The Golem Mage

“Alec!!!”

Alec’s name echoed throughout the Royal arena, and in that moment, even some fans from Onyx Academy and the other Great Eight schools couldn’t help but stand and clap.

They watched as Alec surveyed the crowd, and no matter how much they might want to deny it, they couldn’t anymore, Alec Gordons had single-handedly carried his team to the finals of the inter-academy competition.

For years, the Battle Mage Academy, Royal Academy, Holy Grail Academy, Onyx Academy, Gate Academy, Wizards and Witches Academy, Bloodline Academy, and Vajra Academy had dominated the inter-academy scene.

Over the years, the winners of the competition had consistently come from these eight institutions, and with the other High and Ancient Tier clans aligning themselves and choosing one of these academies, it only made them nearly untouchable.

These were the places where the most talented mages aspired to study, while those deemed low-ranked or unreliable were relegated to the ordinary academies, as the remaining academies were left to fight over what was left of the students.

Every year, as the great eight ranked higher in the inter-academy competition, the priority for the best resources went mainly to them, which is why they had led for so long.

But now, they watched one mage bring everything crashing down, bringing along with him the name of an academy they had long ignored, believing it incapable of producing any significant talent that would cause such a phenomenon.

Dragov Dragonmir, who had been reluctantly compelled to watch the match with his team by his coordinator, finally stood up from his seat and began to walk away.

Damien turned to look at Dragov’s retreating figure, his spiky white hair swaying with each step.

Damien frowned slightly, prompting Carmilla to ask,

“What’s the matter?”

“He smiled, Dragov smiled.

It’s almost as if this Alec has captured his attention,” Damien replied.

“Smiled?

Are you sure about that?

It’s extremely rare to see Dragov show any emotion, now you’re telling me he smiled?

How did you see through that spiky hair that covers his face?” Carmilla questioned.

“I know what I saw.

I’m pretty sure I noticed the edges of his lips curve upward when he stood up.

It looked like he was about to leave because he had seen enough, but I don’t think so.

He must be so excited to see Alec,” Damien replied.

This caused Carmilla’s brow to furrow in confusion, why was her brother still waiting here instead of going with their captain to ensure he didn’t do anything reckless?

“Oh, come on.

It’s not like I could stop him if he goes into a rampage.

I’m sure he’ll just say something like, ‘Let’s fight sometime.’ You know how he gets when he finds someone strong,” Damien said, noticing the concerned look on his sister’s face.

It was as if he could read her thoughts.

With that, they all turned toward the arena, which was transforming back to its normal state as the transparent light shield surrounding it opened.

The region where the Battle Mage Academy was located fell into silence.

“Is it just me, or did the War God Academy team just reach the finals before us?” Vlad was the first to break the silence that had descended on them all, throwing the statement out and prompting laughter and chatter among the rest of the team.

“It’s funny, we used to be the only academy among the Great Eight that supported the War God Academy, who would have thought a day would come when they’d reach such a pinnacle?

I guess I can say to the faces of those snobs other captains acting so noble that, ‘I told you so!’” Vincent chimed in, and most of the Battle Mage Academy members nodded in agreement.

Vlad looked around at the rest of his team and could tell their joy was genuine, prompting him to shake his head.

He believed the Battle Mage Academy team was the only one that could be this happy for their opponents progress or happy about facing a strong opponent.

He didn’t understand why they acted so flawlessly, without any ulterior motives, unlike the other great eight team regarding such situations.

He wondered if their upbringing at the academy had dulled their capacity for schemes like that.

“Haa, I guess it’s time we head out then, so we can congratulate them when they walk out!” Vlad announced, suggesting that the entire team should congratulate the War God Academy team.

This gesture would demonstrate just how highly the Battle Mage Academy regarded Alec’s team.

Hearing this, Vincent nodded in agreement.

“We should do that; I think this gesture will earn us more than we bargained for!” Vincent said as he stood up.

Immediately, the rest of the Battle Mage team followed suit, rising and starting to make their way out as well.

Meanwhile, Selene could be seen stretching her arms toward the coordinator of Onyx Academy, who was gasping in astonishment, his mouth open wide enough that even a bird egg could pass through without trouble.

“Pay up!” Selene demanded, unfazed by his shock or the fact that he was still starstruck by the loss of the team he deemed unbeatable, especially given that their captain had suffered an even worse fate.

All she cared about was that she had won the bet she made with him mid-game.

Although he attempted to renege on his promise, claiming mid-game bets were not valid, but Selene’s intense expression made it clear that if he didn’t settle up, she’d likely cause a scene.

And given that the king was present, this was something he didn’t want to ever happen.

Reluctantly, he handed over the magic crystals he lost to Selene.

As she collected her winnings and prepared to leave, she suddenly heard his voice.

“You know, that was crazy, you bet on your captain to win while he was taking a beating!

I have to ask you honestly, how could you make such a wager?

What if you lost?

You probably wouldn’t be able to repay me, considering how broke you are, relying on small bets just to get by,” The coordinator of Onyx Academy prodded at topics that Selene preferred not to revisit, but she responded before walking away.

“You want to know why I bet on Alec?

It’s quite simple, I never doubted he could win, no matter what happened, I always believed he would come out on top, it’s a risk I would always take” Selene declared as she turned back walking away, her only aim was to go check on her team.

“What a confident lady.

Let’s see what happens next,” the Onyx academy coordinator muttered to himself.
