System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1517: Rui’s Unexpected Request

”How is your father?” Noel asked.

Elaine smiled. ”Thanks to you, he’s doing fine. He is getting involved in the house again, mainly to teach my brother to become a capable lord.”

”I see.” Noel nodded. ”That’s good then.”

”Yes.” Elaine recalled how happy both of them were. The lesson must be tough, but because of everything they had just experienced, both of them were excited and happy.

If she remained there, she would probably have a place, but it would also cause a lot of problems for the true successor, her brother.

So, staying with Noel was the correct thing. She just didn’t expect Noel to raise her rank to this extent.

”Should I waive the debt of your family?” Noel smirked.

”Master...” Elaine looked away. ”If you do that, it will be troublesome for me and for you. You should know that if you waive our debt just because of this, your integrity will take a hit.

”Besides, people will think they can do anything to you and be done with it as long as they become a part of your system.

”It’s not healthy. That’s why you ask me instead of making the decision yourself.

”At the same time, I don’t want to accept it. This debt is proof of our mistake, and only by legitimately atoning for it can I lift my head again. That’s why, please don’t do that.”

Noel chuckled. This was the reason he could entrust this position to Elaine.

”Anyway, there’s not much difference between what you are going to do as the Grand Advisor and the Pillar of Justice. Rose is the one mainly managing my work, so you can work together with Rose. There shouldn’t be much additional work.”

”I understand.”

”Ah, there’s one more thing. Your office will be moved to... Let’s see... either my office or the one next to mine. Ask Rose about it later.”

”I will.”

”Anyway, I’m going to meet Rui. Although some work has been done, you should finish the transfer of the land to our new nobles. Ah, never mind. Let’s talk with Rui first since I need to know whether she will accept the position or not.”

”Yes, sir.” Elaine followed behind Noel as they went to another room to meet Rui.

”My lord.” Rui nodded as she rose from her seat.

”Sorry for making you wait. Have you thought about my offer?”

The biggest offer was to accept the same position as Incetta. At the same time, it would provide her with an opportunity to work together with the Beast Kingdom. This way, she could ask the Diva to bring her back to that island.

She knew the direction, and the Diva should have the method to travel there. If necessary, Noel would also offer his help.

This was his promise after all. Rui followed Noel so that her brother could receive the full support to become the head of the family.

However, Rui had seen another path, which Noel had never considered before because he was too focused on fulfilling his part of the agreement.

Rui’s expression turned solemn before stating, ”I’m sorry, my lord. I wish to reject both of your offers.”

”!!!” Noel widened his eyes in surprise. ”Are you sure?”

”I’m sure. I don’t need a title or a monetary reward.”

”Hmm...” Noel crossed his arms. ”Do you have any wishes then? You have done a great job, so you have to be rewarded.”

What Noel didn’t expect was that Rui was actually much more ambitious than he originally thought.

Rui asked, ”I wish to be your right hand, my lord.”

”!!!” Noel widened his eyes before turning to Elaine. ”Are you jealous or something?”

Rui shook her head calmly. ”No. After seeing your power as well as this land, I can’t help but understand why my ancestor dedicated his life to your ancestor.

”I wish to pursue the same path. I want to follow you.

”When this idea comes up in my mind, I have learned about your right hand, Mr. Dimitri. He is also one of the twelve pillars of the Ardagan family.

”Although I am not the family head of the Ui family, I was groomed to be the head before my brother showed her talent before. So, I believe I have the capability to be your right hand.”

When he thought about it, Rui might indeed have that ability. He had been using Rui as his sword this whole time, but that was only a part of her power.

In addition, Dimitri was already a middle-aged man. Rui was at least 15 years younger than him. Her combat prowess was higher than Dimitri’s.

Originally, Sandra would have taken Dimitri’s position, but because Tristan became a noble, Sandra followed Tristan instead of Noel. In other words, Dimitri’s successor was gone.

Rui might be able to fill that spot.

”What about your home?” Noel was just worried he couldn’t fulfill that promise if she became a pillar. After all, it would be hard to replace a pillar.

Rui smiled. ”I’m grateful to you for thinking about me. However, isn’t this a simple problem? I wish to follow you, my lord. In the future, traveling back and forth shouldn’t be a problem.”

”Ah!” Noel didn’t consider this. On their expedition, it took a long time for the trip. It was also a dangerous trip.

However, if Noel could win against the demon kings or Rui could get stronger or at least find her king path, she would have no problem in returning to the island and coming back here. She could do it from time to time during her vacation.

This way, even if she got stronger, her position wouldn’t threaten her brother as well. She would still maintain her relationship with her family. This was the same as killing two birds with one stone.

In addition, Noel truly wanted Dimitri to lead a fulfilling life. And that life might not be with him but with Milfa.

Noel pondered for two minutes. ”Still, replacing his position is easier said than done. How about this?

”I will let you work in that division for the time being. Once Dimitri returns and deems you to have the ability to replace him, I will give you that position.”

Rui also understood how hard it was to replace Dimitri. Dimitri was Noel’s representative.

On the other hand, her achievement was still unknown, unlike Elaine’s.

Hence, Rui dropped to one knee. ”Just like my ancestor, I wish to dedicate my life to you and the Ardagan family. In the name of Ihui Makaveli and the honor of the Martial God, I, Rui, pledge my loyalty to you, my master, Noel Ardagan.”
