Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Inside the super base.

Lu Li was sitting in the core control room, having a conversation.

On the other end of the call was George, ”Esteemed and great Mr. Lu, good morning.”

Hearing this, Lu Li chuckled silently, ”George, it’s not just today that you realized I have superpowers, so why didn’t you use respectful and grand titles for me before?”

Well, although he asked that, he actually knew the specific reason.

Previously, even though he showed overwhelming strength, unmatchable by the world, he had no interest-related ties with Old Ugly. Even if George feared his power, there wasn’t genuine respect from his heart.

Now it’s different. The gamma-ray burst is coming in a day, and the lives of eight billion people worldwide are in peril. George is one of them and naturally hopes that he can save the world, hence using ”esteemed” and ”great” titles.

To a large extent, George is trying to flatter him, not out of genuine respect.

Lu Li was well aware of this.

George said ingratiatingly, ”In my heart, I’ve always regarded you as if you were a deity, so when I have the fortune to take your call, I must pay you my highest regards.”

Lu Li smiled, shaking his head, ”We in Huaxia have an old saying: don’t visit the Three Treasures Hall for no reason. I suppose you wouldn’t call without a reason. What’s up, let’s hear it.”

George dared not be vague with Lu Li and quickly stated his purpose, ”When we visited your super base last time, you mentioned you would deal with the gamma-ray burst. Now there’s only a day left until its arrival. Will you make a move?”

Lu Li leaned back in his chair, gazing out at the blue sky and white clouds, ”I did say that. So, logically, when the gamma-ray burst arrives tomorrow, I should take action.”

George was overjoyed, quickly saying, ”Thank you, Mr. Lu, thank you...”

Lu Li interrupted bluntly, ”But I also said later, I’m quite happy to see humankind become extinct.”

George: ”...”

Lu Li had the ”omniscient perspective.”

He could naturally see George across the ocean turning red in the face.

He couldn’t help but feel secretly amused, thinking, ”Let you, old boy, play vague with me, buddy will tease you for fun.”

That’s right, he was teasing George.

George didn’t know, and after holding back for a moment, he made a pitiful sound, ”Mr. Lu, please, save Earth, or else the eight billion humans will really face extinction.”

Lu Li yawned and said, ”Why should I save humanity? Anyway, I can surely protect my family and friends, just like there are so many poor countries in the world, and Old Ugly is so rich—why haven’t you gone to save those poor countries?”

George was rendered speechless, momentarily unsure how to respond.

Lu Li was too lazy to waste words with the other party, ”Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now. Goodbye.”

”Wait! Wait!” George hurriedly shouted, ”Mr. Lu, Mr. Lu, slow down on hanging up.”

Lu Li said, ”What else is there?”

George said very sincerely, ”I believe you do have feelings for Earth. The reason you previously said you were unwilling to save the world was because of a small group of reckless provocateurs. These people indeed deserved to perish, and we’ve dealt with them for you. However, the rest of the planet’s eight billion people have not offended you, have they? Can’t you really save us, the innocent? Right now, all eight billion people worldwide are praying that you will save the world. I believe, if you do take action, you will be adored and appreciated by the whole world.”

Lu Li said expressionlessly, ”I do have feelings for Earth. As for whether the eight billion people worldwide will adore or appreciate me, to be honest, it doesn’t matter at all.”

George, being the top figure of Old Ugly and in his seventies or eighties, naturally wasn’t an ordinary shrewd person.

He keenly noticed the hidden meaning in Lu Li’s words, his heart immediately filled with joy, and he quickly asked, ”So... are you willing to save the world?”

Lu Li didn’t give a definitive answer, ”We’ll see, I’ll decide based on my mood at the time.”

After saying that, he hung up the phone with a click and then casually tossed the phone onto the control console in front of him.

Regarding what George said about the eight billion people worldwide, all begging him to save the world—Lu Li had actually sensed it long ago.

To be honest, he very much wanted to come forward and say ”I will save the world,” and then be idolized like a big hero by the masses.

However, Lu Li didn’t do so.

It wasn’t that he didn’t have the confidence to save the world.

But rather, he felt it wasn’t necessary.

After chatting with Gu Wei for a while, Lu Li gradually understood some things, or so to say, clarified his thoughts.

He was fundamentally different from the masses, seeking different things.

Dynasties rise and fall; this is an eternal law of nature.

According to scientific projections, the Cosmos also has a day when its lifespan ends, yet he might be eternally undying.

In that case, does it matter whether the masses adore or appreciate, or resent him?

Lu Li felt it didn’t matter at all; the reason he wanted to respond vehemently was merely a remaining trace of human nature.

As he was lost in thought, the sound of the doorbell rang from behind.

Without turning his head, Lu Li said, ”Shen Xia, come in.”

The metal door slid open sideways.

Shen Xia, wearing a floral dress, walked in.

She was looking around in awe and exclaimed, ”Lu Li, your super base is simply astonishing.”

Lu Li turned to look at her, smiling, ”Are you interested in ’working’ for me then?”

Shen Xia stepped forward, blinking, ”What do you want me to do?”
