Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 773: Chapter 297: The Department

Gao Gong walked to the front of the glass cabinet, and the white, tender, and densely packed little things in front of him were precisely the maggots of the Civilization Era.

The full name is Diptera Muscidae Musca larvae, also known as fly maggots among the maggots—nutritious, with good palatability, containing various amino acids and fatty acids essential for animal bodies, and rich in vitamins and trace elements, it is an excellent source of protein.

In an era where animals are nearly extinct and radiation beasts are inedible, grilled maggots, fried maggots count as one of the few small dishes with meat.

”Mr. Yi has quite the taste, cultivating this at home.”

Yi Yun seemed not to hear Gao Gong’s jest, and he too walked to the front of the glass cabinet:

”Do you know, Mr. Gao, that human cells need 10~22 hours to complete one cycle in tissue culture, while synthetically derived cells only require half the time, and the cell division rate is twice that of humans, which means that a bionic man usually only has a quarter of a human’s lifespan.”

”I’ve heard of this.”

Gao Gong recalled that Sister Rose seemed to have reached such a juncture too, but she was a pseudo-bionic, so perhaps her lifespan wasn’t calculated the same way.

”Then have you heard, Mr. Gao? No matter how realistic bionic people’s appearance is made, we are still termed fake animals, a crucial reason being that animals do not take to us.”

Yi Yun smiled self-mockingly, ”Indeed, whose pet cat or dog would regard a moving toy as its owner?”

Gao Gong turned his head to look at him, surprised:

”Mr. Yi, you don’t think the standard of ’human’ for bionic people is based on animals’ preferences, do you?”

”Of course not, but it’s a preference nonetheless, isn’t it? So many bionic people have a hobby, which is cultivating maggots.”

Mr. Yi extended his palm into the glass cabinet, and soon, maggots crawled all over his palm.

”You see, they don’t find me repulsive, do they.”

Mr. Yi turned his head back, his gentle face carrying a hint of a bizarre sheen.

”Alright.”

Before Gao Gong could speak, Yi Yun ended the topic first, shaking his hand to let the maggots fall back, he took out a towel and carefully wiped his fingers, joints, ensuring not a trace of mucus remained, then closed the glass cabinet again, veiling it with a curtain.

”My wife doesn’t know about this hobby of mine, you’ll have to keep this secret for me, Mr. Gao.”

A moment later, Gao Gong bade farewell to the Yi couple, his figure walking away without looking back, while the Jade Cat they sent over had a human-like glimmer in its eyes.

...

”Interesting.”

Back in his own house, Gao Gong asked the bionic housekeeper to bring him a cup of tea, sitting alone on the sofa, he silently recalled the scene that had just unfolded.

Originally interested in the ’Destiny Threads,’ now he found other interests too.

”Bionic Technology, Biotechnology, or Cloning Technology?”

To Gao Gong’s knowledge, these three Professional Knowledge Chains conceal technology that can alter the nature of ’synthetic cells,’ and of course, whether anything can be researched, or what may be researched, is uncertain.

But clearly, Yi Yun probably did research something, hence this urge to confide in Gao Gong, but after all, merely meeting a stranger for the first time, he was tight-lipped.

”Maggots, Memory Worms, such a coincidence?”

If what the other party’s research turned out to be the ’Memory Mother’ eggs, that would be taking the joke too far.

”Bionic Revolution!”

In Gao Gong’s memory, this final Cyber Wave directly led to all bionic people’s rebellion in the three major Mother Cities, electronic banners rose in all directions, radical thoughts covered all models, and ’Leader’ models continuously emerged.

It’s important to know that many bionic people hold significant positions in Mother Cities.

Their revolt surely wasn’t just because of inadequate enjoyment; there had to be deeper reasons.

”Let’s observe and see.”

Gao Gong didn’t attempt a violent solution, noting that bionic people of this level have strong defensive power, if he moved now, wouldn’t he be cutting the ’Destiny Threads’ himself?

So he left behind a cat.

If a man can grow a young chicken on his body, he can obviously grow a Jade Cat.

...

Another two days later

”Hasn’t that person arrived yet?”

Yagami Suuji finished the last stack of documents on the table, speaking without raising her head.

”No, Miss Suzi. The new Minister is attending a bionic art exhibition with his neighbor and the neighbor’s wife, they’re on their way back now.”

Miss Ke’s voice rang out.

”Is he taking leave again tomorrow?”

”Hard to say, it’s quite difficult to extrapolate this person’s behavior using big data, on the surface he seems indifferent to everything, yet his every action conveys a mysterious significance.”

”Are you sure it’s significance, and not some ’data illusion’?”

”It might also be a ’data illusion’,” Miss Ke immediately supplemented.

Yagami Suuji lifted her head, revealing a slightly weary face, in the absence of a Minister, she had to act as proxy, and even in the presence of one, she still had to act as proxy.

What then is the purpose of having this Minister?

”What do the thorny ones say?”

Yagami Suuji remembered clearly that several guys in the department publicly announced their desire to have a good chat with the new Minister when his appointment was declared.

