Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 615: Chapter 146: Biochemical Brain Machine

The Cloud Nobility is immortal, and so are the Super Entrepreneurs.

This is common knowledge in Cyber Space.

And the technology supporting this common knowledge is consciousness duplication—

Human consciousness has become a part of the network cables, with the consciousness of those rich enough to afford transfer floating and transmitting in the sky, their memories, emotions, and thoughts packaged into data, flowing ceaselessly.

But the cost of this is exorbitant, so high that only the wealthy can afford it.

But it’s different for ordinary people—

Every ordinary person’s memory is like flowing sand, slipping away through fingers, endlessly flowing downward.

Assuming you could live for a hundred years, then your life is a movie played continuously for 36,500 days, totaling 756,864,000 frames.

When the memory stays on the last frame, that is the moment of your death.

No one can change everything.

Except for technology.

...

Dou seemed to be enveloped in a field of white light.

Voices whispered in his ears, both male and female, layering one after another, and finally images came crashing down, inescapable, submerging him in endless scenes of memories.

Then, a giant hand enveloped the white light, consciousness transformed into memory, memory transformed into data, data uploaded to become a consciousness package.

A consciousness package encased a person’s entire memory.

Those lost, shattered, forgotten, all excavated from the bottom logic of the brain.

Finally, Dou, in a white priest’s robe, reverently held a mechanical brain, placing it into the groove of a marble pillar.

”I’ve invented a new ’consciousness package’ technology, I’ve preserved life forever!”

”This technology is no longer exclusive to the rich, nor monopolized by super corporations; everyone can enjoy it equally.”

”As long as my technology spreads, the chaos and evil in Cyber Space will be thoroughly turned around.”

”As long as...”

”I must remind you, indulging in the pleasures of the consciousness space is not conducive to your upcoming plans.” A familiar voice echoed in Dou’s mind.

’Whoosh——’

In the mechanical brain of Hive City

A figure sat up from the nutrition chamber, and the electrode pads on his head fell off with his movement, revealing worm-like thick neural pathways that stretched the skin, densely covering his skull.

These are the costs of consciousness upload.

Clearly a delicate teenager, now with a touch more ferocity.

But Dou didn’t mind, and the doctor was indifferent, calmly stating:

”I must remind you that while you were enjoying, Vinos Life Safety Group has already started their Electronic Brain Plan in the third Mechanical City.”

”How did it happen so quickly?”

”This is the footage our corporate warriors risked their lives to secretly film.”

With the doctor pressing a button, a less than five-second video clip popped up.

In the enormous city, every street was covered with crowds, every building filled with ’living people’, who roared, raged, and tore off their scalps, revealing the back of their heads, where a seam formed by biochemical drugs or rather—a ’brain-machine interface’.

Purely biological side brain-machine.

The footage abruptly stopped after five seconds.

”Biological virus?!” Dou turned serious.

”Yes, a very special Level 8 biological virus, spreading across various cities, forming a tide of zombies. This kind of zombie is different from normal radiation corpses; their brains haven’t been burnt out. This ’zombie behavior’ is, instead, a brain-closure protection due to evolution.”

”Do they want to turn the whole planet into zombies?” Dou was shocked.

”If this virus has the same level of infectiousness as the zombie contagion virus we understand, then obviously, their ’brain-machine transformation’ speed will be very, very fast!”

”Just by spreading this virus in any human settlement, there wouldn’t even be a need to act directly; humans would spread it themselves.”

The doctor sighed, ”I’ve heard that Vinos Life conducted a lot of underground biochemical experiments in the colonies; seems the rumors are true, they really are planning something big.”

Dou still had some doubts:

”If there’s no living human left on this planet, then the ’Electronic Brain Plan’ would be entirely meaningless, a group of lunatics can’t boost Cyber Space’s computational power.”

The strength of humanity, or intelligent species, lies in their logicality, which is the foundation of artificial data networks.

