Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 79: Chapter 74: Sweating Buckets, Bro

Poly Yuxi, inside a rented room.

Ring, ring, ring, the phone’s ringtone sounded urgent, as if urging him to answer it quickly.

Lu Li was awakened from his sleep, looked at the bright sunshine outside the window, and knew a new day had arrived.

Last night, he went to the hotel to develop some rapport with the Fiery Babe.

Because it was a bit late when he left, he didn’t go back to Liu Kexin’s place.

Lu Li casually picked up his phone to look, it was a call from Xiaozhao.

He thought something urgent had happened, so he pressed the answer button, ”Hello, Xiaozhao, what’s...”

Before he could finish speaking, Xiaozhao’s uncontrollable laughter came from the other end of the phone, ”Haha, boss, guess what happened?”

He had been trying hard to enhance his ”Transformation Technique” these past few days.

A lot of energy had been invested, but unfortunately, there was no reaction.

Well, not entirely no reaction.

Anyway, he felt it was quite ”exhausting.”

Precisely because of this, Lu Li was momentarily at a loss regarding Xiaozhao’s words.

He yawned, asking, ”What happened?”

”Hehe.” Xiaozhao excitedly said, ”Wasn’t Vice President Du finding ways to take away your responsibility as the livestream sales host yesterday?”

Lu Li replied, ”So what?”

Xiaozhao said, ”You didn’t host the livestream sales last night, and Fiery Babe also broke her wrist, expected to take more than a month off. Vice President Du had no choice but to let that Lu Yao host the livestream, and the audience wouldn’t buy it at all, they even made that woman cry.”

Lu Li said wryly, ”Just because Lu Yao was made to cry, you called me to gloat?”

”No way!” Xiaozhao continued excitedly in solidarity, ”Mostly it’s because of last night’s sales situation, it made me laugh, only one order was placed during the whole night’s livestream sales, and the order amount was just over 300.”

Poof!

Lu Li almost burst out laughing.

He never expected that without him and Fiery Babe, the livestream would be in such a dire state.

Guess Vice President Du’s face turned green upon seeing those sales figures?

Lu Li found it amusing.

Before he could fully enjoy it.

Xiaozhao brought even more laughter-inducing news, ”The key point is as soon as we ended the broadcast, the only order was canceled as well.”

What?

As soon as the broadcast ended, the only order was canceled as well?

Lu Li couldn’t hold it anymore and laughed out loud, ”Haha, Vice President Du must be furious to death knowing this, right?”

”I don’t know if he’s dead from anger.” Xiaozhao said faintly, ”But after the livestream ended last night, he really fainted from anger, and was sent to the hospital overnight by Manager Zhou and Vice Manager Lin, haha, it’s killing me with laughter, the old bald donkey removed your position, yet he’s half-dead with anger, hahaha, I can’t take it, my stomach hurts from laughing.”

Lu Li laughed himself into stitches, ”Do others in the company know about this?”

”Not just know.” Xiaozhao said, ”It’s spread around, everyone is mocking Vice President Du, I’ll let you hear the commotion in the office, just hold on.”

Saying that, a sound of footsteps was heard.

Eek, the sound of a door opening.

Soon, a burst of noise came through.

”It’s killing me with laughter!”

”Vice President Du, so smart he outsmarted himself!”

”Removed our boss’s position? Now he’s messed things up!”

”Our boss’s couple of livestreams, sales amount was at least over 300k, Vice President Du’s people went up, result is zero sales, if I were him, I wouldn’t want to come back to the company in this life, it’s just too embarrassing to show my face.”

”Still, Brother Lu is formidable, one livestream sale, soaring up.”

”Exactly, what’s Vice President Du messing with Brother Lu for?”

Xiaomei, Xiaoqing, Brother Cheng, and Old Zhu’s voices were all there.

Lu Li didn’t expect that after sleeping so comfortably for one night, doing nothing, Vice President Du would get his just deserts so soon.

Xiaozhao put the phone back to his ear, ”Boss, hearing this makes your heart feel pretty good, right?”

Lu Li smiled broadly, ”It’s quite good.”

Xiaozhao asked, ”By the way, are you on leave today? Haven’t seen you come to work.”

Lu Li thought for a moment and said honestly, ”I might be resigning recently, and for the next month, I’ll probably be asking for leave often.”

”Ah?” Xiaozhao said in surprise, ”Why resign? Vice President Du lost face so badly last night, several shareholders are said to have called to question today, he probably can’t lie in the hospital, very likely he’ll come begging you to go back to the livestream sales host position, why resign?”

Lu Li shook his head, ”It’s not about the job, to be honest, I don’t place much importance on this job, it’s because of some other matters.”

Xiaozhao seemed to have thought of something, ”Boss, is it about the other night with the thugs? I know you’re different, might not want people to know the secret, don’t worry, I’ll keep this secret buried in my stomach, will absolutely not tell anyone.”

Lu Li said, ”Thank you.”

Xiaozhao eagerly said, ”Boss, to tell you the truth, I’ve been thinking a lot these days, really want to cling to your big strong leg, if you resign, what will you do? Can you accept me as a little brother?”

