Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 165: Chapter 155: Asian Gambling King

Although Lu Li doesn’t like using his brain, it doesn’t mean he’s brainless.

He sensed that the gambling match Ye Xiaobing mentioned seemed a bit too coincidental.

Therefore, Lu Li wondered if this so-called match was a setup by Cheng Rong.

To know if it’s a setup, others might not have a way.

But with his telepathy, he could completely find out the situation.

With this thought, Lu Li quietly activated his telepathy.

He pretended to be surprised and asked, ”President Cheng organized such a big match, his connections are really vast.”

Ye Xiaobing kept smiling and said, ”President Cheng is indeed very influential, otherwise he wouldn’t have fifteen VIP rooms on this side of Macau. However, this gambling match wasn’t deliberately organized by him; it just so happened that a few tycoons met and spontaneously wanted to play.”

In the next moment, her inner thoughts were transmitted: ”There aren’t any tycoons; it’s all a setup by President Cheng’s partners. They invited four or five gambling experts to win back the money you won last night.”

It was indeed a setup for me.

The situation was exactly as he had guessed.

Lu Li laughed right away, ”Will President Cheng be playing too?”

Ye Xiaobing shook her head, ”President Cheng generally doesn’t participate in gambling matches.”

Ye Xiaobing’s inner thought: ”President Cheng cherishes his reputation, how could he possibly collude with those people? He just helps set up the match, and doesn’t deal with anything else.”

Oh, so Cheng Rong wasn’t involved.

He was just the ”accomplice” this time.

Lu Li’s smile grew even brighter.

He pretended to show interest and asked, ”Such a big gambling match, honestly, I’m very interested. Can you ask President Cheng if I can join?”

Ye Xiaobing’s acting was quite good.

She intentionally looked troubled, ”Well... those tycoons are all acquaintances...”

Lu Li egged her on, ”Help me talk to President Cheng, if I win, I’ll make sure to give you a big tip.”

Ye Xiaobing seemed tempted by the money, hesitated for a moment, then gritted her teeth, ”Alright, I’ll call President Cheng, please wait a minute.”

Lu Li nodded, ”Alright, thank you.”

Ye Xiaobing said ”No problem” and temporarily left the room.

Watching her back, Lu Li chuckled lightly.

A setup to win the money back?

If others participated in this match, more than likely they would lose everything.

But it’s a pity that you all don’t know how formidable I am!

To be honest, he initially planned to stop once he won four hundred million Hong Kong Dollars tonight.

Who knew those private bankers were so eager to win back their money, they wanted to send an extra hundred million.

It would be a shame not to earn this money for himself.

Lu Li made up his mind.

Since these people were preparing to cheat.

He didn’t need to play as civilized as he did last night.

Last night, he didn’t use any superpowers except for clairvoyance.

Thinking about it, Lu Li eavesdropped on Ye Xiaobing’s movements.

He realized she was only pretending to leave the room; she didn’t actually call anyone.

He waited for about seven or eight minutes.

Ye Xiaobing came back holding a bottle of high-end red wine.

She smiled broadly, ”I just happened to run into the person delivering the wine, so I brought it along. See if it suits your taste?”

Lu Li took it and saw it was Lehua Xiangbei Domaine Grand Cru Red Wine.

He used to be obsessed with luxury goods.

He knew this wine costs about 100,000.

Looks like Cheng Rong wants me to keep playing, he’s really put in a lot of effort.

Lu Li proactively asked, ”What did President Cheng say?”

Ye Xiaobing replied, ”He just called—those tycoons were initially reluctant, but upon hearing you won two to three hundred million last night, they relented, expressing a willingness to challenge a master like you. However, they have a rather excessive request, and I’m not sure if you can agree to it.”

Lu Li asked, ”What request?”

Ye Xiaobing calmly replied, ”Their idea is to play big, so you’ll need to be prepared with at least one hundred million to participate.”

The other party didn’t directly mention three hundred million.

It seems sincere.

After all, everyone is putting up one hundred million.

How can they ask anyone else to put up more?

Lu Li understood what was going on; a normal person who lost a hundred million would definitely want to make a comeback, and at that point, as long as there was money, three or four hundred million could follow, and without money, they might even borrow on credit, eventually leading to ruin.

He knew the other party was scheming against him.

But wasn’t he also scheming against them?

Lu Li agreed without hesitation, ”No problem.”

Ye Xiaobing quickly said, ”Alright, around six in the afternoon, I’ll send someone to pick you up.”

Lu Li nodded, ”Good.”

Since the goal was achieved, Ye Xiaobing didn’t say much more and promptly left with a farewell.

...

Night.

Lu Li, Qin Liang, Zhao Chun’ai, and Mei Ruohua, together with Ye Xiaobing, arrived at the Black Card VIP Room.

Initially, he didn’t want to bring Zhao Chun’ai.

But he had previously arranged to play cards with her that night.

Then he encountered the match arranged by Cheng Rong and had to change the plan.

At that time, Lu Li’s idea was to play cards with Zhao Chun’ai the next day if time allowed.

