Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 63: Chapter 58: Superhuman Healing Ability

Outside the police station.

Xiaozhao, Manager Zhou, Vice Manager Lin, and others saw Lu Li coming out, and immediately surrounded him.

”What did the police say?”

”They didn’t give you a hard time, did they?”

”I just called President Liu. When she heard about this, she’s on her way. She also said that tonight you were the victim, and if there’s an accusation of excessive self-defense, she’ll spare no expense to protect you.”

The group gathered around but didn’t dare to get too close to Lu Li.

The brutal scene from earlier still echoed in their minds.

Everyone was really afraid of being too close to Lu Li, in case he accidentally injured them with just a wave of his hand.

Lu Li reassured everyone, ”There’s nothing to worry about. The police checked the footage and confirmed it was self-defense. They just filed a report on me.”

The fiery beauty asked with concern, ”What report?”

Others also watched Lu Li with curiosity.

Lu Li helplessly replied, ”Captain Qian said I was too destructive and was worried I might cause trouble, so they filed a report just in case the same thing happens again.”

Upon hearing this, Manager Zhou was at a loss whether to laugh or cry, ”If you hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t know what to say to you. A huge car, and you dismantled it with your bare hands. Are you even human?”

Xiaozhao looked at Lu Li with awe, ”Boss, you’re really impressive. In just a few moves, you took down a dozen thugs. You’re at least at the level of a Martial Arts Grandmaster!”

He hadn’t told anyone yet that Lu Li could use ”inner strength.”

”Definitely a Martial Arts Grandmaster! Just like the experts at the transforming strength level in that novel I read before I got married, called ’Legend of the Dragon and Snake’!” Vice Manager Lin nodded in agreement, ”Running as fast as a car and dismantling one with your hands—no one would believe it even if a Martial Arts Grandmaster said it!”

Old Cheng, the security captain, marveled, ”I never imagined our company had hidden talents, like Deputy Manager Lu being such a martial arts expert. It’s unbelievable!”

As everyone was expressing their amazement,

The sound of a car screeching to a halt echoed.

Soon after, even before the car door opened, Liu Kexin’s voice rang out, ”Xiaolu, are you okay?”

”President Liu.”

”President Liu, you’re here?”

Xiaozhao, Manager Zhou, and the fiery beauty all turned their heads to greet her.

Lu Li also looked over.

He saw Liu Kexin in a pink nightgown getting out of the car, quickly walking over.

He originally wanted to reassure her with a comment, but suddenly recalled something she had said a few nights ago.

Lu Li immediately stepped forward, looking pitiful, ”President Liu, I almost couldn’t make it to see you. Look at my arm, it was slashed, covered in blood.”

Speaking, he even tore open the bandage, wanting Liu Kexin to take a look.

Xiaozhao: ”...”

Manager Zhou: ”...”

The fiery beauty and others: ”...”

Damn!

The wounds on your arm were clearly from dismantling that car barehanded.

With your superhuman combat ability, who could possibly slash you?

Everyone was speechless.

They understood what had happened.

But Liu Kexin didn’t know.

She was so startled by the perilous situation described that she jumped.

Liu Kexin quickly grabbed Lu Li’s hand, looking down, ”Are the wounds that serious? Should I contact a hospital for...”

Mid-sentence,

She looked up, confused, ”There are no wounds on your hand.”

No wounds on my hand?

How could that be!

I was just scraped by the car top, and the skin peeled, seriously!

Lu Li looked down at his arm.

Then he stood dumbfounded.

Though faint traces of blood were still visible, all the wounds had healed!

Xiaozhao, Manager Zhou, and the fiery beauty also noticed.

They all looked at each other in disbelief.

Just over an hour ago, they had seen Lu Li’s arms covered in deep wounds.

And now, more than an hour later, the wounds had all healed?

Xiaozhao couldn’t help but shiver, pondering whether Lu Li was an alien infiltrator on Earth.

Manager Zhou and the fiery beauty, along with others, had similar thoughts.

Those wounds, under normal circumstances, would take at least a few weeks to heal.

And yet now, not only had Lu Li’s wounds healed, but they looked as ordinary as ever?

