Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Just like the sound of an elephant’s trumpet echoing on the battlefield, a white elephant man with a face like a divine image burst out of the watchtower. His forehead was extremely full, his nose was long and slender, his eyes extended thinly and curved towards the temples, and his ears were more like fans. His skin was a milky white.

Behind him followed all sorts of bizarre ”Beastified” Defenders.

Upon hearing this elephant wail, the morale of the Four Nations, which was somewhat low, was immediately invigorated, especially those white elephant men who looked at the leading elephant man evolver with reverence as if worshiping a god.

But before he could launch a counterattack, he was violently smashed back by a long-handled axe whistling through the air.

The battlefield was filled with the mad laughter of a woman.

The confrontation between high-tier evolvers had begun, the off-road vehicle had closed to within six hundred meters, and the sounds of gunfire and explosions erupted simultaneously, as the armed train and the Four Nations’ defending army plunged into full-scale war.

But regardless of the soldiers’ tragic death or the high-tier evolvers’ engagement, Lian Jin did not take action.

He was just sitting quietly on the car roof.

Whenever someone discovered him, armed soldiers would skillfully lead them away.

In this brutal and chaotic battlefield, Lian Jin just slipped along the edge, getting within two hundred meters of the watch station.

As he looked at the soldiers within the watch station, Lian Jin hesitated when suddenly a twisted metal appeared on the ground, conveniently bridging the trench. The defensive barbed wire twisted together, and before long, it interwove with the rebar extending from the city walls, forming a smooth portal on the bomb-blasted wall.

The off-road vehicle pressed the accelerator slightly and rushed over the steel plate.

Lian Jin, on the car roof, looked back to see an officer wearing a Tier Three Guardian power armor on the watchtower, waving at him.

And behind him were dozens of Four Nations soldiers with throats or hearts pierced by firearms.

Lian Jin turned his head back, looking at the Four Nations soldiers gathered before him, and a fierce killing intent surged from him, enveloping the entire battlefield.

...

Seeing the pillars of fire rising into the sky, the tank battalion began to mobilize.

He Jie’s orders also arrived promptly.

Pang Tu cursed under his breath as he quickly checked his power armor, the grenades within his power armor were his only effective weapons against tanks; simply hitting wasn’t enough, he had to aim accurately.

The ”Firepower Hand” in the team asked in a low voice, ”Captain, I’m the Firepower Hand, shouldn’t this task be handed over to me?”

Pang Tu glanced at him and cursed, ”Get lost, kid! When I enlisted, you didn’t even know where you were lying! All of you, keep your ears open for orders, don’t screw up, even if I tell you to drop your pants, you do it!”

”That won’t do, I still need to find a wife...”

The adjutant shook his head repeatedly.

A few smiles appeared on their faces.

”Keep an eye out, first snipe those officers for me!”

”Yes!”

Pang Tu signaled to the other two officer squads, then charged towards the nearest tank.

Gunfire erupted behind him as a dozen men assaulted from three directions, creating a sense of ambush.

The supporting Four Nations heavy armored forces also spotted them and started to counterattack.

”Boom, boom, boom!”

Pang Tu, rolling and crawling, used nearby cover to conceal himself, then tossed a pack of high-explosives under a tank and ran headlong towards another armored personnel carrier. The power armor slammed into two just-disembarked soldiers, blood gushed from their mouths and their eyes rolled back under the mechanical pressure.

From Pang Tu’s extensive medical experience, those two were beyond saving.

Lifting his left hand, he fired a grenade into the open compartment and quickly moved to the next target.

But the soldiers behind had already reacted, and bullets clattered on his power armor’s shell. Pang Tu fired back, mowing down a group.

On the other side, two officers also descended wearing power armor, destroying two tanks and one troop carrier.

The entire tank battalion’s deployment was thrown into disarray by them.

The sounds of artillery and gunfire were everywhere; in such a chaotic environment, Pang Tu also lost his battlefield judgment and could only rely on his instincts to deal with high-value targets.

He chewed on a stimulant leaf, maneuvering awkwardly under a personnel carrier, and sneakily fired his machine gun to cripple some legs.

Compared to Tier Two Evolvers’ open and aggressive fighting style on the battlefield, his way of combat was extremely underhanded.

But the effect was remarkably good, as they managed to stop an entire tank battalion with just fifteen men.

If one could see on He Jie’s virtual terrain map, all the blue dots penetrating the Cangling Mountains were in motion, each perfectly positioned at a key node of the red flow, stalling the entire red flow’s operation.

Faintly surrounding the watch station choke point.

The picture updated every ten minutes, each time with batches of red points disappearing, and blue points decreasing as well, but He Jie showed no emotional fluctuations.

When standing on the command platform, everyone ceased to be comrades-in-arms and became mere chess pieces.

As a player, one should place the pieces in the right position.

As a general, one must position soldiers on the correct battlefield.

This was his duty!

One command after another was relayed through the large communication device to every node and every officer, and He Jie waved a hand to block out the small light points, gazing at the largest red flow.

That was the only red flow that wasn’t intercepted.

And directly opposite the red flow, there was just one blue light point, originally where he had prepared for himself.

Now it was Lian Jin.

”Relay my order: capture the watch station within five minutes, kill four Tier Two Evolvers, and face military tribunal if overdue!”

...

A multi-functional vehicle painted with twin towers gazed across the water.

The data observer put down the long-range telescope and said complexly, ”It’s really happening.”

Another person sighed, ”Never expected the armed train would go to guard the national gate at such a time.” Then with a hint of sarcasm, ”While the company usually speaks so righteously, but in reality, they are the culprits!”

The observer was startled, ”The top brass repeatedly emphasized that this was Haywood’s unauthorized action, unrelated to the company, do you want to die?”

The other sneered, ”Unrelated? They may fool others, but how many who’ve attended a class believe that? It seems a group of data collectors even defected because of this.”

The observer listened to the war across from He Shui and sighed, ”Indeed, it shouldn’t be...”

”Let’s go, report to the company, and portray the battle as brutal to give those bastards a hard blow to their thick skins!”

...

In Donghuang’s southeast, within a small faction.

The camp members gathered around several bonfires, eagerly watching the porridge-like concoction being boiled.

The camp leader reluctantly said to the young man with a standard-issue rifle before him, ”As you can see, we are survivors struggling to make ends meet. We don’t even have enough food, let alone medicine, and as for support... it’s pointless; people might not even make it before they’re gone...”

The young man was the young lieutenant from the border outpost. After crossing He Shui, he adhered to the old sergeant’s advice, diverting from the west towards the southwest, seeking medicine and aid along the way.

In the face of a massive Four Nations invasion, there’s no way three of them could hold out.

They must secure support, whether it be resources or manpower.

Unaware of the major companies’ presence, he could only relay the news of the Four Nations invasion to benevolent factions along the way.

The response was as expected.

This was not the first time he had been refused.

Coming this far, he had lost count of the number of rejections.

Upon leaving, the young man saw a group of children forced to huddle far from the campfire. Hesitating for a moment, he left what was left of his rations, two packs of military compressed biscuits, and continued to the next camp.

He didn’t know how the old sergeant and the others were doing and dared not to think.

But he knew he had to do something, even if it seemed in vain.

As long as one stood, he was convinced they could reclaim the outpost.
