Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 244: Volume 4, Chapter 27, Betrayal (7)_3

Sixteen matches, with only one winner per match. These sixteen people will be divided into two groups on Sunday, and they will fight each other. This is when the bloody battle will truly reach its climax. Because according to tradition, hardly anyone walks out of the final match alive. All grudges in the prison will be settled here!

The sole survivors of the two groups will face each other in the final showdown, leaving only one alive. That will be the ultimate champion—the king of the arena at Abnosk. He will rise from the bloodshed, driving the nobles completely mad.

”You mean to say, that the anti-government forces have started to act?” Tian Xingjian stretched his body, the sight of Fatty in boxing shorts with a bare chest made him look foolish. His hands were already wrapped in bandages, the only form of protection on his entire body.

Elliot applied to become Tian Xingjian’s assistant. As he massaged Tian, he whispered, ”Yes, our people found out that they have left their gathering spot in scattered groups. Moreover, these guys not only have energy guns and portable missiles, but they also have at least a hundred armed Mechas. We can’t imagine who has such power to arm a regiment in Tanville!”

”Find a way to locate them. I think this is very unusual. If they act now, maybe...” Fatty’s face turned a little pale: ”Their goal might be the same as ours! We absolutely cannot let them ruin our plan. This is our only chance!”

”Zhang Yuan, are you ready?” Andre walked up to Fatty, looking at this pale fellow, unsure if he could win.

”Ready.” Fatty grinned, pleading, ”Boss, if I can’t make it, quickly declare me defeated. I’m just a mechanic, fighting is not my specialty.”

Andre lowered his voice and whispered in Tian Xingjian’s ear, ”This isn’t a game. For both you and me, losing means we lose everything! If you die up there, I’ll feel sorry for you!”

As he spoke, the red lights in the sweaty, smelly locker room began to flash, signaling the end of the preparation time. The contestants began to take the stage. Andre, smiling, patted Tian Xingjian’s shoulder, saying ”Take care” before sending the terrified Fatty out of the room.

This was the only match on Saturday.

In the five days of matches prior, a total of six people were killed, and thirteen were severely injured.

Among the six killed, four fell victim to Ghost. None of his opponents left the arena alive!

All four were Andre’s men. Therefore, Andre indeed had no way out.

”You mean, Zhang Yuan was sent to the fighting arena for the duel?” Susan looked in disbelief at the embarrassed Deputy Prison Director before her, simply unable to imagine what a mechanic’s fate would be in such a duel!

Seeing Ann Lei’s pale face beside her, Susan unhesitatingly shouted, ”Cancel it, cancel the match immediately!”

The Deputy Prison Director bowed his head, ”Your Highness, you know, that’s probably not possible. The match has already started.”

”Not possible? You say not possible?” Susan was both anxious and angry.

”Yes, Your Highness. The fighting list was personally signed by Your Majesty.” The Deputy Prison Director couldn’t figure out the relationship between these two women and Zhang Yuan, hesitated to say more. He had heard that when James had approved the list, he had pondered over Zhang Yuan’s name for a long time before finally deciding to keep him there.

James’s exact words were, ”The son put him in, but the daughter wants him out. Letting him participate in the duel might be a good idea. After all, things have to be decided. If he loses or dies, then that’s his bad luck, and it allows Bruce to vent his anger. If he becomes the champion, I’ll grant him a pardon, and that should make Susan very happy.”

Since James had made the decision, who would dare to alter the list casually?

After casting a fierce glance at the Deputy Prison Director, Susan grabbed Ann Lei’s hand and said, ”Don’t worry, let’s go and see, there must be a way!” She turned and said to the Deputy Prison Director, ”Arrange a room for me, I want to watch the match.”

The Deputy Prison Director took out a room card and respectfully handed it to Susan, saying, ”The room has long been prepared, on the third floor, the last room next to the emergency stairway.”

As Susan and Ann Lei walked through the quiet corridor and opened the door to the room, they were hit by a wave of loud noise, and the scene before them left them stunned.
