Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 508: Chapter 218, Eavesdropping_2

”Shh, Surya, don’t jump to conclusions.” Laine’s expression shifted multiple times as he recalled his previous discussion with Francois about whether the vampires and undead mages were searching for something.

Turns out they really are!

Outside, Mathew Bade and Fiona continued their conversation. Mathew Bade sighed helplessly, ”In the end, I still failed, just by a little, just that tiny bit. After all, I’ve just advanced to legendary, my state is unstable, but I cannot wait. I’m already 24 this year; I certainly won’t be able to compete in the next knight tournament.”

”Hmph~ What good does it do telling me this? Runner-up is just runner-up.” Fiona crossed her arms with a ”hmph,” turned her head, and deliberately gave Mathew Bade a cold shoulder.

The girl’s tone softened a lot. Though she’s a very proud and ill-tempered duchess’s granddaughter, she’s ultimately well-educated. Seeing Mathew Bade’s dejected appearance, she thought of his attentiveness and care throughout the journey and felt a bit upset. She still turned her head, eyeing Mathew Bade sideways: ”What, giving up already?”

”Sigh, this was my last chance. My godfather once had high hopes for me, but I failed. Being second is okay, but I can feel his disappointment.” Mathew Bade shook his head repeatedly.

”A loser is a loser, so what if you failed this time? Just win it back next time. Mathew Bade, Surya only won by luck, I... Ah!” Fiona stomped hard on the wooden floor, intending to berate the young ranger knight, but the floor caved in slightly. She screamed and was about to fall, but Mathew Bade quickly caught her.

The atmosphere suddenly became a bit awkward.

Fiona’s face turned crimson, and she stammered nervously, ”You... you... what are you trying to do, Mathew Bade? I’m warning you, don’t you dare! I’ll scream!”

”Go ahead and scream, no one else is here,” Mathew Bade slowly approached the nervous girl.

”I’m warning you, Mathew Bade, if you come any closer, I’ll... I’ll...” Fiona’s face flushed red as she kept backing away.

Behind the large cabinet in the corner, Laine couldn’t help but chuckle as he held the lady knight’s delicate body in his arms, laughing, ”What a show.”

”Laine!” Surya playfully scolded as she lightly tapped Laine’s shoulder. The lady knight was afraid of hurting him, so she used very little force: ”We can’t just watch them do... do that kind of thing in the windmill.”

”Mathew Bade is a smart guy; he wouldn’t dare.”

And just as Fiona retreated step by step, resigning herself against the railing, there was the sound of a door opening on the first floor of the windmill again.

A young noble knight dragged a noblewoman in: ”Come on, Sophie, it’s Holy Grail Day, no one will be in the windmill!”

”Oh, my, Christopher, slow down, you’ll tear my dress like this!”

Bursting onto the first floor of the windmill, not even closing the door, the pair of adulterers couldn’t wait to start ravishing each other.

The atmosphere became even more awkward. Fiona quickly pretended to be inspecting the windmill, loudly asking Mathew Bade what the central shaft was used for.

Her voice startled the adulterous pair who had started unbuttoning their clothes on the first floor.

An embarrassing encounter ensued, and Mathew Bade and Fiona had to come down from the second floor. Both ladies’ faces were very red, sporting embarrassed yet polite smiles, while Mathew Bade and the nobleman called Christopher awkwardly shook hands in greeting.

With things as they were, it was no longer conducive to continue their rendezvous. Mathew Bade and Fiona left the windmill together, and the subsequent adulterers also lost interest and hurried away, seemingly off to find another place.

Only then did Laine and Surya emerge from behind the large cabinet on the second floor.

”Alright, Laine, let go of me now.” The lady knight reluctantly pulled away from Laine’s embrace, her face showing some regret and a bit of shyness: ”I’ve been out too long, I should head back.”

