Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 151: Chapter 140: Experiment on the Gravitational Effects on Matter and Antimatter

In the living room.

Lu Li instinctively activated his super hearing.

He wanted to determine if Mr. Wu was free.

Soon, the sound of Liu Xiuming making a phone call reached his ears.

Liu Xiuming asked politely, ”Miss Shen, is Elder Wu there?”

A young woman’s voice responded, ”Hello, Mr. Liu. The professor is at Su Cheng University’s physics experiment center guiding some experiments.”

Su Cheng University?

Isn’t that my alma mater!

Lu Li’s heart was stirred, involuntarily recalling bits and pieces from his school days.

Honestly, it’s quite nostalgic.

At this moment, Liu Xiuming’s resigned voice came to his ears, ”I see, so Elder Wu is unavailable right now?”

Miss Shen inquired, ”Is there something you need?”

Liu Xiuming explained the situation, ”It’s like this, a friend of mine is very interested in physics research and wants to learn from Elder Wu.”

Upon hearing this, Lu Li felt a bit anxious. Would Mr. Wu agree to meet him?

Miss Shen seemed surprised, ”Oh, is your friend someone important in the field of physics?”

Liu Xiuming replied rather awkwardly, ”Ahem, no, he is not from the physics field, he is simply interested in the research.”

Miss Shen paused for a moment, then asked, ”Do you mean he hasn’t had much exposure to physics?”

Liu Xiuming sounded uncertain, ”That should be the case.”

Miss Shen suddenly laughed, ”If he is simply interested in physics, I could probably guide him a bit. As you know, the professor is quite old and might not have the energy for this kind of thing.”

Although Lu Li was eager to learn some physics knowledge from Elder Wu, he understood Miss Shen’s point. Elder Wu was elderly, and he wasn’t looking to delve into deeply complex physics. Learning from Elder Wu’s student, Miss Shen, should also be very beneficial.

Liu Xiuming hesitated, ”Let me ask my friend if he is okay with that.”

”Alright,” Miss Shen said, ”If your friend is willing, he can come to Su Cheng University to find me anytime. I’ll continue with the experiment visit, contact me if there’s anything else.”

The two hung up the call.

Lu Li pretended to chat idly with Liu Xiuliang and Dr. Henqi for a few moments.

A moment later, Liu Xiuming returned.

Upon entering, he explained the situation and then asked, ”Divine Doctor Lu, would you like to visit Su Cheng University?”

Lu Li stood up, ”Sure, shall we go now?”

Liu Xiuming checked his watch, ”I’ll take you there.”

...

They arrived at Su Cheng University in an Audi.

Accompanied by Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang.

Lu Li arrived at Su Cheng University’s physics experiment center.

Perhaps Miss Shen didn’t want to miss the opportunity to observe the experiment.

She had Liu Xiuming take Lu Li and Liu Xiuliang directly to the lab.

Before entering, Lu Li, Liu Xiuming, and Liu Xiuliang were asked to change their shoes and clothes.

Lu Li donned a disposable lab coat, switched to lab-specific shoes, and followed the staff into the lab.

Inside.

Lu Li saw that it looked very similar to the experiment centers he had seen in movies.

A large group of people were observing data in front of a supercomputer.

There were also some people looking into the space beyond.

On the other side of the specially designed tempered glass, it was pitch black, with occasional flashes of light.

With Liu Xiuming’s introduction, Lu Li saw 80-year-old Wu Er Mountain surrounded by people, explaining something.

Wu Er Mountain seemed to notice them, but he was busy and only glanced over before returning his attention to the discussion with those around him.

This showed that Wu Er Mountain indeed did not regard Liu Xiuming as important.

At this moment, a vigorous woman with short hair, wearing a lab coat, approached.

She extended her hand to Liu Xiuming, ”Hello, Mr. Liu.”

Liu Xiuming didn’t dare hesitate and shook her hand, ”Hello, Miss Shen.”

Oh, so this is Miss Shen.

Lu Li instinctively observed her.

He saw that the woman was about twenty-eight or twenty-nine years old.

She wasn’t extraordinarily beautiful, just slightly above average looking.

However, her eyes behind the glasses seemed filled with wisdom.

He recalled that physicists generally mature before the age of thirty.

And their peak period is between thirty and sixty.

Which means, Miss Shen here, if she is a theoretical physicist, is about to enter her peak.

Lu Li felt that learning physics from such a physicist ready to reach her peak would definitely be a fortunate opportunity for him.

Liu Xiuming introduced proactively, ”This is my friend Lu Li, Mr. Lu, he’s interested in learning some physics knowledge.”

Miss Shen was quite polite, reaching out her hand again, ”Hello, Mr. Lu, I’m Shen Xia.”

Lu Li shook her hand, ”Hello, Miss Shen.”

They got to know each other briefly.

Shen Xia led the three to the side of the supercomputer display.

She adjusted her glasses frame and said, ”Please wait for a moment, the experiment will end in about an hour.”

Lu Li wasn’t in a hurry, ”Alright, go ahead with your work first.”

Liu Xiuliang asked curiously, ”What experiment are you conducting?”

Shen Xia, focused on the screen, casually introduced, ”Oh, we’re conducting an experiment on the gravitational influence on matter and antimatter. Europe’s already had results from similar experiments last year. We haven’t conducted such experiments in our country, but recently the National Atomic Center extracted some antihydrogen atoms. Our research center obtained some for experiments to see if we can keep up with Europe.”