Everyone suspected that if Lu Li wasn’t an alien, he must be some kind of monster.

Everyone took a step back in unison, moving further away from Lu Li.

Liu Kexin seemed to have noticed something.

She didn’t give Lu Li a chance to speak.

She said to everyone, ”You’ve all worked hard all night, you must be tired. You can go back first, I’ll take Xiaolu to the hospital for a check-up.”

”Okay.”

”Well then, President Liu, I’ll head off first.”

”President Liu, Deputy Manager Lu, goodbye.”

Xiaozhao, Manager Zhou, and the others said their farewells.

Liu Kexin didn’t say anything more, and took Lu Li into her car.

...

In the car.

While starting the engine, Liu Kexin asked with concern, ”Xiaolu, how are you feeling? Should I take you for a scan first?”

You know your own affairs best.

Lu Li’s hands were only scraped and were not a big deal.

With his extraordinary self-healing abilities, he’s already recovered.

There’s definitely no need for a hospital check-up.

Besides, he has secrets.

Who knows what a hospital might find out?

Lu Li immediately said, ”I’m fine, no need for a hospital check-up.”

Liu Kexin started the car, ”You sure you’re fine? I’m still not reassured; I’ll take you in to get looked at.”

”No! No, President Liu, I’m really fine.”

Lu Li quickly reassured her, chuckling awkwardly, ”When I said I was attacked, it was just a joke; no one actually attacked me with a knife.”

Liu Kexin pursued the topic, ”Then what’s with the bandages on your hands?”

Normally, Lu Li would have hidden the truth.

But so many colleagues saw what happened earlier.

There’s no way to hide it.

He told her everything honestly.

Of course, although Lu Li acted impulsively earlier to grab the two walking soft buddies, he was now clear-headed and didn’t mention the needle attack, only saying he took down a dozen armed thugs barehanded and even dismantled a BMW with his hands.

Even though Lu Li downplayed his fighting abilities.

Yet, Liu Kexin was stunned after listening, and the car came to a sudden stop.

She looked at Lu Li, wide-eyed, ”Just you alone took on about a dozen armed thugs and dismantled the roof of their BMW with your bare hands?”

Lu Li replied, ”Yeah.”

Liu Kexin stared at him silently for quite a while before exhaling deeply.

She gave a thumbs-up, ”You are... amazing.”

Lu Li quite enjoyed the praise, but modestly said, ”Not bad.”

Liu Kexin restarted the car, asking, ”Since you’re not going to the hospital, should I take you home?”

Lu Li blinked, ”Are you sure about letting me live alone?”

Liu Kexin knew what Lu Li meant.

She turned her head and rolled her eyes, ”You’re so fierce, what’s to worry about living alone?”

Lu Li pleaded, ”Today, they only sent a dozen armed thugs after me; who knows if tomorrow or the day after they’ll send gunmen to kill me? President Liu, you did promise that if I was in trouble, you’d let me stay with you for protection.”

Well, he was just testing the waters, not expecting Liu Kexin to agree.

Who would’ve thought, Liu Kexin was silent for a moment, then said, ”You have a point, I did promise to protect you. Okay, starting tonight, move into my complex, stay at my place tonight, and tomorrow I’ll have someone rent a place for you, and you can move over then and have meals, go to and from work with me.”

Huh?

She actually agreed to let me stay there?

Lu Li bargained, ”Why rent a place? If so, I’ll still be living alone. Who knows, a killer might sneak in at night and take me out; I’m just flesh and blood, can’t fend off guns, and stuff. You’ve got to let me stay with you as promised, no going back on your word.”

Liu Kexin was silent again.

Will she agree?

Lu Li blinked and looked at her profile.

About ten seconds later.

Liu Kexin took a deep breath, ”Alright, stay at my place then.”

She agreed?

She really agreed?

Lu Li felt like he was in a dream.

He really didn’t expect Liu Kexin to agree to live and eat together.

He was secretly a little excited, wondering if living together would spark feelings?

To be honest, Lu Li was quite enchanted by Liu Kexin’s impressive figure, and if he really developed feelings for her, getting to be with her would be quite the experience, wouldn’t it?
