Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 190: Chapter 193: Astonishing Data

FAW.

As soon as President Liu got out of the car, he rushed into the laboratory excitedly.

He originally thought he had arrived quite early.

However, upon arrival, he found that Vice President Hu, Engineer Xu, and Wang Jun were already there.

President Liu couldn’t wait to ask, ”Has the sample been delivered?”

Engineer Xu replied, ”It has arrived. Since it was produced urgently, the steel plant didn’t have time to test all the data. I’ve sent someone to test the data.”

President Liu also wanted to know the exact data, but he understood that this matter couldn’t be rushed, so he could only sit there and wait.

Wang Jun and the other engineers almost all stayed up all night like President Liu.

Even though their bodies were tired at this moment, they were all highly excited at the thought of soon learning the data of the steel designed by Lu Li.

After waiting for a long time, the sun had already risen outside.

At this moment, a young woman in a work uniform came in from the outside, holding a stack of documents.

Upon seeing the young woman, Engineer Xu immediately stood up and asked, ”Xiaosun, are the test results out?”

President Liu, Vice President Hu, Wang Jun, and the others also quickly stood up.

The synchronized movement of dozens of people startled Xiaosun.

She meekly said, ”They are out.”

Engineer Xu couldn’t wait to snatch the documents and began reading them intently.

Although President Liu also wanted to know, as a leader, he couldn’t act impolitely.

Thus, President Liu tried to look calm as he asked, ”Engineer Xu, how’s the data?”

Vice President Hu, Wang Jun, and in fact dozens of engineers were all ears, afraid of missing anything.

What puzzled everyone was that Engineer Xu, usually quick to respond, didn’t answer a word this time upon hearing the leader’s question.

This left Wang Jun, Vice President Hu, and others intrigued, causing them to look at Engineer Xu’s face involuntarily.

That look revealed everything.

Everyone noticed that Engineer Xu’s face was already filled with astonishment.

Hmm?

Was Engineer Xu so shocked?

Could the data be so terrifying?

Vice President Hu could hardly contain himself, ”Hey, Engineer Xu, say something.”

It was only then that Engineer Xu raised his head, his tone slightly trembling as he looked at Xiaosun, stammering, ”Are you... are you sure these numbers are correct? Or could it be that you tested the wrong metal?”

Xiaosun smiled bitterly, ”Engineer Xu, I didn’t make a mistake, nor did I record it wrong. To be honest, I was even more shocked than you when I first saw these numbers.”

Everyone was driven mad with curiosity watching the two exchange cryptic remarks.

Wang Jun really couldn’t hold back, leaning forward and exclaiming, ”What kind of data is it that has you both this...”

He hadn’t finished his sentence before he suddenly exclaimed ”Holy crap!”

President Liu quickly asked, ”Engineer Wang, what’s wrong?”

Wang Jun, still in shock, pointed to the data recorded on the document, ”This... this tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, melting point, they’re all just too incredible!”

Among the crowd, a pudgy male engineer in his fifties asked, ”What’s the tensile strength?”

Wang Jun, with a trembling voice, said, ”2... between 2015 Mpa and 2350 Mpa.”

”What!?”

”Between 2015 Mpa and 2350 Mpa?”

”My God, Old Wang, are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?”

”The natural metal with the highest yield strength, tungsten, only has a yield strength between 1960 Mpa and 2450 Mpa. You’re saying this new type of steel has a tensile strength between 2015 Mpa and 2350 Mpa?”

A group of engineers was utterly shocked.

Wang Jun smiled bitterly, ”I wish I had seen it wrong, but that’s indeed the recorded data.”

Upon hearing this, not only were the knowledgeable engineers surprised.

Even President Liu and Vice President Hu, who weren’t as knowledgeable, felt a shiver down their spines.

They couldn’t believe such high tensile strength.

A female engineer in her forties asked with a bit of apprehension, ”What about the yield strength?”

Everyone once again perked up their ears, wanting to hear the yield strength data.

Generally speaking, the yield strength should be slightly lower than the tensile strength.

Nobody knew exactly by how much, so all eyes were on Wang Jun.

Wang Jun, amazed, stated the number, ”Yield strength... 1950 Mpa.”

As soon as the words were out, the crowd buzzed even more.

”Oh my God!”

”Yield strength 1950 Mpa?”

”Doesn’t that mean this new type of steel’s yield strength is almost comparable to tungsten?”

”Though tungsten has high yield strength, it’s rather brittle and prone to damage upon impact. This new type’s tensile strength is so high, it obviously doesn’t have such a problem. It’s terrifying, absolutely terrifying!”

”If the steel with such high strength is used in aerospace, it would surely push the aerospace industry forward by a giant leap!”

All the engineers were in a flurry of astonishment, unable to believe the new type of steel designed by Lu Li could have such high tensile and yield strengths.

President Liu seemed to think of something and quickly asked, ”What’s the hardness?”

Wang Jun remained silent, still with a doubtful look in his eyes.