You kiddo have some sharp insight.

Daring to take the opportunity to cling on?

Lu Li neither agreed nor disagreed, ”Haven’t thought about what to do for now, if there’s a stable moneymaking path in the future, I’ll contact you then.”

”Okay, thank you, boss, thank you, boss.” Xiaozhao declared his loyalty, ”In the future, I’ll definitely follow you as my leader, you tell me to go east, I’ll never go west, you tell me to climb a mountain of swords, I’ll never dive into a sea of flames.”

Lu Li jokingly scolded, ”Rattling off catchphrases, trying to get into graduate school?”

After chatting for a bit, he hung up the phone.

Lu Li felt very happy inside.

That old fellow Vice President Du had been repeatedly giving him trouble, and now, finally, he faced some retribution.

It’s just that...

Lu Li squinted his eyes slightly, recalling what he had said to Liu Kexin yesterday.

This little retribution is nothing yet; I won’t be satisfied until I’ve dealt with Vice President Du harshly.

If the other party just found trouble for me occasionally, maybe I could forgive.

But unfortunately, it’s not just once.

The first time, the old jerk had the Zealous Baby bail on me.

Nearly caused my first livestream sales event to flop.

Luckily, I was riding high from a popular case-solving stream and managed to boost sales.

Otherwise, I’d definitely be laughed at by the entire company.

The second time was even more excessive.

The old jerk actually hired a dozen thugs with weapons to come after me.

How could Lu Li possibly forgive him?

He’s wanted revenge for a long time.

He was just busy making money these past few days, so he hadn’t attended to it yet.

Now that he’s free, Lu Li is definitely going to teach Vice President Du a harsh lesson.

The most crucial point is that despite my previously displayed strong combat skills, the other party still dared to make a third move.

This is undoubtedly a provocation!

Lu Li doesn’t care what Vice President Du’s real motives are for doing this.

He only knows one thing: anything should be reciprocal.

You keep finding trouble for me again and again.

Then you should be prepared for the severe consequences of my revenge!

As he was thinking.

The phone suddenly rang again with a ”ding-dong” sound.

Lu Li glanced over and saw it was from an unfamiliar number.

He thought it was a marketing call and wasn’t planning to answer.

Unexpectedly, after the call was disconnected the first time, it rang again.

It was still that same number.

Lu Li realized it wasn’t a marketing call, so he picked up to answer.

...

In the hospital, a private room.

Vice President Du’s face looked terribly grim.

He had just received news that Liu Kexin had contacted all the company’s shareholders, using last night’s incident to make a fuss, and was also preparing to persuade those shareholders to revoke his position.

Just yesterday, Vice President Du was still figuring out how to revoke Lu Li’s position.

It only took one day, and now he was the one about to lose his position!

Now Vice President Du was incredibly anxious, knowing he couldn’t lose his job as Executive Vice President.

Otherwise, all the shady things he did would be brought to light.

Then it wouldn’t just be about losing his position and being delisted from the shareholders; it could even mean jail time!

The key is, what he did was over the line.

If prosecuted by the company, it wouldn’t just mean one or two years; it could very well mean a life sentence!

He’s already over fifty years old. If sentenced to life, his life’s truly done.

Of course, Vice President Du wants to keep his job as Executive Vice President and then gradually mitigate the impact, avoiding being put behind bars.

How can he maintain his position?

Anyone would know to quickly bring Lu Li back to host the livestream sales, calming the shareholders first.

Reluctantly, Vice President Du could only take out his phone to dial the number, wanting to persuade Lu Li to return to his position as the livestream sales head.

Unexpectedly, the call was hung up right after he dialed it.

He had no idea Lu Li hung up thinking it was a marketing call and assumed the other party didn’t want to deal with him.

This left Vice President Du in a cold sweat with anxiety.

His hands were trembling as he dialed Lu Li’s number again!

”Answer, Lu Li! Come on, pick up the phone!”

Vice President Du anxiously and continuously pleaded.

Fortunately, this time the call got through.

Lu Li’s voice came from the other end, ”Hello, who is this?”

Even though he knew the other party couldn’t see him, Vice President Du instinctively sat up straight, showing a bright smile, ”Deputy Manager Lu, it’s...”

Before he could finish his sentence.

With a click, the phone was hung up!

Vice President Du was dumbfounded, realizing Lu Li didn’t want to deal with him.

But he now had to beg for Lu Li’s forgiveness and get him back to his position as the livestream sales head.

Vice President Du gritted his teeth and threw off the blanket, ”Damn it, I’ll go beg him in person. Even if I have to kneel today, I must get him back to his position!”

He truly felt utterly humiliated.

Saying to himself, after all, Lu Li is just a deputy manager.

Now he had to go in person and even consider kneeling.

No matter how humiliated he felt, Vice President Du knew he had to go.

Otherwise, if he was removed from his position as Executive Vice President, his life would be ruined!

At this moment, Vice President Du’s heart was full of misery, only now realizing how embarrassing the consequences of offending Lu Li were!
