Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

”Sit.” Lu Li pointed to the high-tech chair beside him and said, ”You can manage the super base for me and discuss with the super AI assistant Nuwa on how to develop the technology.”

Shen Xia’s eyes lit up and she said, ”You mean I can focus on researching the advanced technology here?”

Lu Li replied, ”To be precise, it’s about researching more advanced technology with Nuwa.”

As Shen Xia sat down, she said without hesitation, ”I’m willing. From now on, you’re my boss.”

Lu Li said, ”Alright, we’ll talk about your salary later.”

Shen Xia tilted her head slightly and said, ”The end of the world is coming, does salary even matter?”

Lu Li laughed, ”Don’t think I don’t know those people sent you to persuade me to save the world.”

Shen Xia showed a look of being caught.

She admitted frankly, ”Some bigwigs knew we were on good terms and called my phone, asking me to persuade you.”

Lu Li asked back, ”Do you think I should or shouldn’t step in to save the world?”

Shen Xia didn’t answer immediately but thought about it for a while.

Then, she answered very seriously, ”From my personal perspective, I’d love for you to save the world, but as a friend, I think I should support you. So, my personal answer is to do what your heart says, no need to tell me the final answer.”

Lu Li looked into her clear eyes and sensed that she truly felt that way.

This made him feel touched; no one understood his heart like Shen Xia did.

Even his parents, who were also sent to persuade him today, expressed they wanted him to save the world.

Lu Li was already planning to absorb the energy of the gamma-ray burst, which would indeed save the world, so he told his parents the final decision to put them at ease.

Although his parents said they’d support him no matter what, they didn’t ”understand” him as purely as Shen Xia did.

Lu Li nodded slightly, ”I understand.”

Shen Xia said, ”Hmm,” playfully, ”Since I’ve tried to persuade you, how should I respond to those who sent me?”

Lu Li’s lips curled up slightly, ”If you don’t go back, you don’t have to respond to them, right?”

Upon hearing this, Shen Xia immediately understood and said with a smile, ”You’re so bad.”

Lu Li and Shen Xia chatted without any reservations, like confidants.

He joked easily, ”Isn’t it a universal truth that women love bad boys?”

Shen Xia was about to say something.

Suddenly, Lu Li looked towards the sky.

Shen Xia noticed keenly and followed Lu Li’s gaze.

Unfortunately, there was nothing in the sky but blue skies and white clouds.

Lu Li suddenly stood up and said, ”Stay here, don’t move, I need to check the cosmic space.”

Shen Xia wanted to ask if the gamma-ray burst had arrived early.

But she knew that Lu Li must have sensed an emergency and time was of the essence.

So, Shen Xia understood, ”Alright, go check it out, I’ll wait for you here.”

Lu Li nodded, ”Okay.”

As soon as he finished speaking, his body suddenly shattered into infinite particles invisible to the naked eye and dissipated in front of Shen Xia.

...

In cosmic space.

Lu Li reformed into human shape, floating in space, and looked ahead.

He had sensed something like a probe millions of kilometers away.

It’s not unusual for probes to be in space; after all, Earth has launched many.

What was strange was Lu Li’s ”omniscient perspective” saw that the ”text,” or ”symbols,” on this probe belonged to no known language on Earth.

Moreover, the probe flew at an alarming speed of thirty thousand kilometers per second.

This clearly wasn’t technology from Earth.

Currently, the fastest spacecraft Earth has made is the Parker Solar Probe, with a speed of over 200 kilometers per second.

Yet, even the human-made fastest spacecraft, Parker, is dwarfed by this probe Lu Li discovered.

Therefore, Lu Li understood that a probe flying at thirty thousand kilometers per second couldn’t have been made with human current technology.

He suspected it was an alien spacecraft.

”According to its trajectory, it will reach Earth’s position in thirty-three seconds.”

Lu Li floated there, frowning and thinking, ”I sensed via ’future foresight’ that the gamma-ray burst will arrive tomorrow, and now there’s a possible alien space probe appearing. Does this prove my previous theory that the gamma-ray burst might be man-made?”

He moved with a thought, his body darting towards Venus.

In less than a second.

Lu Li appeared beside a probe about the size of a small car.

Without hesitation, he used energy to envelop it, stopping it from moving towards Earth.

After taking control of the cylindrical probe, Lu Li immediately scanned its internal structure.

Soon, he understood this probe’s structure thoroughly.

This probe used a full nuclear fusion device for energy, and it was very compact.

The materials were complex, a composite like carbon fiber but incorporating various metal alloys.

The most astonishing feature was its nuclear-powered engine, which was extremely advanced.

At least, Lu Li believed that at humanity’s current technological development, such a sophisticated nuclear-powered engine might still be a thousand years out of reach.

”No doubt, it’s an alien probe.”

Lu Li didn’t destroy the probe.

After checking its structure, he allowed it to ”depart” again.

He intended to see whether this probe was headed to Earth and what it would do next.

After waiting a while,

In Lu Li’s view, as the probe neared Earth, it inexplicably turned back.

Lu Li was taken aback, ”Wasn’t it heading towards Earth?”

This puzzled him, prompting a decision to track where the probe was going.

After about an hour and twenty minutes of tracking,

Lu Li followed the probe to the Sun.

The next moment, the probe circled the Sun, seemingly detecting something!

...

On Earth, online,

Billions of netizens had been pleading online for one or two hours, but Lu Li’s social accounts remained silent.

This deepened the despair among countless netizens.

”It’s been two hours, yet no response from the Ancestral Gods.”

”Could it be that the Ancestral Gods really plan to watch us humans go extinct?”

”Boohoo, I don’t want to die, Ancestral Gods, please agree to save the world.”

”Sigh, stop pleading, the Ancestral Gods never go back on their word. In Mexico, they said they’d destroy the Jalisco Group, and they did. Later, they vowed to eliminate the Morgan Clan at a specified time and did so. Now they’ve said they would enjoy watching us perish in a gamma-ray burst, so it seems we truly are doomed!”

Similar statements proliferated across the global internet.

Initially, people held onto a sliver of hope, praying online for Lu Li to save the world.

Yet, as these pleas went unanswered, citizens of various nations grew more desperate, vaguely realizing that Lu Li might truly not want to save the world this time.

Humanity... is really about to face extinction!

At this thought, the hearts of eight billion people worldwide plunged into despair. Though the apocalypse hadn’t arrived, they all felt as though they were falling into an endless abyss, heading towards the embrace of death!
