Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 150: Chapter 139: I Want to Improve So Badly

In the morning, a light drizzle.

Despite staying up late last night, Lu Li still got up early.

He was brushing his teeth in the bathroom, ”Ever since the second deep evolution, I seem to feel very spirited after just a brief rest. From last night till now, I’ve only slept for about four hours, yet it’s no different from usual?”

Normally, sleep plays a crucial role in body recovery.

For example, enhancing immunity, promoting the release of growth hormones, maintaining cardiovascular health, and regulating the central nervous system, among others.

”Aside from me becoming stronger, there’s certainly a connection to sleep quality too.”

Lu Li recalled the scenes of sleeping, seemingly like under general anesthesia, never like Liu Peilin...

Eh!

Wait a minute!

Ever since my second deep evolution, I haven’t had any dreams while sleeping?

Most critically, every time I wake up, I don’t need an alarm clock. As long as I think about when to wake up before sleeping, I usually wake up around that time the next day?

Lu Li vaguely understood something, ”There’s a good chance that every time I sleep, I fall into deep or even very deep sleep, and the body should have an innate ability to sense external changes.”

Human sleep is generally divided into five types: light sleep, mild sleep, deep sleep, very deep sleep, and rapid eye movement sleep.

Light sleep is the transition from being awake to sleeping, the body begins to relax, and heart rate and breathing gradually slow down. Although easily awakened by external stimuli, like some people’s loud snores could rouse them from light sleep, this stage is a necessary path to deeper sleep.

Lu Li mused, ”For most people, light sleep usually lasts five to ten minutes, but for me, as soon as I close my eyes, it seems I immediately fall asleep, which means my light sleep might only last a few seconds.”

During mild sleep, heart rate and breathing slow further, muscles relax, and the body temperature drops. For most, this stage accounts for about sixty percent of the entire sleep cycle and is the longest stage spent each night.

”I seem to enter this state almost as soon as I close my eyes.”

Lu Li speculated, ”Could it be that my light sleep immediately transitions into mild sleep, and then into deep sleep or even very deep sleep?”

He deemed it very likely; otherwise, his recovery ability couldn’t be so strong.

For example, just after his second deep evolution, he went to Peng Erping’s factory, lifting large crates with impact forces up to two to three tons, and then used a large amount of energy rays to save someone. He was utterly exhausted, but after sleeping for three or four hours, his body returned to its peak.

Such a massive energy expenditure is akin to someone who never exercises, suddenly running a full marathon. Ordinarily, recovery might take seven or eight days.

Yet he recovered with just three to four hours of sleep?

Lu Li knew that his sleep wasn’t just deep sleep; he might have entered very deep sleep, and during sleep, various repair factors within were released at tenfold or even hundredfold the normal rate.

”If I could control the release of these repair factors, does it mean I could recover quickly, even without sleep?”

This was something he didn’t know yet, but he could explore evolving the ability to control these repair factors later.

Regardless, Lu Li was clear about one thing: unlocking the genetic lock affected his body comprehensively, rather than just enhancing one particular aspect.

In other words, passive evolution follows the natural increase in body strength, so he would need to self-test to know any new abilities he has developed.

Active evolution is different; it is something he can immediately perceive, but it can disrupt physical balance, forcing the body to evolve passively to a higher level.

Two things could happen as a result.

First, he might enter the next stage of deep evolution faster, albeit requiring more energy.

For instance, since days ago, he had been hinting at evolving shape-shifting, promoting his own growth.

The second is negative. Lu Li could foresee that if his energy couldn’t keep up, or if the Little Golden Man couldn’t drive his physical body and handle issues timely, his body could collapse.

This had actually begun to show signs before and after the second deep evolution.

Before the second deep evolution, he urgently needed to replenish his energy, and afterward, he developed the ability for his skin and pores to absorb free energy from the air, temporarily resolving the issue. But the new problem was that the Little Golden Man couldn’t drive his physical body until he learned certain Daoist knowledge about the soul, finally stabilizing the situation.

These were just issues encountered during the second deep evolution.

If, in the third, fourth, or fifth deep evolution, his body remained imbalanced and the required energy was still immense, and he couldn’t handle the issues timely, wouldn’t he just drop dead?

Thinking of this, Lu Li roughly had an understanding, ”According to my current predictions, active evolution is possible, but it shouldn’t overly affect physical balance. For instance, shape-shifting greatly affects balance and requires vast energy, considered a ’super-stage’ superpower. I originally shouldn’t have attempted to develop it, unlike things like x-ray vision, which are merely single-part evolutions, and the body has time to digest and catch up.”