Lu Li had some understanding of antimatter, knowing that once it comes into contact with matter, it would ”annihilate,” thereby releasing immense energy.

It’s rumored that one gram of antimatter contacting matter can produce approximately 43,000 tons of TNT, similar to a typical atomic bomb’s power, during annihilation.

Beyond that, he knew nothing.

Lu Li asked curiously, ”An experiment on the gravitational influence on matter and antimatter?”

Shen Xia casually explained, ”Yes, using a strong magnetic field of 10,000 Gauss, about a hundred antihydrogen atoms are confined in a twenty-five-centimeter-long vertical apparatus. By slowly weakening the magnetic field strength at both ends of the setup, we detect which end has more annihilation events. If the antihydrogen atoms are influenced by Earth’s gravity like hydrogen atoms, then a certain amount will annihilate at the Earth-facing end. Conversely, it’s predictive.”

Lu Li: ”...”

Liu Xiuming: ”...”

Liu Xiuliang: ”...”

The three were utterly bewildered, not grasping Shen Xia’s explanation.

Lu Li originally wanted to ask more questions.

Who knew, Shen Xia suddenly said, ”The experiment is about to start. I need to record detailed data. I’ll explain in more detail later.”

”You go ahead.”

”We’ll chat later.”

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang politely said.

Lu Li followed with a polite remark, then curiously initiated various super-abilities, peering into the laboratory.

He saw an apparatus inside, similar to what Shen Xia described, seemingly flickering with hundreds of light points.

These points of light were extremely tiny.

Even with Lu Li’s microscopic vision, able to see at a molecular level, he still couldn’t discern the shape of these light points.

He could only vaguely perceive the glow and determine their locations.

Perhaps the instrument was activated.

Quickly, these light points began to move rapidly.

Lu Li clearly saw intermittent annihilations of three to five light points of slightly different colors, causing the apparatus to flash.

Soon after.

The experiment was over.

Shen Xia carefully scrutinized the data, shaking her head.

Clearly, she seemed dissatisfied.

Initially, Lu Li didn’t know why she was dissatisfied.

Until he overheard the voices of Wu Er Mountain and some physicists discussing, he vaguely understood.

”We still haven’t captured the gravitational acceleration of antihydrogen atoms under Earth’s gravity.”

”It’s unrealistic to capture data quickly; we’ve only conducted a few experiments. Europe did eighteen months of continuous observation, with 24,000 comparisons before acquiring detailed data.”

”Yes, we have gained insights. The data we’ve obtained can be used for calculations.”

”These data might not be very accurate, but once calculated, they can be compared with future experimental data. I anticipate that after 10,000 foundational comparisons, the data will approach authenticity.”

Although they were discussing quietly, Lu Li’s powerful hearing enabled him to hear everything.

He found it a bit strange.

Aren’t they simply measuring the gravitational acceleration on antihydrogen atoms under Earth’s influence?

Couldn’t precise scientific instruments discern what I observed using a microscopic eye?

Furthermore, during the experiment, Lu Li clearly saw approximately eighty percent of the antihydrogen atoms escaping from the bottom.

Yet this data didn’t seem to appear on the monitor.

He wondered if these physicists still needed to calculate it.

Nonetheless, Lu Li didn’t quite understand this, so he refrained from speaking out.

Shen Xia recorded some data, then turned and said, ”Today’s experiment is about done. The professor might chat with everyone a bit; Mr. Liu, Mr. Lu, let’s talk outside.”

Liu Xiuming responded, ”Sure, let’s talk outside.”

They started walking out.

Liu Xiuming, quite concerned, asked, ”How were the results of the experiment just now?”

Shen Xia, with hands in the pockets of her white lab coat, smiled and said, ”Today we just used the ’Penning trap’ for the experiment. The data acquired for now isn’t detailed enough. For example, exactly how many antihydrogen atoms escaped from the bottom and the gravitational acceleration, it might take tens of thousands of experiments to draw a conclusion.”

Lu Li blinked and said, ”There were a hundred antihydrogen atoms in the ’Penning trap’ just now, right?”

Shen Xia replied, ”Yes.”

Lu Li casually remarked, ”I think I saw eighty antihydrogen atoms escape from the bottom, and the gravitational acceleration should be over a hundred meters per second, more or less.”

You observed that?

Su Cheng University’s advanced instruments couldn’t even observe that; how could you?

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang smiled in disbelief, thinking Lu Li was just spouting nonsense.

However, as that thought formed, Shen Xia, who was walking towards the lab’s entrance, suddenly turned her head towards Lu Li, asking in disbelief, ”Are you sure the data you observed is accurate?”

Ah?

What does Miss Shen mean by this?

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang were taken aback, wondering if Lu Li was right.

Lu Li carefully recalled the state computed by his microscopic vision.

While he couldn’t see the exact shape of the particles, he could see the motion trajectory of the light points, which seemed correct.

He nodded lightly, ”Yes, the number of antihydrogen atoms escaping from the bottom should be very accurate. As for gravitational acceleration, it was my estimation, not necessarily accurate.”

Shen Xia couldn’t help but gasp, ”Your estimation is entirely accurate!”