No one expected that hearing about such a high-stakes gambling match piqued the other’s interest greatly, prompting a request to come along ”to widen horizons.”

As for Mei Ruohua, being his ”agent,” she was certainly coming to the scene.

Walking in, Lu Li lowered his voice to Qin Liang, saying, ”Don’t participate in the game tonight.”

Qin Liang was taken aback, asking in an equally low voice, ”Is there something wrong with the game?”

Lu Li responded with a hum, ”Yes.”

Qin Liang frowned, ”Should I use my connections to mess with them?”

Lu Li shook his head and replied, ”No need, I’ll make them regret it.”

Qin Liang thought that made sense; after all, Lu Li was like an Immortal who had achieved enlightenment. What small problem could faze him?

The group chatted casually as they entered the Black Card VIP lounge.

The place was much more luxurious than the usual VIP lounges.

Inside, it was resplendent with gold and jade in glorious splendor.

Every hanging lamp seemed to spill golden light.

The top-notch sofas and carpets.

Chefs were standing by all around.

Additionally, there were dozens of beautiful and handsome service personnel.

The most striking was undoubtedly the Texas Hold’em poker table in the center.

It seemed just like the world championship final table.

It even had a projection feature.

Very high-end and classy.

The six chairs next to the poker table seemed to be custom-made as well.

Lu Li didn’t even have to sit to tell that the chairs were very comfortable.

”Mr. Lu, these are the people you’ll be playing cards with tonight.”

Cheng Rong smiled as he pointed to the five people already seated, introducing them one by one.

Lu Li got to know them one by one.

The beautiful woman sitting next to him was named Zheng Ya.

Openly, her identity was introduced as a successful businesswoman.

But in truth, she was a well-known master cheat in the Hong Kong-Macau area.

Lu Li couldn’t help but take another look at the beauty in her late twenties.

Although she wore a women’s suit, her form-fitting suit and white shirt couldn’t hide her impressive figure.

She bore a slight resemblance to a younger Zhou Huimin, but lacked her pure innocence, instead carrying a hint of allure.

The thirty-something young man named Zhao Haizhe looked quite average.

His open identity was a big boss in the shipping business, but in truth, he too was a top cheat.

He once blatantly cheated at the Golden Sands Casino without being caught, which shows how high his skill level is.

Suqi was a sweet-looking young woman, also in her late twenties. Although she was sweet-looking and dressed provocatively, she couldn’t compare to Zheng Ya. Her open identity was being in the transnational trade business, but she was also a cheat.

The blonde white man wearing sunglasses and a black T-shirt was named Greg, looking about thirty-four or thirty-five. His open identity was a British second-generation rich kid. Needless to say, he too was a master cheat.

Even if Lu Li didn’t know these people’s exact identities, he could tell from the information previously obtained from Ye Xiaobing that their cheating skills were very advanced.

As for the last person, Lu Li didn’t recognize him.

However, Qin Liang listened and was quite shocked.

”This old gentleman is named Zhang Jianmin, and he is specialized in the investment industry,” Cheng Rong introduced with a smile.

Zhang Jianmin?

Qin Liang’s face changed immediately.

Many people might find the name unfamiliar, but he was well acquainted.

Reportedly, Zhang Jianmin became famous all over Asia in the early 1990s, dubbed as the first Gambling King of Asia.

His cheating skills were said to be god-like, reportedly so adept that even high-speed cameras had a hard time capturing him swapping cards.

Because of this, Zhang Jianmin made billions through cheating in the 1990s.

Later, after certain incidents, Zhang Jianmin had to leave the gambling scene.

Thus, his legend gradually faded with time, and many people don’t know about him at all.

The reason Qin Liang knew of him was that he knew a rather adept cheat who had mentioned him occasionally.

He felt that Lu Li might have a bit of trouble trying to win money from Zhang Jianmin tonight.

However, Qin Liang only thought there might be a bit of trouble and still firmly believed that Lu Li would definitely win money.

After all, he was only a cheat.

How could he compare with someone akin to an Immortal?

Lu Li didn’t know Zhang Jianmin’s identity, but even if he did, he wouldn’t worry.

He shook hands with Zhang Jianmin, ”Mr. Zhang, nice to meet you.”

”Nice to meet you too.”

Zhang Jianmin extended his hand and shook hands with Lu Li as well.

Then, to maintain fairness and impartiality, those not participating in the game were invited to sit on the couches on the side.

There were displays there that allowed everyone to see every bit of the game process.

As they spoke, several staff members came up holding trays full of chips.

These staff members respectfully placed the chips on the table in front of Lu Li and the others.

The smallest chip was in denominations of a hundred thousand, and the largest was in denominations of a million.

Lu Li looked at the few competitors next to him, likely cheats, feeling his blood boiling.

Just looking at these chips, he knew how much could be won or lost tonight.

He had made up his mind, since these people were cheats, he’d definitely bleed them dry, aiming to win four or five billion!

How much he could win depended on how ruthless he was tonight!

Lu Li flashed a grin; his heart... was always ruthless!