You have to take things step by step; you can’t become fat with one big bite.

Lu Li quickly made a decision in his mind, ”Temporarily stop evolving shape-shifting. Try again after the third deep evolution, otherwise, the body may face significant issues moving forward.”

Anyway, the current state of his shape-shifting is sufficient. Constant development might waste an unquantifiable amount of vast time, so it’s better to halt it temporarily and evolve other superpowers.

Thinking of this, he hinted to himself to temporarily cease developing the shape-shifting technique.

For some reason, after making this decision, he felt immensely relieved.

This sense of relief was partly psychological, and partly... it seemed the Little Golden Man sighed with relief too.

”It seems my decision was correct.” Lu Li rinsed the toothbrush and cup clean. ”Moreover, by pausing the development of transformation skills, I have more time to develop a single superpower, which won’t significantly affect the balance.”

For himself, this is definitely good news.

If he constantly developed transformation skills, other superpowers couldn’t be developed, taking up too much ”memory.”

The development of a single superpower can slightly promote the body to keep up, making it easier for him to enter the next level of deep evolution.

Finally, Lu Li had a clear path for his evolution.

After figuring it out, he felt refreshed.

Then, he changed out of his pajamas, put on a T-shirt and jeans, and headed next door.

...

Liu Family.

Lu Li had just completed the second treatment for Elder Liu and was being warmly welcomed by the brothers Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang.

Dr. Henqi was also there, having stayed to ”learn.”

Perhaps some time had passed since his second deep evolution, accumulating a lot of energy in his body.

This time, the treatment Lu Li performed for Elder Liu did not leave him as exhausted as the previous time.

In the main hall.

Lu Li sat at the seat of honor, drinking tea and chatting casually with Liu Xiuming, Liu Xiuliang, and Dr. Henqi.

”Divine Doctor Lu, thank you so much for making another trip.”

”Haha, it’s no trouble at all; as the saying goes, once you start helping someone, you should see it through to the end. Since I promised to treat the old man, I definitely need to cure him.”

”Mr. Lu, do you take students? Could I learn from you?”

”Dr. Henqi, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to teach medical skills for now.”

After chatting for a bit.

Lu Li prepared to say his goodbyes and then buy more books on physics and chemistry for careful study.

Before he could stand up, Liu Xiuming enthusiastically invited, ”Divine Doctor Lu, do you have any plans today? If not, could my brother and I host you for a meal?”

Liu Xiuliang also looked over with eager eyes.

Lu Li politely refused, stating the truth, ”I’m currently learning about physics and chemistry, so I may not have time to attend a banquet.”

”Learning physics and chemistry?” Liu Xiuming was taken aback, ”Are you preparing for graduate school or...”

Lu Li laughed, ”I’m just interested in this area, especially physics. If you know any knowledgeable professors, you could introduce them to me.”

This was said casually without a real expectation of an introduction.

To his surprise, after exchanging glances with Liu Xiuliang, Liu Xiuming immediately responded, ”I do happen to know a prominent figure in Huaxia’s physics community. He was a disciple of the greatest living physicist in the world, Mr. Yang Zhenning. He conducted research on quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton in his early years, later returned to the country with Elder Yang, and is now retired but occasionally invited to give lectures and guide physics research at Su Cheng University.”

Hmm?

For Liu Xiuming to call someone a prominent figure?

Lu Li knew that this physicist must be a big deal.

He couldn’t help but be intrigued and asked quickly, ”May I ask who this gentleman is?”

Liu Xiuming said, ”His name is Wu Er Mountain. If you are interested in physics, you should have heard of this name, right?”

Lu Li indeed knew this person.

Wu Er Mountain, reputedly only a step away from winning the Nobel Prize in Physics, had made significant contributions to global physics.

Such a person is undoubtedly of national treasure status.

And people with this kind of status can almost ignore someone of Liu Xiuming’s rank and influence.

Regarding how Liu Xiuming knew Mr. Wu, Lu Li guessed it might be a personal connection.

In any case, if he could talk with such a top physicist, it would surely be immensely enlightening for him.

Thinking of this, Lu Li eagerly said, ”Then please trouble Mr. Liu to help contact Teacher Wu.”

Liu Xiuming took out his phone, smiling, ”Sure, I’ll make a call and see if he’s available.”

Lu Li silently hoped that Mr. Wu would be free; he really wanted to make progress!
