Warhammer Divine Throne

Chapter 506: Chapter 217, Windmill and Cookies_2

”...I admit, at that time when I discovered that only I could remain unscathed in the poison mist, and when I saw that the Holy Grail Knights were more or less wounded, I did have such thoughts.” Laine finally spoke, he smiled bitterly: ”You’re right, I did want to prevent further casualties among the knights, so I had the idea of immediately deciding the outcome with the Great Nurgle Demon.”

”There was no need for you to do that, Laine.”

”Yes, I understand.” Laine reflected internally, accepting Surya’s suggestion; his choice was indeed somewhat irresponsible, and recklessly putting himself in danger was equally irresponsible to those who cared about him.

Seeing that Laine had listened, the female knight beamed a bright smile and held Laine’s hand: ”I’m also very worried about you.”

”Me too.” Laine said softly, eyes closed.

Some things were settled at that moment.

After a while, Surya suddenly suggested to Laine: ”Would you like to see what’s inside the windmill?”

”Is this an invitation?” Laine returned from his daze, the Divine Chosen Champion stood up, a slightly naughty smile on his face.

The female knight’s face turned scarlet instantly: ”What are you talking about, Laine! Actually, I’ve never been inside either.”

In this world, windmills and mills are workplaces for peasants, but for the nobles, they are romantic places~

Why are they romantic places?

Well, Laine only understood somewhat, he had merely heard rumors, it is said that many noble ladies or women like to be with lovers or romances inside windmills or mills, well, doing this and that.

”Come on!” The female knight playfully pushed him, then took the initiative to lead Laine into the windmill.

Today is a public holiday, so no peasants would be inside the windmill milling flour, so when Laine gently pushed open the wooden door, the windmill interior was empty.

”Come on in, come on in, this is my first time inside a windmill, this is what the inside of a windmill looks like!” Surya’s heart was filled with a strange thrill, the duke’s daughter held Laine’s hand, exploring the interior of the windmill.

The inside of the windmill was almost entirely wooden structure; the first sight was a giant millstone and mixing equipment, a window on the second floor provided some faint lighting, but the light was still quite dim, and the high heels of the female knight and Laine’s leather boots made unpleasant noises on the wooden floor.

The indoor air was not pleasant, full of flour, various grains, and even minerals’ smell, and there were several barrels of dirty water.

But this was not important to Surya. She had never been to such a place—this enclosed environment and dim lighting opened her eyes, accustomed as she was to castles and manors. She kept pestering Laine with questions, wanting to know what these things were used for, and Laine answered each one.

When they reached the second floor, what appeared before them was a large gear structure, tightly integrated, turning with the wind blades outside under the wind’s force.

”Due to different functions, almost all windmills have unique designs; it’s hard to find identical ones. Observing the placement of wind blades is also quite interesting. According to a scholar’s study, a cross with the blades indicates a work pause, a cross means long-term stoppage, a rightward tilt means a happy event in the village, and a leftward tilt signifies a funeral. Windmills leverage wind power to transmit force through blades, bearings, and gears to the lower millstone or mixer, etc., replacing manual labor for various tasks.” Laine held Surya’s small hand, smiling as he explained.

”Oh, I see!” Starlight glittered in the female knight’s eyes as she carefully examined the huge transmission shaft.

Then the female knight felt herself embraced from behind.

”Lai...Laine?” In such a confined environment, Surya immediately had an idea of what was happening. Her face showed some shyness but she did not resist. One of Laine’s hands wrapped around her waist from behind, while the other rested on her tender, sleek black silk-clad leg: ”Surya~”

The female knight’s attention was drawn from the transmission shaft. She first turned her head to gaze at Laine’s handsome face for a moment, then closed her eyes.

Lips met.

It was only about a minute before a noise from the first floor startled the young couple into abrupt awareness. The duke’s daughter immediately withdrew from Laine’s embrace, then swiftly burrowed back into his arms, embarrassedly pinching his waist: ”Now I understand why you said windmills are places like this, Laine! The atmosphere here is just so...”

”That’s the environment for you, shh...Surya, quiet, someone’s coming.” Laine, feeling a bit embarrassed himself, held the warmth in his arms and whispered gently.

”Mm!” The female knight nodded, and the two cautiously observed the commotion below.

They saw a young knight, brows furrowed, pushing the door open. His handsome and charming face was filled with enthusiasm yet tinged with some frustration: ”Please, Miss Fiona!”

Following him was a girl about sixteen or seventeen years old, with short golden hair and a beret, wearing a red Brittania noblewoman’s outfit. Her adorable face was full of impatience and bossiness: ”Mathew Bade, you’d better give me an explanation. First, why did you bring me to this place, and what exactly happened to you? Why did you disappear after Borelion? I searched everywhere for you, even had grandpa issue a notice to find you, and yet you show up here in Kulona!”

”Ah, it’s a long story, Miss Fiona.” Mathew Bade nodded hurriedly in a flattering manner.

”Then make it short!” Fiona exclaimed impatiently, the girl irritably surveying the windmill’s interior: ”I have no interest in your long-winded speech!”

”Yes, here’s what happened...” Mathew Bade briefly outlined the events, describing how he intercepted the Vampire Beast and fled towards the library, was ambushed, got injured, and had to escape towards a place with fewer enemies. While being hunted by bats, he jumped into the moat and was swept outside the city.

”You could have come back into Borelion to seek our help!” Fiona, feeling extremely frustrated, shouted at Mathew Bade: ”What do you mean by leaving without a word?”

Fiona’s voice was loud enough that Mathew Bade reflexively tried to close the windmill door, only to find the lock open without a key to secure it, so he gave up: ”Keep your voice down, my lady, let’s go upstairs and continue our talk.”

This startled Laine and Surya, who were hiding and eavesdropping from the second floor. Surya was a bit panicked: ”Oh no, Laine, they’re coming up! If Fiona finds out I’m here hiding and meeting you, she’ll tease me about it forever!”

”Come on, let’s hide behind that cabinet!” Laine quickly found a hiding spot, pulling Surya with him; they suddenly made a footstep on the wooden floor with Surya’s high heel making a ”thunk” sound.

Luckily, due to the wind outside, the large gear structures inside the windmill were turning, and the sound of the gears turning covered up Surya’s noise, so neither Mathew Bade nor Fiona noticed.

”I’ll carry you.” Laine immediately said, the female knight quickly nodded, her face flushed as she wrapped her arms around Laine’s neck, allowing him to pick her up.

Just as the two of them hid behind a cabinet used for storing minerals and tools, Mathew Bade and Fiona reached the second floor: ”Miss Fiona, I know leaving without a word was wrong, but I was wounded at the time and couldn’t fight my way back into the castle with such injuries. I am very sorry for that, so I once vowed to present the Champion’s Trophy of the Knight Tournament to you as a form of apology, but...”

”Heh, but you ended up losing to Surya. Hmph, what a useless man.” Fiona put her hands on her hips, disdain all over her face: ”I don’t care about second place, keep your runner-up trophy for yourself!”

A flash of fury and resentment crossed Mathew Bade’s eyes, but he quickly mastered himself, nodding and bowing: ”Yes, it’s truly regrettable; it’s my fault.”

Fiona watched Mathew Bade, biting her lip, her face reddening. She asked lowly: ”Tell me the truth, Mathew Bade.”

”Did you take the fourth volume of Nagash’s Nine Volumes, which Grandfather hid in the library?”
