Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 218: Original text: Volume 4 Chapter 12 Refusing a Toast only to Drink a Forfeit

The rainstorm of fists mercilessly fell on Fatty. He could only curl up on the ground, protecting his head and face, rolling around as he let out heart-wrenching screams that intensified in severity. His cries, which seemed to have changed in tone due to the pain, were even more horrific than being thrown into boiling oil, tearing at one’s heart and lungs with extreme agony. This made all the inmates in the D2 cellblock feel as if they were in hell, their hair standing on end.

Andre listened to Fatty’s wails, his face turning ashen! Such severe beatings were not uncommon in Abnosk Prison, but it was the first time he’d seen it produce such an outcome! This Fatty... was just a lowlife! Watching him howl and cry on the ground like a shrew while rolling back and forth, occasionally pleading for mercy, with both arms protecting his plain face as if his whole life depended on it, made even his beaten posture seem so vile!

”Pah!” Andre spat furiously! He had never seen anyone like this, making such a fuss to find trouble with Fatty made Andre feel somewhat humiliated. He glanced at Rex, who was lying on the bed covered in injuries, utterly confused. Such a cowardly and vile Fatty, even if sleepwalking, how could he have beaten Rex like this?

The screams of Fatty, who was being punched and kicked by five or six henchmen, grew quieter. After one of them viciously kicked him in the chest, he fell silent. These henchmen were all seasoned professional criminals, well-versed in the routine of prison fights, knowing exactly how to handle the intensity. As soon as they heard Fatty go quiet, they stopped without needing a signal from Andre. After all, beating someone to death was trouble they didn’t need, likely leading to guard extortion!

As the crowd dispersed, Fatty curled up on the ground, his prison uniform covered in dust and footprints. He lay there silently, looking as if he had fainted. Seeing Fatty in this state, Doctor, Tou’er, and the others felt their scalps tingle with fear, unaware of what was happening. Even with Andre and so many strong henchmen around, they couldn’t shake the terror from their hearts.

In their eyes, the Fatty lying silently on the ground could turn into a terrifying demon at any moment! The four of them slowly backed out of the crowd, haunted by visions of Fatty’s wild hand-waving and screaming. Just the sight of Fatty sleeping was enough to make them collapse. Would a person who had fainted... sleepwalk?

Of course, a fainted person wouldn’t sleepwalk... but Fatty could! He had already reached the point where he no longer distinguished between fainting and deep sleep! After all, he had nothing on Bruce, and yet here he was! Considering the charges fabricated against him, adding one more, ”Fatty becomes insane during episodes,” wouldn’t be a big deal!

Originally, Fatty didn’t want to escalate the situation. Taking a beating was nothing if it meant leaving a good impression on Andre. Next time, he could curry favor shamelessly, using his other expertise to please him and trick his way into the organization. But he didn’t expect that his pitiful act of fainting wouldn’t arouse even a hint of sympathy from Andre. All he heard was his cold command: ”Continue beating!”

”Continue?”

Fury surged through Fatty, turning his fear into boldness. Seeing this, it seemed that Andre wouldn’t be satisfied without beating him to death! Fine! This damned shrimp wants to beat me, huh? Today, I’ll show you who beats whom!

Just as the henchmen prepared to resume their work, Fatty let out a loud snore. In this scenario, the snore was incredibly eerie! All the inmates looked at each other, while Tou’er and the others couldn’t help but scream in terror:

”Sleepwalking, be careful of his sleepwalking!”

”Slap!” Andre backhanded Tou’er across the face, sending him spinning.

”Sleepwalk my ass!”

Andre roared, turning to glare at Fatty on the ground, his jaw clenched, fists tight, and shouted furiously: ”Fooling around, huh? I’ll see how long you can keep pretending!” He raised his head and angrily commanded the henchmen: ”What are you waiting for, beat him to death!”

The henchmen snapped out of it. Almost simultaneously with Andre’s command, the fastest one delivered a fierce kick to Fatty’s stomach. Fatty, who had been snoring, suddenly opened his eyes, which were devoid of any sparkle. His dull gaze chilled everyone to the bone. His facial muscles twitched, with a thread of drool hanging from the corner of his mouth, making him look like a madman sleepwalking.

Before the henchmen could react, Fatty stood up, grabbing one of them and smashing his head with a fierce headbutt. The henchman, blood streaming down his face, passed out without a sound. Covered in blood, Fatty looked even more terrifying, the blood flowing down his constantly twitching face, mixing with the drool, making him look like a violent maniac!

The surrounding henchmen shouted and closed in. These prison-hardened desperadoes would never back down when outnumbering one person by over twenty! No matter how tough Fatty was, he wasn’t invincible! Even if he was made of iron, they were confident they could tear him apart!