The doctor shook his head:

”Firstly, the biological virus doesn’t necessarily lack a cure, the spread of the virus is for dispersal, and once this purpose is accomplished, the human body will likely develop immunity;

Secondly, perhaps this is exactly the purpose of this biological giant.”

”Through ’drugs’, maintaining the normal state of humanity, and in order not to zombify, the entire planet’s population has to work for it.”

”’Personality balancing agents’, ’electronic pharmaceuticals’, ’gene-customized drugs’, every biological enterprise is trying to develop similar drugs.”

”They aim to monopolize ’wisdom’.”

The doctor worriedly said:

”What needs concern now is, if this virus enters Hive City, whether our mechanical brain transformation can withstand such infection.”

Dou took a deep breath, his brain spinning madly:

”I need more data to study this virus.”

”As long as the virus doesn’t cause large-scale infection, it won’t generate more levels of evolution.”

”Inform all companies with mechanical transformation schemes, I need their assistance.”

In corporate warfare, uniting and dividing are basic operations; some ’brain-machine schemes’ can cooperate, as it’s simply a matter of technical parameters; but some technical routes are mortal enemies.

For example, the biological side brain-machine and mechanical side brain-machine, which are entirely life-and-death competitors.

The more dangerous the technological transformation, the more likely it is to face sniper attacks in the early stages.

And this is the key factor in defeating the strong by the weak in corporate warfare.

As the two discussed, the voice of the artificial intelligence suddenly emerged—

”Boss, chief expert, four people are outside, they claim to be your allies.”

...

”Super genius boy Dou, a talent that countless big corporations want to win over yet fail to succeed.”

Mr. Brainstem lamented.

”Didn’t expect him to create a new group within just two years, even participating in the corporate war.”

Gao Gong gave him a sideways glance.

”The wooing you mentioned, does it also include assassination and ambush?”

Mr. Brainstem gave a modest smile:

”It’s not just us, after all, other corporations want his talents, and we, the biological institution, only want his brain.”

”Heh heh.”

”Mr. G, I don’t understand, weren’t we supposed to meet Ms. Ye? Why come here instead?”

Gao Gong did not answer; the next moment, the mechanical gate slowly opened, and a thick scent of blood wafted over, as a burly man adorned with gear modifications, accompanied by a group of Level 30 corporate warriors, came before the four.

”Our boss wants to see you.”

Gao Gong curiously observed the person, a close-combat all-gear mechanical, very rare, especially with the dangerous aura exuding from him, carrying a strangely familiar feel.

”May I know your name, sir?”

”Security Department, Single God.”

”So it’s Manager Shan.”

The mechanical transformer over 50 levels in front of him, Gao Gong could assert, was definitely not from the Neuro Editing Group’s technology. That is to say, this is a super mercenary.

’Strange, above Level 50, every transformer should be famous, yet I’ve never heard of this one, or how he joined the Neuro Editing Group.’

Level 2 Civilization can mass-produce Tier 1 species, and only a Level 3 Civilization can mass-produce Tier 2 species.

Meaning that individual combat power above Level 50, at least on this planet, is not something that can be mass-produced; they are the crystallization of technology, will, and talent, true masters in the truest sense.

Likewise, Single God’s expression also grew serious.

It is said that biological beings rely on their aura, while mechanical beings rely on data. In his combat system, this person before him, along with the tall worker-dressed man behind him, were specially marked by the combat system, as extremely high-risk threats.

’Such people don’t seem to be the ones to see the boss directly.’

Unfortunately, it was not up to him to decide.

And upon entering the city, witnessing the transformed Hive City, Black Python subconsciously gaped.

”Wow, so many brain cases!”

After the crazy transformation, now only the successfully transformed commoners remained on the streets, along with a ground full of brain cases.

Seeing ordinary people who hadn’t yet awoken from the experiment, with half their heads drenched in blood and the other half completely mechanized, Black Python subconsciously touched his head and drew in a breath of cold air.

”My head better not have such a big hole drilled, it hurts too much!”
