Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 221: Volume 4 Chapter 13 The Use of Fatty_2

This competition is a golden opportunity for all major factions in Abnosk Prison to reshuffle the power structure! The contest is not only about nobles betting money but also about prisoners betting their influence! It’s a bloody battle involving all interests, where the victor will gain everything they desire, and the loser will be utterly defeated! Prisoners are the most pragmatic people in the world. They don’t care about anything else. They follow whoever holds the most power. It’s not that they lack loyalty; loyalty for them exists only before the dust settles. At that time, being united to achieve victory is loyalty. But once the outcome is decided, showing loyalty is undoubtedly foolish.

Nowadays, those who talk about loyalty have fallen to the bottom of the prison with their incompetent bosses. Here, these ousted bosses are even worse off than some fools who feign madness. At least, they face humiliation and trouble much more frequently than those fools. The principle of the survival of the fittest is fundamental here.

Before this, Andre had always been burdened with worry about the competition. The few good fighters he had might make it to the top eight, but reaching the semifinals and finals seemed like an impossible task. And Ghost, this former Special Soldier captain, who had once won third place and a championship in military fighting competitions, stood in front of Andre like a towering mountain!

Ghost’s strength was overwhelming. Almost all the bosses were preparing to accept that Gino’s group would ultimately win. Andre had been trying to improve his relationship with Gino recently, but the results were not significant. No one could predict what would become of him by the end of the competition. By then, even the guards and the Prison Director would side with Gino, condoning and permitting his actions. If Gino struck while his allies watched idly and his subordinates scattered, Andre would collapse with a crash, never to rise again.

Colin’s words lit a fire in Andre’s heart. This Fatty was like a gift from the heavens! The incident earlier kept replaying in Andre’s mind, impossible to dismiss! Fatty’s terrifying state was like that of a monster. Only such a monster could have a chance against Ghost! Moreover, unlike Ghost, this newcomer to the prison, in his mental state, had no chance of receiving James’s pardon. That meant even if Fatty won the competition, he would stay in prison, becoming the emblem of Andre’s faction!

If Fatty could kill Ghost while sleepwalking even once, Andre would become the most powerful force among the prisoners in the entire prison! Just once, just one sleepwalking incident of Fatty, and Andre would have hope! At least, in the entire prison, the only one with enough strength to challenge Ghost would be Fatty in his sleepwalking state. The current trend of Gino gradually becoming the sole powerhouse would be curbed. At the very least, Andre’s allies would have a bit of confidence in him, just enough to prevent them from easily betraying him!

Andre and his trusted men in the same cell exchanged glances and relaxed. The signal light for counting numbers lit up on the wall. Andre sat cross-legged on the bed and smiled, ”If Ghost ends up being defeated by a sleepwalker, I wonder what his expression would be!”

Colin looked at the cell door opposite and sneered, ”I don’t know about anyone else, but Gino’s face will definitely be longer than it is now.” Imagining Gino’s signature long face, everyone maliciously laughed.

The counting guard outside the cell door, holding a gun, swaggered by. They noticed that the almost despondent Andre they had seen on the monitor a few minutes ago had regained his confidence and composure, looking better than he had in recent times. The other prisoners in cell D17 also wore a relaxed and joyful smile, as if they had just unloaded a burden or found a large sum of money!

One guard shrugged and said to his companion, ”Andre seems quite happy to be frustrated. Has he accepted his fate?” His companion peered into cell D17 and smiled, ”I think he’s in good spirits today. We should keep an eye on him so Gino doesn’t completely take over. I don’t like that guy much.”

”You’re right. I’m still hoping to place some bets on the underdog!”

Fatty was truly exhausted. Even with his thick skin and iron cloth training, he still felt worn out from the earlier beating. However, this wasn’t the main issue. What wore him out was the thousands of muscle spasms on his face earlier. Damn it, facial twitches were more tiring than anything else. His entire face was numb, like he had facial paralysis.

Fatty slept soundly, but it was torturous for Doctor and the others. The psychological torment of being on edge was more terrifying than being chased with a knife. You could run when being chased, but Fatty was locked in the same cell. Who knows when this guy might go crazy? For all they knew, they could wake up to find Fatty tearing their limbs off.

Watching Fatty sleep, everyone felt a bit neurotic.

Fatty slept the whole night without even having dinner. When he woke up the next day, full of energy, he saw four cautious, frightened inmates who looked like they were afraid of being molested. Rex was still asleep, and Tou’er and the others, with dark circles under their eyes, looked at him pitifully. When they saw Fatty awake, they visibly sighed in relief.

With a vicious thought, Fatty’s face contorted, and his muscles began to spasm as he stared at Tou’er and the others. Hoarsely, he said, ”Did I sleepwalk again...?” His face twisted, his eyes twitched, and his neck jerked, looking neurotic. Tou’er and the others nearly cried. Little Lingtong and another inmate hurriedly said, ”No, no! You slept through the night without sleepwalking.”

Fatty grinned foolishly, ”That’s good, that’s good! I wonder, if I had sleepwalked, how are you all still alive...”

Doctor and the others felt life was unbearable. Being locked up with such a guy every day, they feared they’d go mad even if Fatty didn’t sleepwalk. How long would this nightmare last? They all exchanged glances. Tou’er, assigned by Andre, had to muster the courage to step forward, trembling as he handed over a cigarette, lighting it for Fatty, ”Brother Fatty, it seems we don’t know your name.”

Fatty, feeling that the cell was now under control, relaxed and took a deep puff, ”My name is Zhang Yuan. I’m a mechanic.” He glanced at the cringing Tou’er, ”Don’t be scared. I won’t get agitated or have an episode. Sigh...” Fatty sighed long and deeply, ”I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Sometimes I just wake up, seeing everyone scared of me. It feels like I can’t make any friends.” His tone sounded melancholic, but his face wore a smug, self-satisfied expression.

Seeing Fatty’s expression, Tou’er and the others exchanged looks and felt a bit more at ease. The Doctor hesitated and asked, ”Brother Yuan, so when you’re not agitated...”

Fatty grinned foolishly, ”Of course, there’s no problem! My illness was cured a long time ago!” The jerk was deliberately scaring people. Suddenly he turned, staring at Doctor, his face twitching, and cried sharply, ”Why do you ask... I’m not sick! I’m not sick!”

I will gradually repay what I owe everyone, but it will have to wait until I return to the country.

Also, let’s push for more monthly votes as an emergency support. Great Hero hasn’t even made it into the top twenty for monthly votes. I know it’s my fault, but I hope to get everyone’s help during this difficult time in Moscow. I don’t necessarily need to get into the top ten, but getting into the top twenty and appearing on the homepage isn’t asking too much, is it?
