Armed Train in the Apocalypse

”If you hadn’t come, the armed train would have had a sliver of hope.”

Haywood said calmly.

Tong Zizhan just sneered. When he first entered the Gravity Zone, he was repeatedly used by Haywood as a pawn, receiving incorrect information several times; naturally, he wouldn’t believe a word he said.

The helmet popped open, revealing Xiaoba’s serious gaze. ”What do you want to say?”

”Master Eight, their reinforcements are approaching.”

”It’s alright, missing a word doesn’t matter.”

Xiaoba interrupted Tong Zizhan’s reminder.

Haywood seized the opportunity and quickly said, ”You intend to cause chaos among the Four Nations Alliance by attacking the command camp, possibly forcing the vanguard attacking the outpost to retreat. It’s a good plan, but it overlooks one point: the Chongying People are similar to you Donghuang People in certain ways; the vanguard may not retreat but might increase the assault on the outpost instead.”

While the train will suffer a great loss, he didn’t believe it would be wiped out in one blow.

Preserving his own life by selling goodwill was key.

Metallic hues surged in Xiaoba’s eyes, his small face full of gravity.

Tong Zizhan and Gao Yuan exchanged glances, secretly thinking this is bad!

The outpost managed to hold out this long partly because of the officers’ sacrifice, and the rest thanks to Master Eight as the ”Steel Bastion,” who could perpetually repair the fortifications as long as he was around.

Now, without Master Eight and half the soldiers, can the outpost still hold?

Behind the outpost lies the armed train!

A squad of soldiers from the Four Nations Alliance rushed forward but were headshotted by snipers before they could raise their rifles.

At some point, Haywood noticed he was surrounded by a group of soldiers, distinct from the chaotic Four Nations troops.

In groups of five, not everyone gathered together. Often, a power-armored officer acted as the core, with one or two close-combat or ”firepower” soldiers as the main force, and others sought opportunities independently.

Some used silenced precision rifles to pick off any officer attempting to organize a counterattack, others fired grenades to further sow chaos; their tactical movements were simple and efficient, like the parts of a precise killing machine.

This orderly chaos allowed them to often face off against several times the number of enemies.

But faced with increasing numbers, even the elite train soldiers were under tremendous pressure, beginning to sustain frequent injuries.

As if for backup, a burst of blazing white light erupted on the other side of the camp, a pillar of fire connecting to the sky’s fiery pool, seemingly pointing all the chaotic soldiers to a target.

Haywood gazed over, seeing a pale green silhouette standing atop a burning supply vehicle, one hand raised high, drawing a stream from the inverted sea of fire above, diving like a tamed dragon into an enemy-filled bunker.

Flames spurted from firing ports and gaps, silencing it instantly within.

Meanwhile, a Tier Two expert from the Four Nations had stealthily appeared beside Lin Jin.

Xiaoba turned to Tong Zizhan and Gao Yuan, saying solemnly, ”I’ll leave this to you, I’m heading back to support!”

Upon finishing his sentence, the power armor’s back energy activated, like a frenzied metal giant tearing through the battlefield, engulfing the scene in metallic torrents, charging toward the outpost, completely disregarding the nearby support unit of Bangzi.

Just as Bangzi prepared to fire, nearby soldiers suddenly discovered their weapons seemingly got a mind of their own, growing limbs and directly piercing their hearts.

Losing the outpost didn’t matter, but the armed train must not be lost.

That was the hardworking endeavor of Su Huan.

...

Wars, wars, the entire Four Countries Peninsula was engulfed in wars.

Upon learning of the rear command post’s attack, Vanguard Major General Xiong Er harshly dismissed all suggestions of retreat, resolutely issuing orders to attack.

A full twenty thousand troops engaged without any rotation, with tanks and heavy weapons almost filling the narrow area before the outpost.

Aside from the tanks directly ahead, there was nowhere to hide, but in the face of the abyss-like front line of the outpost.