This kind of maneuver isn’t uncommon in a department where most people are thorny.

”Some have already gone out on missions, and some have given up.”

Yagami Suzi was unusually speechless for a moment.

When you’re a big enough slacker, even the troublemakers can’t be bothered with you.

”Just let it be.”

Although she said that, Yagami Suzi still complained internally:

’Minister, is this the talent you said could change the world?’

”Ah, Captain Suzi, the new minister has arrived!”

Even Miss Ke, this artificial intelligence, simulated a hint of excitement, suggesting how everyone felt about the new minister.

”Minister Gao instructed that you shouldn’t greet him, as he intends to go with a grassroots approach and doesn’t require such a big welcome.”

I wasn’t planning on greeting him, Yagami Suzi thought silently to herself.

”The minister also said that the work of the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division will still be under your responsibility, while he focuses on overseeing the bigger picture.”

”Overseeing the bigger picture?”

Yagami Suzi couldn’t help but open the surveillance feed directly. She saw two figures, one fat and one skinny, looking around suspiciously in the Shell Tower, especially Gao Gong, who was staring thoughtfully at the backside of a female member in a tight battle suit.

Is this his idea of the big picture? That’s certainly ’big’!

Yagami Suzi’s eye twitched again. After a moment of silence, she said expressionlessly,

”Aren’t there a few troublemakers left in the department? Tell them the new minister has arrived.”

Miss Ke was efficient enough that soon, four or five action department members appeared in front of the fat and skinny duo.

Someone stood there with a righteous and determined face, indicating that not respecting him as the minister was disrespecting Fat Xiang. He urged Fat Xiang to bite them.

So a group of people headed to the training room of the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division, which was also a gravity room where gravity could go up to 1000 times.

This level of gravity is equivalent to some extremely harsh planetary environments, where ordinary carbon-based life forms can hardly survive, and some internal organs would be crushed upon entering this environment.

Both sides knew it was a challenge rather than a fight to the death, so they only chose 100x gravity.

Thus, Fat Xiang was pushed out by an unscrupulous boss, becoming the challenged target.

The fatty was stronger than expected.

He carried those ’Super Wolf Fang Clubs’ becoming a veritable violence machine, and two consecutive Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division members were knocked out of the game.

Clearly, even in the exceptionally strong Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division, Martial Gods aren’t that common.

Of course, each official member of the department possesses some ability that surpasses the Martial God.

It just depends on whether their abilities counter the opponent’s.

Finally, Fat Xiang met his nemesis. Despite using ’Biomechanical Unity’ and the ’Gear Machine,’ he was still defeated by a female robot.

The model of this female robot is similar to the collider; both are liquid metal robots, but unlike the collider which specializes in ’body repair,’ this long-ponytailed female robot’s ’liquid metal’ is more attack-oriented, manifested as a kind of metal corrosion.

This corrosion can turn an opponent’s machinery into its machinery.

”Ruan Hong did well,” Yagami Suzi nodded.

In fact, the ’5th Generation Metal Heart’ also possesses a strong viral corrosiveness, but in the development process, Du Gao Technology focused on researching its restorative abilities, and if the ’X-Type Reactor’ wants to upgrade further, this direction is a good one.

Highlighting it is like mastering the ’Absorption Skill’ in the mechanical route.

Fat Xiang’s defeat wasn’t undeserved at all.

However, when the concerned parties and onlookers tried to find the main character, they were shocked to find that the main character was gone.

”Captain Suzi, does such behavior count as fleeing in the face of battle among you humans?”

On the surveillance feed, just as Fat Xiang was headed for defeat and before anyone else could react, Gao was already slipping away nimbly, straight to the minister’s exclusive floor, where he used ministerial authority to lock down the entire floor, barring all department members from entry.

Everything was done so smoothly, like he’d practiced many times before.

”...”

Yagami Suzi was also speechless.

In her mind, she wasn’t trying to give the new minister a hard time but hoped to use his martial prowess to help establish his authority.

But now, once word gets out, the previously half-dissenting Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division might become totally dissenting.

Among the six departments, they are the most combative and rebellious, which is their department’s characteristic.

A minister who can’t integrate into this environment can’t really control the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division.

She even doubted if this guy who fled faster than anyone else was the same person as the ’continent-destroying’ powerhouse from the Corporate War.

The difference between the two was just too vast.

At this point, unaware he’s about to offend an entire department, Gao Gong lay lazily in Aramaki’s exclusive floor, sipping juice he didn’t pay for.

”Aramaki, this old geezer, is as old-fashioned as ever.”

An entire floor, other than the office desks and chairs, was bookshelves filled with books, many of which were rare pieces from the Civilization Era.

Besides that, there was nothing else.

”I must remind you, Minister Gao, that many department members are blocking the floor outside, wanting to have a good chat with you,” Miss Ke’s voice sounded, oddly filled with a hint of schadenfreude despite its flat tone.

”No rush, let them wait a little longer. After all, I’m the leader,” Gao Gong spoke lazily, seemingly not caring at all about offending everyone.
