Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 1038: Chapter 488: A Bit of Truth, a Bit of Lies (First Update)

Lawrence Winters scoffed and couldn’t help but laugh, ”Mr. Zhuge, although our country’s stipulation that ’spirits cannot appear after the founding of the nation’ doesn’t apply to your country, I think the basic principles are still the same.”

”I don’t think Miss Tang is a demon.”

She sighed, ”Actually, I think what Mrs. Fang encountered can be easily explained. It’s not some kind of spirit or demon at all.”

”How do you explain it?” Mr. Zhuge sneered slightly, ”It seems you, Lawrence, have seen a lot. I’m eager to hear the details.”

Lawrence Winters shook the bottle of mineral water in her hand and said calmly, ”Either that private investigator fooled Mrs. Fang, or Mrs. Fang is fooling us.”

Mrs. Fang’s eyes widened, ”Great Heavenly Master Lawrence, what do you mean by this?! Why would I fool you?! Why would the private investigator fool me?! I had a contract with him and paid him a high fee!”

Lawrence Winters put down the mineral water bottle and spread her hands, ”First, let’s eliminate the supernatural elements. It’s not that I don’t believe in them; of course I do. I’m a member of the Celestial Path Sect, born to expel demons and uphold the way.”

”But that doesn’t mean we can blame any contradictory thing we encounter in life on the supernatural. That’s too irresponsible and brain-dead. Only people with insufficient intelligence do that.”

Mr. Zhuge and Mrs. Fang, branded with ”insufficient intelligence,” felt they were being implicitly criticized.

They looked at Lawrence Winters with heavy eyes, their expressions seeming to say: ”Let’s see just how smart you actually are...”

Lawrence Winters shrugged, ”Don’t look at me like that; I’m going to say it anyway.”

”One possibility is that the private investigator enjoyed double the benefits. He might have also taken a job from Miss Tang, so he colluded with her to scare you.”

Mrs. Fang furrowed her brows and thought for a while before saying hesitantly, ”But he was indeed live-streaming with me; I saw it with my own eyes on my phone.”

”You think live-stream videos can’t be faked? If he colluded with Miss Tang, he could have recorded a video of Miss Tang shopping and then played it to you as a livestream, while Miss Tang herself stayed in the neighborhood, suddenly appearing in front of you when you were happily watching, not only scaring you but also flaunting herself to psychologically defeat you. Do you think that’s possible?”

Mrs. Fang’s furrowed brows suddenly relaxed as she angrily cursed, ”Yes! That’s definitely possible! Danny, that scoundrel, took my money and still worked for someone else. What a despicable person!”

Lawrence Winters pondered, realizing that this ”Danny” is probably the private investigator hired by Mrs. Fang.

However, Lawrence Winters changed tack and said, ”The second possibility is that Miss Tang didn’t actually appear on your lawn at all, and you are lying to deceive us.”

”So according to my guess, what you described doesn’t prove any special characteristic of Miss Tang. I think she is just an ordinary person.”

Mrs. Fang: ”...”

Mr. Zhuge chuckled once and said to Lawrence Winters: ”Lawrence, isn’t that going too far? If Mrs. Fang wanted to deceive us, why would she commission us? Isn’t it when she has nowhere else to turn, completely exhausted of all options, that she’d think of coming to us in the Celestial Path Sect for a solution? Right, Mrs. Fang?”

Mrs. Fang quickly nodded, looking aggrieved, ”I’m really not lying, I can swear!”

Lawrence Winters shook her head, ”Well, don’t swear. People’s words are the least trustworthy. Do you have any third-party evidence proving that Miss Tang was standing on your lawn at the time? Maybe a neighbor saw her? Or did you take any photos? Oh, by the way, do you have security cameras at your house? If you do, we can check the footage and see if Miss Tang was on the lawn at that time.”

Mrs. Fang gave a bitter smile, ”Our surveillance only keeps footage for one month, and that incident was a year ago. It’s long gone from the cameras.”

”See, that’s what I mean. Without third-party proof, your words can only be taken as reference, not fact.” Lawrence Winters also looked out the window, ”What about the neighbors?”

From her angle, Lawrence Winters could see a forest opposite Mrs. Fang’s large house, with no direct-door neighbors.

The neighbors on both sides were far apart, and each front and backyard was planted with greenery to block the view, so they couldn’t see each other’s lawns at all.

So probably no neighbors saw anything either.

Lawrence Winters concluded, ”This matter doesn’t prove Miss Tang’s ’non-human’ attributes; do you have anything else to say?”