No matter where they hid, in front of the 12.7mm heavy machine gun, it was merely a matter of sooner or later.

Flesh was like peeled, rotten tomatoes, spread evenly over the battlefield, layer upon layer, filling the trenches; steaming heat even melted the frozen soil of the Gravity Zone, filling the battlefield with a metallic and sweet scent. Under the commander’s Xiong Er’s and the supervision team’s ominous gun barrels, soldiers could only charge forward with desperation and numbness, knowing there was a chance of survival only by capturing the outpost.

On the outpost, the furious metallic flood never ceased, precisely killing each batch of Four Nations soldiers daring to advance.

Seeing the battle damage reports below, even the subordinate of Chongying couldn’t help but twitch an eyelid, quickly running beside Commander Xiong Er, murmuring, ”General, if we keep forcing the attack, morale might collapse.”

Xiong Er’s ruthless eyes fixated on the front line, ”Haven’t you noticed that there are fewer machine gunners?”

”But our losses are now much higher, nearly tripled!”

”Fool, that’s because they have a formidable ’Firepower Hand.’ Why didn’t they appear earlier and only now? Because they can’t hold out any longer, in the next second or minute, they will break!”

”But...”

”No buts, for the glory of Chongying, their sacrifice is indispensable. Also, have the troops at the Azure Ridge Mountains launch an attack; by noon today, I want to step on the outpost’s front line!”

Seeing persuasion fail, the subordinate could only bow in compliance.

With the order issued, troops stationed at the Azure Ridge Mountains abandoned light and heavy weapons, soldiers began large-scale mountain assaults, clashing with the remaining Armed Corps in the mountains.

Behind the outpost front, a heap of ammo boxes was stacked outside the train, as a crew manager waved a booklet, shouting anxiously, ”Anyone? Three boxes, still three boxes left!”

But at this moment, everyone on the train wished they could split into three, all busy with their own tasks, having no time to heed.

Just then, Wen Biao, who had just come down from the front line, heard the voice, sprinting over in a few big strides.

”Where does this need to go?”

The conductor hesitated seeing Wen Biao not in uniform, but straightforwardly said, ”It’s all heavy machine gun ammo, needs lifting to the front line, how many boxes can you carry?”

Wen Biao glanced, seeing they were oversized ammo boxes, heavier than usual, speaking loudly, ”Two boxes.”

”Alright, I’ll take one more.”

The conductor stuffed the booklet into his chest, hoisting the last box to follow.

Lugging the ammo boxes, Wen Biao huffed his way up the front line, barely catching his breath when he heard artillery shell crash onto a building, blasting. The explosion point was close, shaking him, and slipping his foot, he fell down, the ammo boxes crashing onto him.

It took a while before he got up in a daze, his eyes blurred by blood, wiping them blindly, finding the train crew knocked out by the box hit.

No time to settle him, assured he wasn’t dead, Wen Biao hoisted three ammo boxes, rushing inside.

Upon entry, the rhythmic roar of the anti-aircraft machine guns filled the room, a figure wide as a bear stood atop the wall, cradling a several hundred kilograms heavy machine gun like it was a toy, steady as a rock.

”Bang!”

A heavy machine gun was tossed to the ground, ”Switch ammo and fire!”

”Boom boom boom——”

Four or five shells came flying, their explosive flames engulfing the entire front line.

Even the metal-constructed outpost front line of Xiaoba was torn open by the artillery, a huge breach appeared. Watching the howling Four Nations troops storm in, He Jie glanced at his blown-off pinky finger, opened his mouth and bit it off, the sound of crunching bones chilling Wen Biao more than the explosions.

Lifting the heavy machine gun, chewing on his own finger like a cigar, He Jie turned his head at Wen Biao, ”Can’t you change ammo?”

The bloody smear at the corner of his mouth made Wen Biao shiver, hastily opening the ammo box, replacing the ammo belt and handing it over.
