Armed Train in the Apocalypse

With Xiaoba assisting, these troublesome shrapnel fragments were much easier to deal with. No matter how tiny the metal debris was, a wave of the hand would make it obediently come out.

Finally, from Lian Jin’s body, we extracted a full three pounds of various metal fragments and bullet heads.

That’s thanks to the superior defense of Tier Two ”Iron Fist”.

The remaining wounds were minor, so Lin Xia was summoned to apply a fierce flame, burning them to a crisp. It’s not that the treatment was particularly delicate, but at least the wounds healed.

After the surgery, and half an hour of battlefield cleanup, the casualty report quickly came out.

The Pan-Asian Alliance had over sixteen thousand casualties, with a margin of error of several hundred due to the unidentifiable bodies. The number of escapes was between four and five thousand.

Lian Jin’s five hundred troops suffered heavy losses; only four survived from the three hundred led by the deputy officer on a flanking maneuver, while over seventy persisted in battle on the frontline until the Armed Train entered the city.

The train lost four regular soldiers, including one Tier One, who was killed by an opponent’s expert in a last-ditch struggle. The biggest losses were in the outer entourage led by Wen Biao, totaling fourteen men.

He Jie was furious about these casualties, calling all the available officers for a harsh scolding, even Yu Yue wasn’t spared.

The berated crowd looked like frosted eggplants.

Lian Jin watched his subordinates being carried out one by one, and couldn’t help but curse.

His five hundred men, though temporarily pulled together, weren’t nobodies within Donghuang Heavy Industry’s system.

Within Donghuang Heavy Industry, the first echelon consisted of a Heavy Armor Brigade left by the military, Donghuang’s only known structured army. It adhered strictly to the principle of not being used for civil war within three years.

The second echelon was trained post-apocalypse, including troops and Evolvers, but there was still a significant tactical and mental gap compared to the Heavy Armor Brigade.

These five hundred were drawn from the Heavy Armor Brigade’s first echelon; otherwise, they couldn’t have followed him in defeating over four thousand minor troops. If not for the ambush here, this unit’s strength could have gradually wiped out thirty thousand.

If he hadn’t been too hasty in wanting to wipe out the enemy, his long-serving officer wouldn’t have died.

Disregarding high-tier combat power, the Armed Corps were only slightly more evolved than these five hundred. The reason for such a disparate casualty rate was mainly because of the train following behind!

If Lian Jin could tie Donghuang Heavy Industry’s base to his waist, he would fight even better than the train.

This was also what made He Jie angry.

With drones, fire support, and high-tier Evolver dominance, with these three elements, the corps shouldn’t have casualties!

Each soldier was cultured according to officer models, with resources invested even exceeding that for officers.

With continuous logistics support trains behind them, yet still losing four men, He Jie was infuriated.

In his view, Su Huan had entrusted the family foundation to him; He may not expand it greatly, but he must return it without loss, right?

Moreover, the real war is still ahead; if everyone has this mindset, casualties will naturally soar. How could he face Su Huan then?

Once everything was handled, the sun had already set below the horizon.

Night fell swiftly over the wilderness, without the dilution of urban light pollution, the ink-blue sky spread instantly, leaving only a dark red scab on the western horizon, like an unhealed wound of the earth.

He Jie exchanged information simply with Lian Jin, and both agreed it was crucial to reach the border before the Four Nations Alliance’s regular army arrived, and pin the battlefield at the border.

Even with Floating Land changes, most of Yuchuan Province was flat plains. Once the Four Nations Alliance’s massive army entered, armed with just the train and tens of thousands from Donghuang Heavy Industry, it would be hard to seal this gap.

Even in the ideal case of killing off the opposing main force, Yuchuan Province would still be left a chaotic mess. Furthermore, under the current special circumstances, Donghuang lacked the past absolute control over local areas, and if Four Nations forcibly dispersed hundreds of thousands here, it would take decades to clean up, during which they would become locals.

What’s the point of their efforts then, and the defense by Ding Hui and the others?

Neither of them wanted such a situation, or rather, no Donghuang People wanted to see it happen.

Donghuang’s land, even if left alone to grow wild, would not be ceded!

Without wasting time, the train set off overnight along the attack route of the Four Nations Alliance.

After traveling about thirty kilometers, the train slowed down.

Ahead was a small camp located in a mountain dent, utilizing remnants of pre-apocalypse buildings, possibly a derelict forest station or road maintenance point. Rough planks, rusted iron sheets, and broken concrete blocks were haphazardly pieced together, forming a rudimentary residential area. Tilted chevaux de frise, skewed watchtower frames, and a hastily dug, unfinished trench were visible on the outskirts.

But at this moment, the camp was deathly silent, zombies wandered among the ruins, emitting meaningless groans that scattered in the nocturnal wind.

Not even having heard the rumbling of the train’s advance, the roaming perimeter patrol quickly cleared it out.

The process was swift, with brief and muffled gunfire.
