Armed Train in the Apocalypse

The clear Mojiang water flows away without looking back.

Just like the Armed Train crossing the river, without any intention of defending its position.

Everyone held their breath, at the very least they had to fight at the border.

Standing on the second level of the command platform inside the train head, He Jie looked at the large bridge behind him and said coldly, ”Blow up the bridge!”

The drone hovered over He Shui, and with the command given, the decades-old cross-river bridge collapsed in a roar of explosions. To cross the river, it would now require traveling at least hundreds of kilometers away.

Inside the train, Lian Jin’s gaze was complicated, ”Now that we’ve blown it up, there’s no turning back.”

He Jie glanced at him and said indifferently, ”The train can swim.”

Lian Jin, ”... That was rash.”

According to Su Huan’s instructions before leaving, after finishing off the Four Nations Alliance’s scoundrels, He Jie was to lead the train north along He Shui to reunite.

So blowing up the bridge was part of the plan.

”There are four countries on the other side, no matter how weak they are, we can’t possibly hold them off, right?”

Lian Jin scratched his head.

He Jie sneered, ”This river stretches over fifteen hundred kilometers, and I have only eight hundred men. What can we use to defend it!”

”You mean using offense as defense?”

Lian Jin, after all, had led troops before, quickly understood his meaning.

Both of their gazes simultaneously fell on a spot on the virtual map.

He Jie pointed to a line of small mountains opposite the river, which immediately showed ”Cangling Mountains” in four small characters. Then the entire mountain range emitted a radiant glow, distinguishing it from the surrounding terrain.

The Cangling Mountains start from within Northern Alliance territory, paralleling He Shui, cutting diagonally through Four Countries Peninsula, ending in Korea, which is the border between Donghuang and the Four Nations.

To enter the Four Countries Peninsula from Donghuang, one has to detour from the mountain range’s endpoint.

Years ago, a tunnel was pierced through, but unless He Jie has something wrong in his head, he wouldn’t choose this time to dive into the tunnel.

Whether the tunnel can be traversed is another matter, but if someone explodes it while attempting, that would not be fun.

”Ding Hui’s previous outpost was here, as long as we take this place, regardless of their numbers, if the train stretches across, it’s Ghost Gate!”

Lian Jin’s gaze was heavy, ”I understand, but how do we pass through Ghost Gate now?”

He Jie wore a sinister smile, his fingers sliding across the Cangling Mountains, ”Climb over!”

...

As day alternated with night, the edge of He Shui welcomed a pack of wolves.

The heavy wolf paws silently stepped on the frozen ground, frost thickened around the Fearsome Wolf’s mouth, but the person riding it wore only a thin black shirt with no sense of coldness, their dark eyes assessed the surrounding buildings with interest.

The ground bore streaks like mop trails in muddy traces, striations adorned with the footprints of various Evolution Beasts, all recorded by the cold weather upon the land.

If there were a Trace Expert here, they could accurately determine how many creatures visited this small town.

But Su Huan could only discern that many aquatic animals had been here.

Just like Mojiang.

”Is that He Shui Town up ahead?”

Su Huan asked.

Liang Kuan jumped down from the tongue-sticking Fearsome Wolf, though similar in weight to Su Huan, he carried a shield, meaning he had to switch wolves more often.

”Yes, it’s right in the town ahead. Once you reach the end of the road, you’re there.”

Even calm and composed, Liang Kuan’s eyes carried a hint of urgency.

Su Huan raised his head, gazing toward the road’s end. As dawn broke, the red sun aligned with the road’s center beautifully, but he remained skeptical of Liang Kuan’s anticipation.

”Let’s go then.”

Jumping off the tall wolf, the train conductor casually walked into the town.

The Wolf King bowed its head, following respectfully behind.

The vehicles lining each side of the road were sparse, coated thickly in dust, sealed further with ice. Inside the cars were desiccated children, and the streets held few zombies, dull bones piled at the edges, some bearing fine tooth marks.

Traversing the small town felt like entering the deepest nightmare, each scene was a study in terror.

But to the two individuals, these were merely embellishments upon the city.

The Wolf King suddenly turned its head, its beast eyes stared sharply at the facade of a tobacco and liquor store.

A figure stood behind the glass door, wearing a hat and clothes, reddish-yellow beard jutting from beneath the hat brim, smiling with a breath fogging the glass, concealing a row of fine, sharp teeth.

Like a disproportionate puppet, the figure’s hand splayed upon the glass, oily eyes watched the Wolf King pass by with a hint of wariness.

”A Tier Two yellow-skinned beast.”

Su Huan glanced at it, contemplating taking its skin back upon return.

But he didn’t voice the thought.

Tier Two Evolution Beasts had become intelligent, akin to children, and could understand phrases like ”kill it” if spoken directly.

Because of the Tier Two wolf pack’s escort, the Evolution Beasts hiding in He Shui Town refrained from causing trouble. The two smoothly crossed most of the town, reaching a community center.

The community lacked fences, twelve six-story buildings arranged in neat rows along both sides of the street, surrounded by a half-finished abandoned building and intersecting roads, along with vast barren land.

The staircases were external, with a platform on the third floor, neither felt like climbing, simply jumping up.

This building was one of the few in the town hosting Life.

Liang Kuan extracted a key from a pocket inside his clothes, inserting it into the stairway door, twisting twice with no effect, his thick brows furrowing as he elbowed the solid Metal security door.