”Surya, many things happened today, but don’t rush to conclusions on some matters. First, inform Mr. Francois about this, see what he says. Also, don’t tell Yuri first, he’ll definitely go straight to find trouble with Mr. Theodoric.” Laine instructed Surya, holding her hand.

”I understand, Laine, you be careful too.” Surya reached out, holding Laine’s large hands, and bid farewell to him.

Being able to meet like this today was already very satisfying for the duchess’s daughter, especially for the pleasant time inside the windmill: ”Laine, I might first return to the Duchy with my father and brother. Take good care of your injury, don’t rush to move.”

”Yes, I understand.” Once more, Laine embraced the lady knight. After a lingering kiss, Surya left with a blushing face.

......

When Laine returned to the Holy Grail Cathedral, the festive atmosphere was in full swing. Upon seeing Laine, everyone saluted, paying tribute to this hero of the Knight Kingdom.

Laine responded politely, but his steps were somewhat hurried as he walked towards the interior of the Holy Grail Cathedral.

He still felt a bit weak.

Since he could walk again, Amelia had been driven out of the Holy Grail Cathedral by Mogiana, under the pretext of ”no longer needing someone to care for him.” Amelia had to move out again, and Laine advised her to follow Surya.

Opened his own room door, the furnishings were still luxurious as ever. Mogiana was sitting in the middle of the room, looking at some documents. Hearing Laine return, the Lake God Witch lifted her head, her long gray dress’s hem dragged along the thick carpet: ”Happy festival, I thought you’d come back later.”

”Went out for a stroll, getting some fresh air was good; couldn’t stay out too long, feeling a bit tired.” Laine exhaled and then sat down.

”Rest a bit longer, after the Kingdom’s fiscal budget meeting in late April, you’ll come south with me.” Mogiana was reading a Magic Book and said to Laine, who was sitting to the side: ”Though you can move on your own now, you still need more rest.”

”Still so long?” Laine thought to himself that it’s only early April now; according to Mogiana’s plan, wouldn’t he have to stay in the Holy Grail Cathedral for nearly twenty more days?

The Lake God Witch’s turquoise eyes shot out a dangerous gleam: ”Laine, you are the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lady. I know your recovery power is strong, but I still have to ensure you are fully recovered before letting you leave. During this time, staying by my side is the safest for you.”

”Perhaps so, but...” Laine wanted to say something.

”No buts, that’s settled.” Mogiana gave Laine no chance to object.

”Alright, it seems I need to inform Lops and Hex to stay longer in Kulona.” Seeing Mogiana’s firm attitude, Laine had no choice but to compromise. It’s not that he’s weak or easily gives in, rather Mogiana truly cares for him.

”I also wish you a happy festival, my Lord.” Laine took out a gift box: ”This is your festival gift.”

”What’s this?” Mogiana opened the gift box, revealing a sapphire silver bracelet inside.

Before coming to Kulona, Laine prepared many gifts, including a bottle of wine for each member of the Holy Grail Knight Division, and some small gifts for the bishops and priests of the Holy Grail Cathedral, naturally including one for Mogiana.

Mainly because he was severely injured after the battle, he put this matter aside. Today, he took the opportunity to give it to Mogiana as a festival gift.

”...Thank you, and happy festival, Divine Champion.” Mogiana immediately put the bracelet on her fair wrist. Her expression showed no change, and the Lake God Witch stood up somewhat hastily from the chair: ”I’ll go check how the dinner preparations are going; Clement has been a bit sluggish.”

”By the way, my lord, there’s something I need to report to you after dinner.” Laine didn’t suspect anything and continued, ”It’s very important, about the ’Night of Blood’ you encountered in the Borelion Duchy last time; I seem to have different clues on my side.”

”Then you should tell me now! Don’t wait until after dinner!” Mogiana immediately expressed her displeasure to Laine: ”Please prioritize accordingly.”

Thus, Laine relayed the information he overheard in the windmill to Mogiana.

”Traitor!!”
