Lawrence Winters: ”...”

She turned around and saw that her suitcase had indeed left a scratch on the floor.

And the flooring was indeed quite expensive, if she goes upstairs, the stairs might get scratched even more.

But hearing Kenneth Osborne say this felt rather awkward.

Who was he to her anyway?

Why should she listen to whatever he says?

Lawrence Winters’ rebellious streak kicked in, she walked over to the door painted with Cupid, found the switch to open the elevator door, put her suitcase inside, then turned and walked up the stairs.

Although Kenneth Osborne’s gaze was fixed on the code he was typing on his laptop, the corner of his eye was still observing Lawrence Winters’ actions.

He noticed she did not heed his advice and instead walked towards the stairs, lifting his eyes in surprise.

But Lawrence Winters did not drag her suitcase; she only carried her small backpack and held on to the stair railings as she went upstairs.

Kenneth Osborne couldn’t help but ask, ”Nora, where’s your suitcase?”

”It’s in the elevator,” Lawrence Winters replied without turning her head, ”Weren’t you worried about damaging the wooden floors? I thought you meant the suitcase, so I put it in the elevator to let it go up itself.”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

He glanced at the elevator doors painted with Cupid, just in time to see them slowly closing, with Lawrence Winters’ familiar suitcase prominently in the center.

Kenneth Osborne twitched his mouth, planning to finish the program he was writing before helping Lawrence Winters carry it.

It wasn’t long before the elevator began to rise on its own, soon reaching the second floor.

Kenneth Osborne once again: ”...”

This was indeed bizarre.

On their very first day here, had they encountered a ”strange event”?

If such incidents occurred at Mr. Yu and Mrs. Fang’s house, or Miss Tang’s place, Kenneth Osborne wouldn’t find it peculiar as he was mentally prepared for it.

But Quentin Parker’s house was entirely beyond his expectations.

Has the elevator become AI too?

Kenneth Osborne put away his laptop, placed it in his computer bag, and walked briskly towards the stairs.

He quickly reached the second floor, coming around the corner of the stairs, and saw Lawrence Winters pulling her suitcase out from the open elevator doors.

Kenneth Osborne asked puzzledly, ”...Is this elevator controlled by AI too?”

Lawrence Winters rolled her eyes, turned back and replied in a huff, ”Have you been writing artificial intelligence programs until you’re dull-witted? I pressed the elevator switch upstairs, it naturally rises on its own. When it arrived, I took out my suitcase. What’s wrong with that? Is this also ’underhanded’?”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

He chuckled, softly saying, ”Alright, I was the one who got confused, overthinking the simplest thing, Nora, you’re really clever.”

Now with no outsiders around, Kenneth Osborne was even more flattering in his speech.

Lawrence Winters wasn’t buying it, scoffed, pointed towards a room’s door and said, ”I’m staying in the south-facing guest room, where are you staying?”

Kenneth Osborne opened his mouth, wanting to say he would stay with her.

Lawrence Winters seemed to read his mind, shook her head and said, ”...Don’t even think about staying with me, I like having the room to myself and don’t want to squeeze onto one bed with anyone!”

”...Are you complaining our bed was too small before? When we return home, I’ll buy a bigger one...” Kenneth Osborne said with a sigh.

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

She pursed her lips.

This Kenneth Osborne is just full of smooth talk, she wondered when he would talk until his leg breaks.

She ignored him, carried her suitcase inside the south-facing guest room, and closed the door with a bang right in Kenneth Osborne’s face.

Kenneth Osborne wasn’t offended, rubbed his nose, and turned to enter the bedroom next to Lawrence Winters’.

Quentin Parker’s suite was very spacious, both south-facing guest rooms were as large as small two-bedroom apartments.

In addition to the bedrooms and bathrooms, they each came with their own small living room and terrace.

Kenneth Osborne opened the door to the terrace and went out, noticing Lawrence Winters also standing on the terrace next door.

Still being young, on a whim, he placed his hand on the railing between the two terraces, and with a single-handed push, jumped over.

Lawrence Winters folded her arms, gave him a sidelong glance, and said coolly, ”Mr. Osborne, you’ve got some nice wall-climbing skills, have you trained for this?”

”Who let Nora live next door to me? What else can I do but climb walls? Would Nora open the door for me?”

A few pots of roses sat in front of the terrace, blooming brightly under the sunlight, with petals seemingly moist with dew.

Kenneth Osborne reached out and picked a rose, offering it to Lawrence Winters, ”For you.”

Lawrence Winters rolled her eyes at him, ”...Mr. Osborne, these are Quentin’s flowers, don’t pick them randomly.”

Kenneth Osborne laughed and placed the flower on the terrace railing, standing shoulder to shoulder with Lawrence Winters, looking into the distance.
