What?! Laine and Surya, hiding behind the cabinet, widened their eyes together.

Nagash’s Nine Volumes of the Master of the Undead?

Laine held Surya in his arms, signaling her to continue listening. The female knight didn’t say anything more.

”The Nine Volumes? Nagash? What is that?” Mathew Bade’s voice sounded strange.

”Damn it, Mathew Bade, stop pretending with me.” Fiona’s voice was both tense and questioning: ”The guards told Grandfather that when you appeared in the library, you were indeed under attack, but when you ran into the library, nothing was chasing you!”

”When checking the losses the next day, the fourth volume of the Nine Volumes was missing. Mathew Bade, you are the most suspicious person!” Fiona questioned, her voice filled with strength: ”I’m telling you, Mathew Bade, although many people were suspicious that day, I just think you’re the most suspicious one!!!”

”Hey, my lady, you can’t frame me like this, then I really have nothing to say to you.” Mathew Bade shook his head repeatedly in frustration, complaining: ”I don’t even know what Nagash’s Nine Volumes is. I’ve only heard of the name of the Master of the Undead, Nagash. Even if you tell me about these Nine Volumes, I wouldn’t recognize them!”

”Ah, ah, ah, what a bad luck, first I was defeated at the last moment of victory in the Knight Tournament by high-level combat skill ’Three-Stage Thrust’, and then I’m accused of being a thief by you, Fiona. Did I lift the skirt of Lady Luck, otherwise why am I so unlucky?” Mathew Bade complained repeatedly, he was also furious: ”Do you think I don’t want to win? But Miss Surya is a duke’s daughter, she has the ability to learn such combat skills, I’m not, I’m just an ordinary Ranger Knight, what can I do? And you’re accusing me of stealing, you should present evidence!”

The young Ranger Knight displayed all his frustration and dejection in front of Fiona, as if he were a challenger who had exhausted all efforts but fell at the face of family and lineage, painfully telling Fiona, it’s not that he didn’t want to work hard, it’s just that the opponent was both talented and diligent and had a better family background.

Fiona, with her cute little face showing some wavering, her original intuition had almost determined that everything was Mathew Bade’s doing, but after seeing his expression of pain and frustration, she herself became somewhat unsure.

”Really not you?”

Mathew Bade spread his hands, seeming to have given up resisting.

Fiona looked at Mathew Bade suspiciously for a while, finally gave up, she thought for a while, then suddenly blushed, gritting her teeth she said: ”Then, Mathew Bade, remember, no one is allowed to speak of this matter!”

Duke Theodoric of Borelion came across Nagash’s Nine Volumes by chance when he was leading the duchy’s army in a counterattack against Estalia. In a city in Estalia, inside the City Lord’s basement, he found the fourth volume of Nagash’s Nine Volumes, along with a heap of other books.

Initially, the Duke himself wasn’t aware of what this book was, treating it as just a Magic Book. These books were brought back to Borelion as spoils of war. However, after the court Wizard informed him of the book’s real origin through research, the Duke found himself hesitating.

Theodoric is a devout believer of the Lady, charging into battle while hailing the name of the Lake Fairy. But at the same time, he is a Duke, a ruler of a Duchy. His Duchy had been torn apart through endless warfare with Estalia. The Duchy’s current population was under 350,000 people, and the once-enrolled 3,000 Knights had dwindled to under 2,000. The unending wars with Estalia left him feeling frustrated and hopeless, he needed some other powers to help reclaim the Duchy handed down by his ancestors.

The fourth volume of Nagash’s Nine Volumes records Nagash’s army training methods and many Healing Spells. The book itself is also a powerful Magic Artifact, benefiting the Duchy’s army, allowing them to restore combat capability faster, and the wounds of the Knights to heal more swiftly, all thanks to the fourth volume of Nagash’s book.

The army enhanced by the fourth volume can shorten the training time by half to get ready for battle. With Magic Power infused by the court Wizard, the Healing Magic released by the fourth volume can restore stamina and heal wounds on a large scale. The benefits of this book made it difficult for Theodoric to let go.

The Duke knew, of course, that once discovered it meant trouble, so Nagash’s fourth volume was always hidden in the deepest part of the Borelion Library, only taken out when needed. The disappearance of the book now left the Duke restless, he dispatched plenty of manpower to search for Mathew Bade, besides responding to Fiona’s request, with the intention of finding out if he had stolen the book.

”Yes, I definitely won’t say anything.” Mathew Bade replied tactfully.

Behind the large cabinet, Surya leaned against Laine’s chest, her voice slightly trembling: ”Laine... it seems this matter is...”
