”Nine-point-two pounds. That comes to one thousand, eight hundred and forty.”

Ji Zhaolin was decisive. Since he hadn’t gotten a discount, he wasn’t going to quibble over the extra forty yuan.

Gu Nan didn’t offer to waive it, either. ’Forty yuan? That’s a day’s worth of food money!’

’He was willing to give regulars who spent a lot of money in his shop a bit of a discount, or cut a deal for customers referred by friends, but for a brand-new customer? Forget it.’

After seeing the customer off, Gu Nan added a note to the new contact on his WeChat, then sat down behind the counter and started playing a game.

He didn’t get a reply from his blind date until after he’d eaten lunch, having sampled the tender and savory hake.