President Liu was anxious, ”Old Wang, what are you daydreaming about, speak up quickly.”

In the end, it was Engineer Xu who took over the conversation. He, too, said with an expression of disbelief, ”The hardness of this new type of steel has reached over HRC70. Well, as you know, HRC can only test up to 70, which means this is the limit of the HRC scale, not the limit of this new type of steel. As for the absolute hardness, it has exceeded the maximum measurable 3000 degrees. Preliminary analysis suggests that the absolute hardness of this new steel might be more than four times that of ordinary high-speed steel!”

The laboratory, which was buzzing with noise, suddenly fell silent.

Everyone’s eyes were wide open.

Based on this data analysis, the hardness of this new type of steel is likely to exceed that of aerospace aluminum.

The hardness of aerospace aluminum is generally between 150HB-180HB.

Therefore, the hardness of this new steel is likely to be above 200HB.

Are we insane?

Is this really just steel for manufacturing internal combustion engine bearings?

It would definitely be more than enough for aerospace applications!

In everyone’s mind, an incredible thought flashed.

What if this steel were used in the aerospace industry?

It would surely shine brightly there!

Actually, Huaxia isn’t lacking in high-intensity super steel.

For instance, as early as 2018, the country successfully developed 2200Mpa super steel.

In the last two years, even 3200Mpa strength super steel was developed.

However, whether it is the former or the latter, the manufacturing costs are very high, making mass production rather difficult.

What about the super steel developed by Lu Li?

Its strength is not at all inferior to the super steel developed through national effort.

Moreover, in terms of chemical composition and material ratios, its cost is not much different from ordinary steel.

What does this represent?

It means it can be mass-produced anytime, anywhere!

This kind of high-strength steel can theoretically withstand ultra-high pressure 2000 meters underwater. Imagine what a great help it would be to the aerospace and defense industries!

Of course, it is still uncertain whether it can be used in aerospace.

After all, data like melting point and corrosion resistance are still unknown to everyone.

President Liu tried to remain calm and asked, ”What about the melting point?”

Engineer Xu said, ”Two to three thousand degrees.”

President Liu: ”...”

Vice President Hu: ”...”

The rest of the people: ”...”

Everyone knows that the re-entry capsule enters the atmosphere at ultra-high speed, and the friction generates temperatures of only around two thousand degrees.

Based on this melting point, it can totally be used for aerospace purposes.

President Liu, Vice President Hu, and all the other engineers were truly stunned to the point of not knowing what to say.

They quickly pursued further questions about a series of data, including corrosion resistance.

The final answer was that this new type of steel, except for hardness, does not match the newly developed 3200Mpa super steel. In almost all other aspects, it surpasses the steel currently on the market...no, including those used in the aerospace industry!

The key point is that its production cost is extremely low!

President Liu and Vice President Hu were both breathless.

They could imagine the kind of rewards they would receive if they reported this new type of steel to higher-ups.

They could even foresee how much help this would bring to their country’s aerospace undertakings, submarines, and such.

It’s certain that their country would be far ahead of the world!

At this moment, President Liu felt uneasy sitting down and hurriedly asked, ”Which hotel is Mr. Lu staying at? I’ll go visit him right away.”

President Liu did not converse much with Lu Li yesterday.

After all, his status and position are ’lofty’.

It’s only natural for him not to have taken the initiative to make friends.

However, after hearing about the data of this new steel today, President Liu couldn’t help but secretly regret that he hadn’t made an acquaintance with Lu Li last night.

Vice President Hu had nearly the same feelings as President Liu, filled with regret, thinking that if he had made friends with Lu Li earlier, maybe getting authorization would have been easier.

Wang Jun quickly asked, ”Are you going to find him now?”

President Liu was impatient, ”Of course, I’m going to find him now. What if he runs away later?”

Wang Jun, who is somewhat straightforward, hesitated and said, ”But didn’t Mr. Lu say we should design the ball bearings according to his design and then talk after testing?”

President Liu looked at him speechlessly, ”All the data of this steel have been tested. Do you think it can’t meet the stringent requirements of an internal combustion engine running at 150,000 rpm?”

Wang Jun thought about it and agreed, his heart suddenly becoming excited, ”I know which hotel he’s staying at, President Liu. I’ll take you there.”

President Liu was in such a hurry, ”Let’s go, go, go. Old Wang, let’s quickly find Mr. Lu and make sure he authorizes this steel to our company.”

Hmm, there was something he hadn’t said.

President Liu wanted to persuade Lu Li not to disclose the chemical composition and production process of this new type of steel, and it would be best to give it to the country.

Wang Jun didn’t know President Liu’s thoughts, but he was somewhat secretly regretting it too.

If he had known that the new steel designed by Mr. Lu was so amazing and could meet the stringent requirement of 150,000 rpm for Escherichia coli, he should have agreed to him yesterday, rather than waiting for the data to come out.

He’s really afraid that Lu Li might go find some other engine design engineer.

If that happened, he would truly miss the chance to make his name!
